  • Phenotype Harmonization in the GLIDE2 Oral Health Genomics Consortium
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Dental Research. - : Sage Publications. - 0022-0345 .- 1544-0591. ; 101:11, s. 1408-1416
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Genetic risk factors play important roles in the etiology of oral, dental, and craniofacial diseases. Identifying the relevant risk loci and understanding their molecular biology could highlight new prevention and management avenues. Our current understanding of oral health genomics suggests that dental caries and periodontitis are polygenic diseases, and very large sample sizes and informative phenotypic measures are required to discover signals and adequately map associations across the human genome. In this article, we introduce the second wave of the Gene-Lifestyle Interactions and Dental Endpoints consortium (GLIDE2) and discuss relevant data analytics challenges, opportunities, and applications. In this phase, the consortium comprises a diverse, multiethnic sample of over 700,000 participants from 21 studies contributing clinical data on dental caries experience and periodontitis. We outline the methodological challenges of combining data from heterogeneous populations, as well as the data reduction problem in resolving detailed clinical examination records into tractable phenotypes, and describe a strategy that addresses this. Specifically, we propose a 3-tiered phenotyping approach aimed at leveraging both the large sample size in the consortium and the detailed clinical information available in some studies, wherein binary, severity-encompassing, and “precision,” data-driven clinical traits are employed. As an illustration of the use of data-driven traits across multiple cohorts, we present an application of dental caries experience data harmonization in 8 participating studies (N = 55,143) using previously developed permanent dentition tooth surface–level dental caries pattern traits. We demonstrate that these clinical patterns are transferable across multiple cohorts, have similar relative contributions within each study, and thus are prime targets for genetic interrogation in the expanded and diverse multiethnic sample of GLIDE2. We anticipate that results from GLIDE2 will decisively advance the knowledge base of mechanisms at play in oral, dental, and craniofacial health and disease and further catalyze international collaboration and data and resource sharing in genomics research.

  • Biological factors involved in alveolar bone regeneration Consensus report of Working Group 1 of the 15(th) European Workshop on Periodontology on Bone Regeneration
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Periodontology. - : Wiley. - 0303-6979 .- 1600-051X. ; 46, s. 6-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and Aims To describe the biology of alveolar bone regeneration. Material and Methods Four comprehensive reviews were performed on (a) mesenchymal cells and differentiation factors leading to bone formation; (b) the critical interplay between bone resorbing and formative cells; (c) the role of osteoimmunology in the formation and maintenance of alveolar bone; and (d) the self-regenerative capacity following bone injury or tooth extraction were prepared prior to the workshop. Results and Conclusions This summary information adds to the fuller understanding of the alveolar bone regenerative response with implications to reconstructive procedures for patient oral rehabilitation. The group collectively formulated and addressed critical questions based on each of the reviews in this consensus report to advance the field. The report concludes with identified areas of future research.

  • The FERRUM Project: New f-value Data for Fe II and Astrophysical Applications
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0281-1847 .- 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; T100, s. 71-80
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the FERRUM Project, an international collaboration aiming at a production and evaluation of oscillator strengths (transition probabilities) of selected spectral lines of singly ionized iron group elements, that are of astrophysical relevance. The results obtained include measurements and calculations of permitted and forbidden lines of Fe II. The data have been applied to both emission and absorption lines in astrophysical spectra. We make comparisons between experimental, theoretical and astrophysical f-values. We give a general review of the various measurements, and discuss the UV8 multiplet of Fe II around 1610 Šin detail.

  • The FERRUM project: experimental lifetimes of highly excited FeII 3d(6)4p levels and transition probabilities
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075 .- 1361-6455. ; 32:24, s. 5687-5698
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on measurements of radiative lifetimes in singly ionized iron of six 3d(6)4p levels between 61 512 and 64 041 cm(-1),using time resolved laser-induced fluorescence. Absolute oscillator strengths of 18 Fe II lines in the wavelength range from 2350 to 2800 Angstrom have been obtained by measuring branching fractions for the lines from two Fe II levels with a Fourier-transform spectrometer. The uncertainty in the lifetimes is between 8% and 13%, whereas the uncertainty of the f-values varies between 9% and 19%. A comparison with several previously published values is given.

  • Experimentally Measured Radiative Lifetimes and Oscillator Strengths in Neutral Vanadium
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : Bibliopolis, Edizioni di Filosofia e Scienze. - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 224:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report a new study of the V i atom using a combination of time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence and Fourier transform spectroscopy that contains newly measured radiative lifetimes for 25 levels between 24,648 cm-1 and 37,518 cm-1 and oscillator strengths for 208 lines between 3040 and 20000 Å from 39 upper energy levels. Thirteen of these oscillator strengths have not been reported previously. This work was conducted independently of the recent studies of neutral vanadium lifetimes and oscillator strengths carried out by Den Hartog et al. and Lawler et al., and thus serves as a means to verify those measurements. Where our data overlap with their data, we generally find extremely good agreement in both level lifetimes and oscillator strengths. However, we also find evidence that Lawler et al. have systematically underestimated oscillator strengths for lines in the region of 9000 ± 100 Å. We suggest a correction of 0.18 ± 0.03 dex for these values to bring them into agreement with our results and those of Whaling et al. We also report new measurements of hyperfine structure splitting factors for three odd levels of V i lying between 24,700 and 28,400 cm-1.

  • Experimental MoII oscillator strengths
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075 .- 1361-6455. ; 34:3, s. 477-490
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Experimental branching fractions (BFs) of Mo (II,) ranging in wavelength from 1970 to 4370 Angstrom, have been measured from intensity calibrated spectra recorded with the Lund UV Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS). Radiative lifetimes for 10 levels have been measured using the method of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). Combining BFs with new as well as previously measured lifetimes, 16 in total, oscillator strengths of 91 lines were derived. Seven transitions are resonance lines involving the ground state. The BF results are compared with calculations made with the Cowan code and the f-values are compared with previously published data. Improved wavelengths from an ongoing term analysis are also reported.
