    • The network architecture evolution journey will carry on in the years ahead, driving a large scale adoption of 5th Generation (5G) and 5G-Advanced use cases with significantly decreased deployment and operational costs, and enabling new and innovative use-case-driven solutions towards 6th Generation (6G) with higher economic and societal values. The goal of this chapter, thus, is to present the envisioned societal impact, use cases and the End-to-End (E2E) 6G architecture. The E2E 6G architecture includes summarization of the various technical enablers as well as the system and functional views of the architecture.

    • We present a compilation of reliable Precambrian paleomagnetic poles from three successive international workshops (in years 2009, 2014, 2017), comprising paleomagnetists specializing in Precambrian tectonic reconstructions. The working groups compiled lists of two global classes of poles, published through the end of 2017. “Grade-A” results are judged to provide essential constraints on tectonic reconstructions; “Grade-B” poles are judged to be suggestive of high-quality, but not yet demonstrated to be primary, or perhaps lacking precise geochronologic or other constraints. Our catalog documents a resurgence of high-quality data acquisition in recent years, and highlights specific cratons and time intervals that are most lacking in the data needed to reconstruct those blocks through supercontinental cycles.

    • A novel recovery-free interface-trap measurement method is presented in detail. This method is the modification of the conventional charge pumping (CP) by extending the pulse low-level to the stress-bias and minimizing the pulse high-level duty cycle to suppress the recovery effect. The method is applied to study the negative-bias temperature instability in p-MOSFETs. As compared with the conventional CP, a much larger interface-trap generation under stress is observed by the new method. A power law time dependence (~ tn) of interface-trap generation is observed. The index n is less than that derived from conventional CP and increases with temperature, demonstrating a dispersive process involved in the trap generation dynamics.

    • Chemically sensitive diagnostics are indispensable to unravel reactive processes in combustion and beyond, to understand their development in time and space and to monitor the reaction progress under the conditions of interest. A multitude of techniques is available that may provide species composition together with other process-controlling variables as a function of the reaction environment. Analytical tools have been developed that range from one-of-a-kind large-facility instrumentation to robust sensors for use in technical systems and in the field. In this chapter, needs and developments for the near and midterm future are addressed combining individual contributions from selected perspectives and intertwining thoughts and ideas from different fields and expertise. Major advances can be expected from combinations of instrumentation and digital processes, with beneficial uses for a multitude of processes in carbon-reduced and carbon-neutral environments.

    • Heparan sulfate (HS) proteoglycans (PGs) are ubiquitously expressed on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix of most animal tissues, having essential functions in development and homeostasis, as well as playing various roles in disease processes. The functions of HSPGs are mainly dependent on interactions between the HS-side chains with a variety of proteins including cytokines, growth factors, and their receptors. In a given HS polysaccharide, negatively charged sulfate and carboxylate groups are arranged in various types of domains, generated through strictly regulated biosynthetic reactions and with enormous potential for structural variability. The mode of HS-protein interactions is assessed through binding experiments using saccharides of defined composition in vitro, signaling assays in cell models where HS structures are manipulated, and targeted disruption of genes for biosynthetic enzymes in animals (mouse, zebrafish, Drosophila, and Caenorhabditis elegans) followed by phenotype analysis. Whereas some protein ligands appear to require strictly defined HS structure, others bind to variable saccharide domains without apparent dependence on distinct saccharide sequence. These findings raise intriguing questions concerning the functional significance of regulation in HS biosynthesis and the potential for development of therapeutics targeting HS-protein interactions.

    • Due to the past crises, the shipbuilding and offshore industry has realised that new innovative designs and design and production methods are necessary to decrease operational costs, production costs and emissions,while meeting the changing rules and regulations. This ISSC-V.3 report is discussing recent developmentin materials and fabrication technology applied to ship and offshore structures.Chapter 2 focuses on worldwide trends in materials and fabrication methods. Developments in metallicand non-metallic structural materials are dealt in Chapter 3. Advances in fabrication and joining technologiessuch as welding are increasing. Some main areas of applications and research in those areas aredescribed in Chapter 4. Innovative development about corrosion protection systems are presented inChapter 5 while Chapter 6 give an overview about the application of production simulation and virtualreality to improve the production management of ship and offshore structures.The ISSC-V.3 technical committee has performed a benchmark to define a Best Practice Guideline touse Computational Welding Mechanics tools (CWM) in shipbuilding and offshore industry. To achievethis objective various experimental welding tests have been performed in order to give a reference point.Both the residual welding distortions and residual stresses have been compared between numerical simulationsand welding experiments for a common “T” welded assembly used in the shipbuilding industry.However, it has been decided to publish the results of this study in a separate document. Nevertheless, Chapter 7 of this report presents the state of the art as well as the experimental test case that has been analysed.
