  • Development of Robust Metal-Supported SOFCs and Stack Components in EU METSAPP Consortium
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Fuel Cells. - : Wiley. - 1615-6846 .- 1615-6854. ; 17:4, s. 508-516
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The potential of MS-SOFCs was demonstrated through the previous EU METSOFC project, which concluded that the development of oxidation resistant novel metal-supported solid oxide fule cell (MS-SOFC) design and stack is the requirement to advance this technology to the next level. The following EU METSAPP project has been executed with an overall aim of developing advanced metal-supported cells and stacks based on a robust, reliable and up-scalable technology. During the project, oxidation resistant nanostructured anodes based on modified SrTiO3 were developed and integrated into MS-SOFCs to enhance their robustness. In addition, the manufacturing of metal-supported cells with different geometries, scalability of the manufacturing process was demonstrated and more than 200 cells with an area of approximate to 150 cm(2) were produced. The electrochemical performance of different cell generations was evaluated and best performance and stability combination was observed with doped SrTiO3 based anode designs. Furthermore, numerical models to understand the corrosion behavior of the MS-SOFCs were developed and validated. Finally, the cost effective concept of coated metal interconnects was developed, which resulted in 90% reduction in Cr evaporation, three times lower Cr2O3 scale thickness and increased lifetime. The possibility of assembling these cells into two radically different stack designs was demonstrated.

  • Spatial mapping of protein composition and tissue organization : a primer for multiplexed antibody-based imaging
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nature Methods. - : Nature Research. - 1548-7091 .- 1548-7105. ; 19:3, s. 284-295
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tissues and organs are composed of distinct cell types that must operate in concert to perform physiological functions. Efforts to create high-dimensional biomarker catalogs of these cells have been largely based on single-cell sequencing approaches, which lack the spatial context required to understand critical cellular communication and correlated structural organization. To probe in situ biology with sufficient depth, several multiplexed protein imaging methods have been recently developed. Though these technologies differ in strategy and mode of immunolabeling and detection tags, they commonly utilize antibodies directed against protein biomarkers to provide detailed spatial and functional maps of complex tissues. As these promising antibody-based multiplexing approaches become more widely adopted, new frameworks and considerations are critical for training future users, generating molecular tools, validating antibody panels, and harmonizing datasets. In this Perspective, we provide essential resources, key considerations for obtaining robust and reproducible imaging data, and specialized knowledge from domain experts and technology developers.

  • Life cycle assessment as decision-support in choice of road corridor : case study and stakeholder perspectives
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Sustainable Transportation. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1556-8318 .- 1556-8334. ; , s. 1-18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Use of life cycle assessment (LCA) in choice of road corridor could reduce environmental impacts of traffic and infrastructure. This paper explores how the LCA model LICCER, designed to compare life cycle climate impact and energy use of alternative road corridors, fulfills practitioners’ requirements concerning data availability and usefulness for decision-making. Results are based on a case study where the model was applied to a Swedish road reconstruction project and a workshop with potential users of the model. In the case study, the shorter construction alternatives had the lowest traffic related impacts and the highest infrastructure related impacts. Earthworks, soil stabilization, and pavement contributed most to infrastructure related impacts. For the stakeholders, the LICCER model was considered useful because it includes both traffic and infrastructure, includes default data that the user can replace by project specific data, identifies possible improvements, and presents results relative to a reference alternative. However, the model could be improved by including further nation specific default data, different traffic scenarios depending on the road corridor, more detailed traffic scenarios, and an uncertainty assessment of the model output. These findings may be useful in the development and improvement of LCA models and when evaluating the suitability of existing models for use in early planning.

  • Addressable molecular node assembly - high information density DNA nanostructures
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Nucleic acids symposium series (2004). - 1746-8272. ; :52, s. 683-684
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The inherent self-assembly properties of DNA make it ideal in nanotechnology. We present a fully addressable DNA nanostructure with the smallest possible unit cell, a hexagon with a side-length of only 3.4 nm.(2,3) Using novel three-way oligonucleotides, where each side has a unique double-stranded DNA sequence that can be assigned a specific address, we will build a non-repetitive two-dimensional grid.

  • Downtime analysis of drilling machines and suggestions for improvements
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Quality in Maintenance Engineering. - 1355-2511 .- 1758-7832. ; 20:4, s. 306-332
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to analyse and compare the downtime of four drilling machines used in two underground mines in Sweden. The downtime of these machines was compared to show what problems affect downtime and which strategies should be applied to reduce it.Design/methodology/approach– The study collects failure data from a two-year period for four drilling machines and performs reliability analysis. It also performs downtime analysis utilising a log-log diagram with a confidence interval.Findings– There are notable differences in the downtime of most of the studied components for all machines. The hoses and feeder have relatively high downtime. Depending on their downtime, the significant components can be ranked in three groups. The downtime of the studied components is due to reliability problems. The study suggests the need to improve the reliability of critical components to reduce the downtime of drilling machines.Originality/value– The method of analysing the downtime, identifying dominant factors and the interval estimation for the downtime, has never been studied on drilling machines. The research proposed in this paper provides a general method to link downtime analysis with potential component improvement. To increase the statistical accuracy; four case studies was performed in two different mines with completely different working environment and ore properties. Using the above method showed which components need to be improved and suggestions for improvement was proposed and will be implemented accordingly.

  • OpenMolcas : From Source Code to Insight
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemical Theory and Computation. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1549-9618 .- 1549-9626. ; 15:11, s. 5925-5964
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this Article we describe the OpenMolcas environment and invite the computational chemistry community to collaborate. The open-source project already includes a large number of new developments realized during the transition from the commercial MOLCAS product to the open-source platform. The paper initially describes the technical details of the new software development platform. This is followed by brief presentations of many new methods, implementations, and features of the OpenMolcas program suite. These developments include novel wave function methods such as stochastic complete active space self-consistent field, density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) methods, and hybrid multiconfigurational wave function and density functional theory models. Some of these implementations include an array of additional options and functionalities. The paper proceeds and describes developments related to explorations of potential energy surfaces. Here we present methods for the optimization of conical intersections, the simulation of adiabatic and nonadiabatic molecular dynamics, and interfaces to tools for semiclassical and quantum mechanical nuclear dynamics. Furthermore, the Article describes features unique to simulations of spectroscopic and magnetic phenomena such as the exact semiclassical description of the interaction between light and matter, various X-ray processes, magnetic circular dichroism, and properties. Finally, the paper describes a number of built-in and add-on features to support the OpenMolcas platform with postcalculation analysis and visualization, a multiscale simulation option using frozen-density embedding theory, and new electronic and muonic basis sets.

  • Evaporation of intercepted snow : analysis of governing factors
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Water resources research. - 0043-1397 .- 1944-7973. ; 30:9, s. 2587-2598
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Insufficient understanding of winter hydrology conditions still hampers progress in predicting springtime discharge. The least known term in the winter water balance is evaporation, particularly of intercepted snow. Recent studies have shown that the evaporation from intercepted snow can be important. This paper elaborates factors governing evaporation of intercepted snow. Measurements with a cut tree-weighing device combined with a method to measure throughfall and drip gave a maximum evaporation rate of 0.3 +/- 0.06 mm/h or 3.3 +/- 0.06 mm/24 hours from a 6-m-high spruce. Calculations of evaporation with a combination equation and different ways to calculate the aerodynamic resistance and the evaporation from a snow-intercepted canopy during melt and sleet events showed that the most important factors for calculating the evaporation were the relative humidity, the aerodynamic resistance, the wind speed, and the intercepted mass. Less important factors were the energy to melt the intercepted snow, the method for calculating reduction in evaporation caused by a partly snow-covered canopy, accuracy in measurement of wind speed, air temperature, and net radiation.

  • Master-slave carrier recovery for M-QAM multicore fiber transmission
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 27:16, s. 22226-22236
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Master-slave carrier recovery is a digital signal processing technique that uses correlated phase noise in multi-channel receivers to eliminate redundant carrier recovery blocks. In this paper we experimentally investigate the performance of master-slave carrier recovery for multicore fiber transmission in the presence of inter-channel nonlinear interference. Using a triple parallel loop setup we jointly receive three spatial channels in a 7-core fiber for transmission distances of up to 1600 km. We find that an increased launch power causes a moderate penalty on the slave channels. Furthermore, we study the penalty from a non-zero inter-core skew.
