  • Electric Field Diagnostics in the Jovian System : Brief Scientific Case and Instrumentation Overview
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 6th IAA International Conference on Low-Cost Planetary Missions. ; , s. 335-340
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Jovian plasma environment exhibits a variety of plasma flow interactions with magnetised as well as unmagnetised bodies, making it a good venue for furthering our understanding of solar wind - magnetosphere / ionosphere interactions. On an overall scale the solar wind interacts with the Jovian magnetosphere, much like at Earth but with vastly different temporal and spatial scales. Inside the Jovian magnetosphere the co-rotating plasma interacts with the inner moons. The latter interaction is slower and more stable than the corresponding interaction between the solar wind and the planets, and can thus provide additional information on the principles of the interaction mechanisms. Because of the wealth of expected low-frequency waves, as well as the predicted quasi-static electric fields and plasma drifts in the interaction regions between different parts of the Jovian system, a most valuable component in future payloads would be a double-probe electric field instrument. Recent developments in low-mass instrumentation facilitate electric field measurements on spinning planetary spacecraft, which we here exemplify.

  • lntegrated Optical Fiber Sensors in Additive Manufactured Metal Components for Smart Manufacturing Applications
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Smart Systems Integration; 13th International Conference and Exhibition on Integration Issues of Miniaturized Systems.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work combines fiber optic sensors with additive manufacturing to enable integration of temperature and strain sensors in metal components. In this paper, we present a fiber optic sensor network integrated in press hardening tools to monitor the contact between the tool and the metal sheet during forming operation. The tools are manufactured through metal powder bed fusion using laser melting processes (PBF-SLM), after which the tools are prepared for sensor integration. A demonstrator press hardening tool with integrated fiber optic sensors was heated using an electric heat foil and the sensor measurements was compared to a thermal simulation model. The sensor technology is based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs), integrated at several positions along the optical fiber. FBGs are in-fiber sensors that are multiplexed. lt is possible to place hundreds of FBG sensors along one single fiber, thus allowing for quasidistributed sensing of temperature or strain. The optical fiber itself can be less than 100 micrometer in diameter, allowing for sensing at several points in a minimally invasive way, when integrated in a tool or component.

  • Identifying the root causes of damage on the wheels of heavy haul wheel damage phenomena
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 10th International Heavy Haul Conference (IHHA 2013), February 4–6, New Dehli, India. ; , s. 520-526
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper illustrates how damage patterns, in particular in the form of rolling contact fatigue (RCF), can be employed to identify underlying operational conditions. In particular the focus is on RCF of wheel occurring at the Iron Ore line in north Sweden and Norway. The paper charts seasonal changes and damage patterns, and potential root causes are identified and investigated. Finally mitigating actions are proposed.

  • Networked aspects of lifelong work-integrated learning : the BUFFL case
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: The Thirteenth International Conference on Networked Learning (NLC2022).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The increasingly digitalised and continuously changing working life needs a continuous lifelong professional development that preferably is networked and work-integrated. This this study builds upon university teachers' and course participants’ experiences from a technology enhanced project called BUFFL A pilot project that combines truly work-integrated learning with lifelong learning, in a strive to address the contemporary need for continuous professional development. The important aim in the BUFFL project is to develop a model for collaborative, flexible, and lifelong professional development. A new and interesting concept in the BUFFL project was to involve concept of Bringing Your Own Data for activities in course modules. The aim of this study is to describe and discuss the lifelong work-integrated learning in the BUFFL project from a networked learning perspective. Data were gathered from e-mail interviews with teachers, e-mail conversations between teachers, facilitators and course participants, and from course evaluations. Results from the data sources have been grouped into three main themes in an inductive thematic analysis. Findings show that in academia, in industry, and in the in between a potential is found in the form of collaborative learning. A networked collaboration that should involve the theories from academia, combined with real-world-problems in the workplace, to achieve a fruitful meeting between academia and the industry.

  • The EFW data in the CAA
  • 2010
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Electric Field and Waves (EFW) instrument measures the 2D electric field (in the spacecraft spin plane) and spacecraft potential with sampling rates, on some occasions, up to 36,000 samples/s. We present a summary of the CAA data products produced from the EFW measurements. We briefly describe the production pipeline from the raw data to final data products and discuss the most common caveats.

  • How will they react if we make them talk? : Students’ experiences from learner-created video tasks in online university education in Sweden
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: ICICTE 2017 Proceedings. - Rhodes, Greece : ICICTE 2017. - 9780993288982 ; , s. 318-328, s. 318-328
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In focus in this paper are students’ views on their experiences of an educational design with oral assessment tasks supported by video technology in online university education in Sweden. Questions targeted how the students perceived the impact of oral tasks on their learning. The data were gathered through questionnaires, qualitative interviews and students’ self-reflection documents. Results indicate most students appreciated the oral assessments, and their descriptions of this learning experience indicate that the studied video-based task-design may enhance online students’ learning experiences.

  • The odor perception of key degradation products of polyamide 6.6
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Fechner Day 2009. - Galway, Irland : International Society for Psychophysics. ; , s. 335-340
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Psychophysical research on indoor air has not focused on the odor of degradation products of polymers in building materials, e.g. the polymer Polyamide 6.6. Three of its odorous degradation products, cyclopentanone, pentanoic acid, and 2-methyl-pyridine, were measured in the form of single chemical compounds and their four mixtures. The results from 15 participants’ scaling of perceived odor similarity and ranking of odor preference showed that the cyclopentanone odor is masked by the other odor(s) of its mixtures. A new odor quality was formed when pentanoic acid and 2-methyl-pyridine were mixed. The three chemical compounds, thus, provided for four unique odor qualities, as revealed in a PCA. Moreover, the odor intensity ranks confirmed intermediacy of odor mixtures relative to these same four unique odor qualities. Our results confirm the importance of degradation products of polyamide 6.6 as contributors to indoor air quality.
