- Throughout its history, Operational Research has evolved to include methods, models and algorithms that have been applied to a wide range of contexts. This encyclopedic article consists of two main sections: methods and applications. The first summarises the up-to-date knowledge and provides an overview of the state-of-the-art methods and key developments in the various subdomains of the field. The second offers a wide-ranging list of areas where Operational Research has been applied. The article is meant to be read in a nonlinear fashion and used as a point of reference by a diverse pool of readers: academics, researchers, students, and practitioners. The entries within the methods and applications sections are presented in alphabetical order. The authors dedicate this paper to the 2023 Turkey/Syria earthquake victims. We sincerely hope that advances in OR will play a role towards minimising the pain and suffering caused by this and future catastrophes.

- Under the tide of world multi polarization and economic globalization, the internationalization of higher education has become the general trend. Implementing the ‘going out’ strategy and cultivating international logistics talents are the internal needs of Application-oriented Undergraduate Colleges and universities to adapt to the development trend of higher education, and also the internal needs of Application-oriented Undergraduate Colleges and universities to improve the level of running a school. At present, in terms of international logistics talent training, there are some problems in the undergraduate of application-oriented universities, such as the lack of international logistics talent training platform and funds, the lack of international teaching staff, and the imperfect teaching system of international logistics talent training. In view of these problems, this topic introduces the guiding ideology of the ‘the Belt and Road’ and builds an application-oriented undergraduate university, which can explore the cultivation of international logistics talents from the aspects of the construction of an international logistics talent training platform, giving full play to its own characteristics and advantages, improving the curriculum, teaching and evaluation system, and promoting the internationalization of professional construction, so as to continuously improve the cultivation level of international logistics talents.

Social mindfulness and prosociality vary across the globe

- Humans are social animals, but not everyone will be mindful of others to the same extent. Individual differences have been found, but would social mindfulness also be shaped by one's location in the world? Expecting cross-national differences to exist, we examined if and how social mindfulness differs across countries. At little to no material cost, social mindfulness typically entails small acts of attention or kindness. Even though fairly common, such low-cost cooperation has received little empirical attention. Measuring social mindfulness across 31 samples from industrialized countries and regions (n = 8,354), we found considerable variation. Among selected country-level variables, greater social mindfulness was most strongly associated with countries' better general performance on environmental protection. Together, our findings contribute to the literature on prosociality by targeting the kind of everyday cooperation that is more focused on communicating benevolence than on providing material benefits.

Combining with the characteristics of the development of the new retail industry, from the perspective of carbon emissions, we will focus on the analysis of carbon emission costs and the impact of adding businesses to enterprises, governments or the society. According to the scholar's decision on the location of distribution center, it mainly involves the construction cost of distribution center and the increase of carbon emission cost model for comparative analysis. By comparing the total cost of social, commercial and government, and provide a basis for positioning decisions.

- The 2015 Lancet Commission on Health and Climate Change has been formed to map out the impacts of climate change, and the necessary policy responses, in order to ensure the highest attainable standards of health for populations worldwide. This Commission is multidisciplinary and international in nature, with strong collaboration between academic centres in Europe and China. The central finding from the Commission's work is that tackling climate change could be the greatest global health opportunity of the 21st century. The key messages from the Commission are summarised below, accompanied by ten underlying recommendations to accelerate action in the next 5 years.
