  • Ferrocene-integrated conjugated microporous polymer nanosheets : Active and regenerative catalysts for photomediated controlled radical polymerization
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Applied materials today. - : Elsevier BV. - 2352-9407. ; 18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The challenge of light-driven controlled radical polymerization through non-noble metal catalyst remains the most significant issue. Ferrocene-bearing microporous aromatic polymer nanosheets (termed FeMAP-11) that feature high chemical stability were reported here to synergistically combine the advantageous properties of the redox-active ferrocene units and the conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs), and to be able to serve as photocatalyst for activators regenerated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (AGET-ATRP). It succeeded in initiating polymerizations of 3 common vinyl monomers, i.e. methyl methacrylate (MMA), methacrylate (MA) and styrene (St), and produced polymers with controlled molecular weight and relatively low molecular weight dispersity ((1) over tilde .3). Benefiting from steric hindrance through ketone-amine chemistry, the microporous catalyst with tolerance to acidic and basic media was found stable under the AGET-ATRP conditions. It showed negligible metal leaching and good recyclability for at least 10 cycles without sacrifice of its catalytic performance. Our tests proved that FeMAP-11 exceeded the state-of-the-art ATRP photocatalysts such as UiO-66-NH2, titanium MOF-901 and the commercial P-25 Titania, demonstrating promising potential in catalysis in view of green chemistry.

  • Toxic effects of erythromycin, ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole on photosynthetic apparatus in Selenastrum capricornutum
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety. - : Elsevier BV. - 0147-6513 .- 1090-2414. ; 74:4, s. 1027-1035
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effects of three antibiotics (erythromycin, ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole) on photosynthesis process of Selenastrum capricornutum were investigated by determining a battery of parameters including photosynthetic rate, chlorophyll fluorescence, Hill reaction, and ribulose-1.5-bisphosphate carboxylase activity, etc. The results indicated that three antibiotics could significantly inhibit the physiological progress including primary photochemistry, electron transport, photophosphorylation and carbon assimilation. Erythromycin could induce acute toxic effects at the concentration of 0.06 mg L(-1) while the same results were exhibited for ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole at higher than 1.0 mg L(-1). Erythromycin was considerably more toxic than ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole and may pose a higher potential risk to the aquatic ecosystem. Some indices like chlorophyll fluorescence, Mg(2+)-ATPase activity and RuBPCase activity showed a high specificity and sensitivity to the exposure of erythromycin, and may be potentially used as candidate biomarkers for the exposure of the macrolide antibiotics.

  • Weaving of organic threads into a crystalline covalent organic framework
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Science. - : American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). - 0036-8075 .- 1095-9203. ; 351:6271, s. 365-369
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A three-dimensional covalent organic framework (COF-505) constructed from helical organic threads, designed to be mutually weaving at regular intervals, has been synthesized by imine condensation reactions of aldehyde functionalized copper(I)-bisphenanthroline tetrafluoroborate, Cu(PDB)2(BF4), and benzidine (BZ). The copper centers are topologically independent of the weaving within the COF structure and serve as templates for bringing the threads into a woven pattern rather than the more commonly observed parallel arrangement. The copper(I) ions can be reversibly removed and added without loss of the COF structure, for which a tenfold increase in elasticity accompanies its demetalation. The threads in COF-505 have many degrees of freedom for enormous deviations to take place between them, throughout the material, without undoing the weaving of the overall structure.

  • Enhancing the internet of things with knowledge-driven software-defined networking technology : Future perspectives
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Sensors. - : MDPI AG. - 1424-8220. ; 20:12, s. 1-20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Internet of Things (IoT) connects smart devices to enable various intelligent services. The deployment of IoT encounters several challenges, such as difficulties in controlling and managing IoT applications and networks, problems in programming existing IoT devices, long service provisioning time, underused resources, as well as complexity, isolation and scalability, among others. One fundamental concern is that current IoT networks lack flexibility and intelligence. A network-wide flexible control and management are missing in IoT networks. In addition, huge numbers of devices and large amounts of data are involved in IoT, but none of them have been tuned for supporting network management and control. In this paper, we argue that Software-defined Networking (SDN) together with the data generated by IoT applications can enhance the control and management of IoT in terms of flexibility and intelligence. We present a review for the evolution of SDN and IoT and analyze the benefits and challenges brought by the integration of SDN and IoT with the help of IoT data. We discuss the perspectives of knowledge-driven SDN for IoT through a new IoT architecture and illustrate how to realize Industry IoT by using the architecture. We also highlight the challenges and future research works toward realizing IoT with the knowledge-driven SDN.

  • Microstructural refinement in spark plasma sintering 3Y-TZP nanoceramics
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of the European Ceramic Society. - : Elsevier BV. - 0955-2219 .- 1873-619X. ; 36:10, s. 2565-2571
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A commercial 3Y-TZP nanopowder was consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) techniques. By special die-upset designs, each possible influence from the electric field, uniaxial pressure and heating rate was peeled to identify its contribution. Besides density and grain growth, the evolution of pore structure was consulted to clarify the relationships between microstructural development and densification kinetics. The results showed that neither electric current nor fast heating had no decisive contributions while external force was a necessity for the microstructural refinement. The authors proposed that the essentially underlying mechanism was the intensive particle rearrangement, which involves no grain growth but particle close-packing through grain rotation and sliding. The full advantages of this mechanism can be taken in rapid heating conditions, which combined with the application of higher pressures, make the SPS family of techniques to have advancement in the preparations of nanoceramics over their conventional counterparts characterized by slow heating features.

  • Associations of sleep timing and time in bed with dementia and cognitive decline among Chinese older adults : A cohort study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of The American Geriatrics Society. - : Wiley. - 0002-8614 .- 1532-5415. ; 70:11, s. 3138-3151
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The longitudinal associations of sleep timing and time in bed (TIB) with dementia and cognitive decline in older adults are unclear. Methods: This population-based cohort study used data from 1982 participants who were aged >= 60 years, free of dementia, and living in rural communities in western Shandong, China. At the baseline (2014) and follow-up (2018) examinations, sleep parameters were assessed using standard questionnaires. Cognitive function was measured using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Dementia was diagnosed following the DSM-IV criteria, and the NIA-AA criteria for Alzheimer disease (AD). Data were analyzed using restricted cubic splines, Cox proportional-hazards models, and general linear models. Results: During the mean follow-up of 3.7 years, dementia was diagnosed in 97 participants (68 with AD). Restricted cubic spline curves showed J-shaped associations of sleep duration, TIB, and rise time with dementia risk, and a reverse J-shaped association with mid-sleep time. When sleep parameters were categorized into tertiles, the multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio (HR) of incident dementia was 1.69 (95%CI 1.01-2.83) for baseline sleep duration >8 hours (vs. 7-8 h), 2.17 (1.22-3.87) for bedtime before 9 p.m. (vs. 10 p.m. or later), and 2.00 (1.23-3.24) for mid-sleep time before 1 a.m. (vs. 1-1.5 a.m.). Early bedtime and mid-sleep time were significantly associated with incident AD (HR range: 2.25-2.51; p < 0.05). Among individuals who were free of dementia at follow-up, baseline long TIB, early bedtime and mid-sleep time, early and late rise time, and prolonged TIB and advanced bedtime and mid-sleep time from baseline to follow-up were associated with a greater decline in MMSE score (p < 0.05). These associations with cognitive decline were statistically evident mainly among men or participants who were aged 60-74 years. Conclusions: Long TIB and early sleep timing are associated with an increased risk of dementia, and the associations with greater cognitive decline are evident only among older people aged 60-74 years and men.

  • Association of sdLDL-C With Incident Carotid Plaques With Stable and Vulnerable Morphology : A Prospective Cohort Study
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Stroke. - 0039-2499 .- 1524-4628. ; 55:3, s. 576-585
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (sdLDL-C) particles are more atherogenic than large and intermediate low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) subfractions. We sought to investigate the association of sdLDL-C and the sdLDL-C/LDL-C ratio with incident carotid plaques with stable and vulnerable morphology in rural China.METHODS: This community-based cohort study used data from the RICAS study (Rose Asymptomatic Intracranial Artery Stenosis), which enrolled 887 participants (aged ≥40 years) who were living in Kongcun Town, Pingyin County, Shandong, and free of carotid plaques and had no history of clinical stroke or transient ischemic attack at baseline (2017). Incident carotid plaques and their vulnerability were detected by carotid ultrasound at follow-up (2021). Multivariable logistic regression models were used to explore the association of sdLDL-C or sdLDL-C/LDL-C ratio with incident carotid plaques while adjusting for demographic factors, vascular risk factors, and follow-up time.RESULTS: Of the 887 participants (mean age [SD], 53.89 [8.67%] years; 54.34% women), 179 (20.18%) were detected with incident carotid plaques during an average follow-up of 3.94 years (SD=0.14). Higher sdLDL-C or sdLDL-C/LDL-C ratio, but not LDL-C, was significantly associated with an increased risk of incident carotid plaques. The upper tertile of sdLDL-C (versus lower tertile) was associated with the multivariate-adjusted odds ratio of 2.48 (95% CI, 1.00–6.15; P=0.049; P for linear trend=0.046) for carotid plaques with vulnerable morphology (n=41), and the association remained significant in participants with normal LDL-C (<130 mg/dL; n=693; upper versus lower tertile: odds ratio, 3.38 [95% CI, 1.15–9.90]; P=0.027; P for linear trend=0.025). Moreover, the sdLDL-C/LDL-C ratio was associated with a higher odds ratio of incident carotid plaques in participants without diabetes (P for interaction=0.014).CONCLUSIONS: Higher sdLDL-C was associated with an increased risk of incident carotid plaques, especially carotid plaques with vulnerable morphology, even in participants with normal LDL-C. This suggests the potential of sdLDL-C as a therapeutic target for stroke prevention.
