    • The article shows how a grammar-didactic model designed for an L1 context can be used for grammar learning as well as language and writing development in an L2 con-text. Because classrooms in Sweden, Denmark and Norway are becoming increasingly heterogenous, teachers must be able to develop the language of pupils with differing linguistic predispositions. The model that is being proposed is designed around explicit teaching with the table for sentence structure as point of departure (see Appendix 1). The purpose of the model is to act as a tool for language development, while simul-taneously contributing to the consolidation of grammatical knowledge. In the article, results from an intervention study are presented, where the model has been used for grammar teaching and process-writing in a class of L2 pupils. The pupils’ grammar learning, as it manifests in their results on the grammar exam as well as in their handlingof the teacher’s comments on their texts, is examined using the concepts appropriation, internalization and implementation. The pupils’ exam results show to which extent the pupils have appropriated grammatical knowledge, while their handling of the text-comments show if and how they have internalized and potentially implemented the grammatical knowledge. In the analysis, the pupils’ exam results and texts are compared, focusing on clausal hierarchy, inversion and V2 as well as agreement and definiteness in nominal phrases – areas that have previously been shown to be central for language development while at the same time problematic when learning grammar. The analyses indicate that the pupils have appropriated the grammatical knowledge to differing extents and that some are on their way toward an internalization of the knowledge. One conclusion is that, while this way of working requires great effort by teachers and pupils, the formal grammatical knowledge and the practical working with texts appear to benefit each other.

    • Research and Innovation Agenda for Recovery of Nutrients from WastewaterProjects funded on the topic of nutrient recovery and reuse in Sweden over the past years have been scattered, lacking a coherence in direction and coordination between the numerous research funding organizations. This agenda has been developed with the purpose of creating a framework and common understanding of what research and innovation is necessary to move forward in a transition to a circular nutrient economy. The goal was to identify and prioritize the R&I needs in order to enable a productive dialogue between investors, researchers and other crucial societal actors including organizations, the public sector and the industry.The results and conclusions presented in this report are mainly drawn from a workshop in September 2019, with around 40 participants representing the water and wastewater sector, municipalities, academia, the agricultural sector, the industry and Swedish national agencies.In the transition to a more circular management of nutrients including waste streams, several challenges were identified. The identified challenges in a nutshell:- Current system solutions are not optimized, there is a lack of holistic approach- Business models and incentives to choose products based on recovered nutrients on the market are missing- Technology needed for circular management of nutrients are in general on a low technology readiness level- Recovered nutrient products must maintain a uniform and high quality in order to compete on the market and the requirements should be the same for all fertilizers.The agenda concludes that the research and innovation actions to meet the challenges should follow a holistic approach that includes the entire value chain of nutrient management in the food system. All essential nutrients in the food system and other resources in its waste streams should be considered, to maximize efficient and circular nutrient management. Based on this understanding, that a holistic approach is of such importance to target the identified challenges, the research and innovation needs were identified as:- Develop a national plant nutrient management strategy that describes holistically how to manage nutrients overall in a circular economy- Develop goals and targets for nutrient recovery from wastewater based on this nutrient management strategy (the Swedish inquiry on sludge management suggested a requirement of 60 % phosphorus recovery from wastewater treatment plants, this should just be the beginning and goals should also be set for other nutrients)- A larger interdisciplinary R&I effort regarding the recovery goals should be coordinated to analyze how the transition to a circular management of nutrients best can be accomplished on a systems level- Provide support to develop business models for optimal collaboration between different actors in different parts of the value chain and maximized resource efficiency- Technology development and demonstrations aligned with the holistic approach for circular management of nutrients in the suggested national nutrient management strategy

    • Skolval arrangeras regelbundet på Sveriges gymnasie- och högstadieskolor för att ge elever möjlighet att ta ställning till, och rösta på ett politiskt parti. Syftet är att stärka elevers delaktighet i demokratin till exempel genom att motivera elever att lära sig mer om partier och politik, och att stärka ett aktivt medborgarskap. Men vilken betydelse har deltagande i skolval för elevers delaktighet i demokratin? Den här policy briefen redovisar resultat från en analys av i vilken mån deltagande i skolval bidrar till att främja ungas förutsättningar att delta i demokratin. Policy briefen är skriven av Erik Lundberg, docent i statsvetenskap vid Högskolan Dalarna i samarbete med Hanna Lundin, mastersstudent i internationell och jämförande utbildning vid Stockholms universitet. Resultaten baseras på den utvärdering av Skolval 2022 som har genomförts av Myndigheten för ungdoms- och civilsamhällesfrågor (MUCF).

  • Rättfärdigade prioriteringar : en kvalitativ analys av hur personal i äldreomsorgen hanterar motstridiga verksamhetslogiker

    • This dissertation aims at contributing to social scientific knowledge about prevailing prioritizations in eldercarepractice by looking at an economic and a caring logic, and how these logics are overlapping, contradictory or comein conflict with each other. A more concrete aim is to understand how the personnel describe their work with orfor balance between the logics and their justifications prioritizations made in the care of older persons. The researchquestion is: How do personnel and care unit manager at a public nursing home understand and handle the twologics that govern care work for facilitating wellbeing of the residents. The aim and research question led to threesub-aims: 1) to analyze the personnel’s experiences of and meaning making about the care work they carry out, 2)to illuminate and problematize the two logics above, and 3)to analyze how the personnel justify their prioritizationsin prevailing context, and how their accountability have an effect on their professional identities.Empirical material was gathered through 13 individual interviews with care personnel and their care unitmanager at a public nursing home in Sweden. These interviews were complemented by a group interview. Thematerial was analyzed by the use of three methods: phenomenology (Paper I and II), reflexive analysis (Paper III),and a positioning analysis (Paper IV). Paper I found that the personnel understands the residents’ well-being asbeing characterized by feeling of being existentially touched. This essence is constituted by feeling freedom ofchoice, pleasure, and closeness to someone or something. In Paper II, the work for facilitating this kind of wellbeingwas characterized by three ambiguities: (i) freedom of choice for the older persons vs. institutionalconstraints, (ii) the residents' need for activation vs. wanting not to be activated, and (iii) the residents' need forroutine vs. the eldercarers' not being able to know what the residents need. Paper III showed that the care unitmanager created a hybrid of the two logics (economy is care and vice versa) and that the personnel oppose thishybrid. The opposition is shaped as the personnel divides their work in care and “those other things”. Thesefindings showed how interaction between the logics expresses itself in practice and that it is the personnel who hasto handle contradictions between the logics in their everyday care work. The positioning analysis in Paper IV hadthree levels. The first level showed how the carers align with their peers and that they find the organizationalframe, within which they have agency, changed due to increased workload. This change led to an order of priorities.The second level showed that the carers relate to three aspects when making accounts: the care itself, the olderpersons, and the media. The third level showed that the carers share a view of administration, cleaning, servingmeals, and filling up supplies, as not being parts of caring.The dissertation’s theoretical framework focused on theories on logics, accountability, and professionalidentity. The conclusion is that both logics are needed in order to facilitate the well-being of the older persons. Therelationships between the two logics are not always clear and if their contradictions are not illuminated, there is arisk for a care practice that does not facilitate the well-being of their residents. An important theoreticalcontribution is that logics of activities should be understood vertically (form political, through management, anddown to the level of practice) instead of horizontally. The practical implications emphasize the importance ofsupporting the personnel’s professional identity on the one hand, and discussing the logics on the other. Byunderstanding differences between definitions on management-level and practice level, a homogeneity can bereached.
