  • Success Criteria in Zygomatic Implant Dentistry
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Zygomatic Implants. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030292638 - 9783030292669 - 9783030292645 ; , s. 211-233
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The extreme maxillary atrophy that indicates the use of zygomatic implants (ZI) is associated with resorptive changes in both alveolar and basal bone, and prevents direct placement of conventional endosseous implants. Therefore, using conventional criteria to describe implant success/failure is not sensible for ZI. Moreover, protocols for the rehabilitation of the atrophic maxilla using ZI have been continuously evolving to overcome initial shortcomings of early initial shortcomings of early techniques. The current zygomatic approach is relatively new, especially if the head of the ZI is located in an extra-maxillary buccal position to the alveolar crest with no alveolar bone around its perimeter. The zygomatic-related rehabilitation protocol differs from conventional implant therapy with respect to biomechanics, clinical procedures, outcomes, and eventual complications such as soft tissue incompetence or recession that may lead to recurrent sinus/soft tissue infections and aesthetic patient complaints. Currently, the way in which results and complications of ZI are reported in the scientific literature is inconsistent and lacks a standardized approach. Specific criteria to describe success/survival of ZI, including a standardized way to report on rhinosinus pathology associated with ZI, is necessary. The aim of this chapter is to critically review success criteria used for conventional and zygomatic implants. Finally, a revisited Zygomatic Success Code describing specific criteria to score the outcome of a rehabilitation anchored on ZI is proposed. The authors use the ORIS acronym to name four specific criteria to systematically describe the outcome of ZI rehabilitation:Offset: evaluation of prosthetic success based on the final positioning of the zygomatic implant with respect to the middle of the alveolar crest in the horizontal dimension.Rhinosinus status report: a pre, and postsurgical cone-beam computed tomography comparative approach to evaluating whether sinuses are healthy; a clinical questionnaire where “yes” and “no” answers can be given.Infection permanence related to dehiscence: an evaluation of soft tissue signs of infection or dehiscence on a grading scale based on reference photographs.Stability report: accepting as success some mobility until dis-osseointegration signs of rotation or apical pain present.

  • Lepidoptera
  • 2010. - 1
  • Ingår i: Alien Terrestrial Arthropods of Europe. Pt 2.. - Sofia : Pensoft Publishers. - 9789546425553 ; , s. 603-668
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We provide a comprehensive overview of those Lepidopteran invasions to Europe that result from increasing globalisation and also review expansion of species within Europe. A total of 97 non-native Lepidoptera species (about 1% of the known fauna), in 20 families and 11 superfamilies have established so far in Europe, of which 30 alone are Pyraloidea. In addition, 88 European species in 25 families have expanded their range within Europe and around 23% of these are of Mediterranean or Balkan origin, invading the north and west. Although a number of these alien species have been in Europe for hundreds of years, 74% have established during the 20th century and arrivals are accelerating, with an average of 1.9 alien Lepidoptera newly established per year between 2000–2007. For 78 aliens with a known area of origin, Asia has contributed 28.9%, Africa (including Macaronesian islands, Canaries, Madeira and Azores) 21.6%, North America 16.5%, Australasia 7.2% and the neotropics just 5.2%. The route for almost all aliens to Europe is via importation of plants or plant products. Most alien Lepidoptera established in Europe are also confined to man-made habitats, with 52.5% occuring in parks and gardens. We highlight four species in particular, Diaphania perspectalis, Cacyreus marshalli, Cameraria ohridella and Paysandisia archon, as the most important current economic threats.

  • Reframing energy efficiency in industry : a discussion of definitions, rationales and management practices
  • 2020. - 1
  • Ingår i: Energy and Behaviour: challenges of a low-carbon future. - : Elsevier. - 9780128185674 ; , s. 153-176
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Energy efficiency is a priority goal and an important part of the transformation to a more sustainable society. The industrial sector is an important actor in this setting. In this chapter we outline the major principles for energy efficiency and energy management in industry and discuss how to develop the energy management perspective with theories from social science focusing on how situated actions, tacit knowledge and social networks can influence decision-making. By cross-pollinating fields that do not usually meet, the aim is to develop new insights contributing to existing research. We conclude that an energy management model is necessary, which can be adjusted to the local context in which it will be used. We also suggest an energy management model focusing the importance of knowledge and communication.

  • Tensor Field Regularization Using Normalized Convolution and Markov Random Fields in a Bayesian Framework
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Visualization and Image Processing of Tensor Fields. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin/Heidelberg. - 3540250328 - 9783540312727 ; , s. 381-398
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter presents two techniques for regularization of tensor fields. We first present a nonlinear filtering technique based on normalized convolution, a general method for filtering missing and uncertain data. We describe how the signal certainty function can be constructed to depend on locally derived certainty information and further combined with a spatially dependent certainty field. This results in reduced mixing between regions of different signal characteristics, and increased robustness to outliers, compared to the standard approach of normalized convolution using only a spatial certainty field. We contrast this deterministic approach with a stochastic technique based on a multivariate Gaussian signal model in a Bayesian framework. This method uses a Markov random field approach with a 3D neighborhood system for modeling spatial interactions between the tensors locally. Experiments both on synthetic and real data are presented. The driving tensor application for this work throughout the chapter is the filtering of diffusion tensor MRI data.
