  • Grain-to-grain stress interactions in an electrodeposited iron coating
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : Wiley. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 17:10, s. 1221-1226
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The distribution of residual stresses, in an iron electrolytic coating with the thickness of 1 mm, was discussed. It was found that the coating minimizes the influence of crystallographic texture and stress gradients. Scanning electron microscopy observations indicate that some cracks are produced in the direct current deposited layer. The results show that the grain size in the electrolytic coating observed by transmission electron microscopy is around 20 nm with an aspect ratio of 5:1

  • GPSDTN : Predictive velocity-enabled delay-tolerant networks for arctic research and sustainability
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Second International Conference on Internet Monitoring and Protection (ICIMP 2007). - Los Alamitos, Calif : IEEE Computer Society Press. - 9780769529110
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A Delay-Tolerant Network (DTN) is a necessity for communication nodes that may need to wait for long periods to form networks. The IETF Delay Tolerant Network Research Group is developing protocols to enable such networks for a broad variety of Earth and interplanetary applications. The Arctic would benefit from a predictive velocity-enabled version of DTN that would facilitate communications between sparse, ephemeral, often mobile and extremely power-limited nodes. We propose to augment DTN with power-aware, buffer-aware location- and time-based predictive routing for ad-hoc meshes to create networks that are inherently location and time (velocity) aware at the network level to support climate research, emergency services and rural education in the Arctic. On Earth, the primary source of location and universal time information for networks is the Global Positioning System (GPS). We refer to this Arctic velocity-enabled Delay-Tolerant Network protocol as "GPSDTN" accordingly. This paper describes our requirements analysis and general implementation strategy for GPSDTN to support Arctic research and sustainability efforts

  • Roto-translational Raman spectra of pairs of hydrogen molecules from first principles
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: J. Chem. Phys.. - : AIP Publishing. ; 130
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We calculate the collision-induced, roto-translational, polarized, and depolarized Raman spectra of pairs of H2 molecules. The Schrödinger equation of H2–H2 scattering in the presence of a weak radiation field is integrated in the close-coupled scheme. This permits the accounting for the anisotropy of the intermolecular potential energy surface and thereby it includes mixing of polarizability components. The static polarizability invariants, trace and anisotropy, of two interacting H2 molecules were obtained elsewhere [Li et al., J. Chem. Phys. 126, 214302 (2007)] from first principles. Here we report the associated spherical tensor components which, along with the potential surface, are input in the calculation of the supramolecular Raman spectra. Special attention is paid to the interferences in the wings of the rotational S0(0) and S0(1) lines of the H2 molecule. The calculated Raman pair spectra show reasonable consistency with existing measurements of the polarized and depolarized Raman spectra of pairs of H2 molecules.

  • Damage coupled thermo-mechanical model for rock failure process and applications
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: CHINESE JOURNAL OF THEORETICAL AND APPLIED MECHANICS. - 0459-1879. ; 38:4, s. 505-513
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on the heterogeneous characteristics of rock at mesoscopic level, the thermo-mechanical (TM) coupled behavior during the failure process of rock subjected to thermal stress is analyzed with elastic damage mechanics and thermo-elastic theory. A mesoscopic TM coupling model, implemented in rock fracture process analysis (RFPA), is proposed, which can be used to study the damage and failure process, as well as elastic stress for the coupled TM rock problem. With the numerical model, the damage and associated mechanical properties evolution of mesoscopic structure in rocks subjected to TM loading can be analyzed. Numerical simulation is carried out to investigate the stability of the rock pillar in a hard rock laboratory. The numerically obtained stress field, failure pattern of pillar rock and associated acoustic emission (AE) events all agree well with the in-situ data, which shows that the proposed model is reasonable and effective, and may provide guides for the experiment design and associated applications

  • Multiobjective Optimization for Integrated Tolerance Allocation and Fixture Layout Design in Multistation Assembly
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of manufacturing science and engineering. - : ASME International. - 1087-1357 .- 1528-8935. ; 130:4, s. 0445011-0445016
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cost and dimensional variation of products are significant attributes in multistation assembly processes. These attributes depend on product/process tolerances and fixture layouts. Typically, tolerance allocation and fixture layout design are conducted separately without considering potential interrelations. In this work, we use multiobjective optimization for integrated tolerance allocation and fixture layout design to address interactions and to quantify tradeoffs among cost, product variation, and assembly process sensitivity. A nested optimization strategy is applied to a vehicle side frame assembly. Results demonstrate the presence and quantification of tradeoffs, based on which we introduce the concept of critical variation and critical budget requirements
