  • COMET 67P/CHURYUMOV-GERASIMENKO : CLOSE-UP on DUST PARTICLE FRAGMENTS
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Letters. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 2041-8205 .- 2041-8213. ; 816:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The COmetary Secondary Ion Mass Analyser instrument on board ESA's Rosetta mission has collected dust particles in the coma of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. During the early-orbit phase of the Rosetta mission, particles and particle agglomerates have been imaged and analyzed in the inner coma at distances between 100 km and 10 km off the cometary nucleus and at more than 3 AU from the Sun. We identified 585 particles of more than 14 μm in size. The particles are collected at low impact speeds and constitute a sample of the dust particles in the inner coma impacting and fragmenting on the targets. The sizes of the particles range from 14 μm up to sub-millimeter sizes and the differential dust flux size distribution is fitted with a power law exponent of -3.1. After impact, the larger particles tend to stick together, spread out or consist of single or a group of clumps, and the flocculent morphology of the fragmented particles is revealed. The elemental composition of the dust particles is heterogeneous and the particles could contain typical silicates like olivine and pyroxenes, as well as iron sulfides. The sodium to iron elemental ratio is enriched with regard to abundances in CI carbonaceous chondrites by a factor from ∼1.5 to ∼15. No clear evidence for organic matter has been identified. The composition and morphology of the collected dust particles appear to be similar to that of interplanetary dust particles.

  • Protein-polyelectrolyte cluster formation and redissolution: A Monte Carlo study
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Journal of The American Ceramic Society. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0002-7820 .- 1551-2916. ; 125:10, s. 3140-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aqueous solutions of proteins and oppositely charged polyelectrolytes were studied at different polyelectrolyte chain length, ionic strength, and protein-protein interaction potential as a function of the polyelectrolyte concentration. One of the protein models used represented lysozyme in aqueous environment. The model systems were solved by Monte Carlo simulations, and their properties were analyzed in terms of radial distribution functions, structure factors, and cluster composition probabilities. In the system with the strongest electrostatic protein-polyelectrolyte interaction the largest clusters were formed near or at equivalent amount of net protein charge and polyelectrolyte charge, whereas in excess of polyelectrolyte a redissolution appeared. Shorter polyelectrolyte chains and increased ionic strength lead to weaker cluster formation. An inclusion of nonelectrostatic protein-protein attraction promoted the protein-polyelectrolyte cluster formation.

  • An ancestral hard-shelled sea turtle with a mosaic of soft skin and scutes
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Nature Research. - 2045-2322. ; 12:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The transition from terrestrial to marine environments by secondarily aquatic tetrapods necessitates a suite of adaptive changes associated with life in the sea, e.g., the scaleless skin in adult individuals of the extant leatherback turtle. A partial, yet exceptionally preserved hard-shelled (Pan-Cheloniidae) sea turtle with extensive soft-tissue remains, including epidermal scutes and a virtually complete flipper outline, was recently recovered from the Eocene Fur Formation of Denmark. Examination of the fossilized limb tissue revealed an originally soft, wrinkly skin devoid of scales, together with organic residues that contain remnant eumelanin pigment and inferred epidermal transformation products. Notably, this stem cheloniid—unlike its scaly living descendants—combined scaleless limbs with a bony carapace covered in scutes. Our findings show that the adaptive transition to neritic waters by the ancestral pan-chelonioids was more complex than hitherto appreciated, and included at least one evolutionary lineage with a mosaic of integumental features not seen in any living turtle. © 2022, The Author(s).

  • International comparison of current transformer calibration systems up to 10 kA at 50 Hz frequency
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2016). - 9781467391344
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Current transformers (CTs) are precision devices that scale high currents down to values that can be easily handled by measurement equipment. To support CT applications in revenue metering, a comparison on AC current transformer calibration systems was performed among 15 European national metrology institutes using a precision CT as the travelling device. The first comparison results for the transformation ratios (4, 5, 6, 8, 10) kA/5 A of the travelling CT at nominal burden of 5 VA and 15 VA indicate good agreement between the participating laboratories. The main differences are found for phase displacement, at least partly caused by the instability of the traveling standard.

  • Results of an International Comparison of Instrument Current Transformers up to 10 kA at 50 Hz Frequency
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: CPEM 2018 - Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements. - 9781538609736
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Traceability of the current ratio is crucial for the measurement of electrical energy in revenue metering. A comparison of the AC current ratio was therefore performed within EURAMET in the time period 2012-2016, using a precision CT as the traveling device. The Czech Metrology Institute (CMI) as coordinator processed the measurement results of the 15 European participating laboratories. The comparison of the results for transformer ratios of (4, 5, 6, 8, 10) kA 5 A at 15 VA burden and (4 and 10) kA 5 A ratios at 5 VA burden indicates good agreement between the participating laboratories. The main differences are found for phase displacement, at least in part due to instability of the traveling standard. .

  • Hermetic all-fiber phase modulators using Joule heating in carbon-coated fibers
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Optics InfoBase Conference Papers. - Washington, D.C. : OSA - The Optical Society. - 9781557528209
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Certain applications of fiber sensors (e.g. avionics, oil industry) imply extreme operating conditions spurring the development of hermetic all-fiber devices. We present a hermetic all-fiber phase modulator based on Joule heating in a carbon-coated fiber.

  • Hermetic Carbon Coatings for Electro-Thermal All-Fiber Phase Modulators
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Lightwave Technology. - : IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC. - 0733-8724 .- 1558-2213. ; 37:18, s. 4567-4572
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Joule effect and thermal response of several carbon-coated fibers are modeled and analyzed. An electro-thermally driven all-fiber phase modulator based on these principles is proposed and a proof of concept of it is characterized. This kind of fiber could be the basis for developing all-fiber components aimed to operate in environments where the strength increase and impermeability to hydrogen diffusion guaranteed by the carbon coating is crucial.

  • Testability and Software Performance : A Systematic Mapping Study
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: SAC '16. - New York, NY : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9781450337397 ; , s. 1566-1569
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In most of the research on software testability, functional correctness of the software has been the focus while the evidence regarding testability and non-functional properties such as performance is sporadic. The objective of this study is to present the current state-of-the-art related to issues of importance, types and domains of software under test, types of research, contribution types and design evaluation methods concerning testability and software performance. We find that observability, controllability and testing effort are the main testability issues while timeliness and response time (i.e., time constraints) are the main performance issues in focus. The primary studies in the area use diverse types of software under test within different domains, with realtime systems as being a dominant domain. The researchers have proposed many different methods in the area, however these methods lack implementation in practice.
