  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Small Business Economics. - : Springer. - 0921-898X .- 1573-0913. ; 61:1, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Professor Saras Sarasvathy is the recipient of the 2022 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research. Her research contributions have fundamentally changed and invigorated the conversation in the domain of entrepreneurship research. Sarasvathy’s work on effectuation emphasizes how entrepreneurs operate based on available resources, think in terms of affordable loss rather than profit maximization, leverage trustworthy partnerships, and treat unforeseen contingencies as opportunities rather than problems. It has led and inspired a new generation of researchers in the quest for a better understanding of how entrepreneurs make their decisions and the unfolding of the entrepreneurial process. © 2023, The Author(s).

  • Four Multi-Agent Architectures for Intelligent Network Load Management
  • 2002
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Four different multi-agent system architectures for a dynamic resource allocation problem are presented and evaluated. Although all the architectures use three types of agents, i.e., quantifiers that act on the behalf the providers, allocators that act on the behalf of the customers, and distributors that decide how the available resources should be divided between the customers, they differ with respect to the degree of distribution of control and the degree of synchronization. The architectures are evaluated through simulation experiments concerning load balancing and overload control of intelligent networks. A number of aspects are compared, e.g., how fast the system re-allocates the resources when there are sudden changes in demand, how well the load is balanced between the providers, how well the resources are utilized, how fast a customer gets response, how fairly the system treats the customers, how robust the system is, and the amount of communication overhead. Some of the conclusions are that the asynchronous architectures react faster and that the centralized architectures balance the load better. On the other hand, the centralized architectures have a single point of failure and the asynchronous architectures tend to use more communication overhead.

  • Ebola : an open letter to European governments
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The Lancet. - 0140-6736 .- 1474-547X. ; 384:9950
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • After months of inaction and neglect from the international community, the Ebola epidemic in west Africa has now spiralled utterly out of control. Today, the virus is a threat not only to the countries where the outbreak has overwhelmed the capacity of national health systems, but also to the entire world. We urge our governments to mobilise all possible resources to assist west Africa in controlling this horrific epidemic. Based on our expertise in public health and emergency response, this open letter describes believes and measures particularly effective to take into actions.

  • A 3d convolutional neural network for bacterial image classification
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing. - Singapore : Springer. - 9789811552847 ; , s. 419-431
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Identification and analysis of biological microscopy images need high focus and years of experience to master the art. The rise of deep neural networks enables analyst to achieve the desired results with reduced time and cost. Light sheet fluorescence microscopies are one of the types of 3D microcopy images. Processing microscopy images is tedious process as it consists of low-level features. It is necessary to use proper image processing techniques to extract the low-level features of the biological microscopy images. Deep neural networks (DNN) are efficient in extracting the features of images and able to classify with high accuracy. Convolutional neural networks (CNN) are one of the types of neural networks that can provide promising results with less error rates. The ability of CNN to extract the low-level features of images makes it popular for image classification. In this paper, a CNN-based 3D bacterial image classification is proposed. 3D images contain more in-depth features than 2D images. The proposed CNN model is trained on 3D light sheet fluorescence microscopy images of larval zebrafish. The proposed CNN model classifies the bacterial and non-bacterial images effectively. Intense experimental analyses are carried out to find the optimal complexity and to get better classification accuracy. The proposed model provides better results than human comprehension and other traditional machine learning approaches like random forest, support vector classifier, etc. The details of network architecture, regularization, and hyperparameter optimization techniques are also presented. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2021.

  • All-atomic and coarse-grained molecular dynamics investigation of deformation in semi-crystalline lamellar polyethylene
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Polymer. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0032-3861 .- 1873-2291. ; 153, s. 305-316
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the present work we have performed classical molecular dynamics modelling to investigate the effects of different types of force-fields on the stress-strain and yielding behaviours in semi-crystalline lamellar stacked linear polyethylene. To this end, specifically the all-atomic optimized potential for liquid simulations (OPLS-AA) and the coarse-grained united-atom (UA) force-fields are used to simulate the yielding and tensile behaviour for the lamellar separation mode. Despite that the considered samples and their topologies are identical for both approaches, the results show that they predict widely different stress-strain and yielding behaviours. For all UA simulations we obtain oscillating stress-strain curves accompanied by repetitive chain transport to the amorphous region, along with substantial chain slip and crystal reorientation. For the OPLS-AA modelling primarily cavitation formation is observed, with small amounts of chain slip to reorient the crystal such that the chains align in the tensile direction. This force-field dependence is rooted in the lack of explicit H-H and C-H repulsion in the UA approach, which gives rise to underestimated ideal critical resolved shear stress. The computed critical resolved shear stress for the OPLS-AA approach is in good agreement with density functional theory calculations and the yielding mechanisms resemble those of the lamellar separation mode. The disparate energy and shear stress barriers for chain slip of the different models can be interpreted as differently predicted intrinsic activation rates for the mechanism, which ultimately are responsible for the observed diverse responses of the two modelling approaches. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

  • Per Davidsson : recipient of the 2023 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Small Business Economics. - : Springer. - 0921-898X .- 1573-0913. ; 61:4, s. 1381-1390
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Professor Per Davidsson is the recipient of the 2023 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research. Throughout an extraordinarily productive career, he has made invaluable contributions in building the field of entrepreneurship. His early studies on entrepreneurship and culture and his studies on the growth of small businesses played an important role in the emergence and development of entrepreneurship as a scholarly field of research. He has also, continuously, made more conceptual contributions by critically probing the development of the field, and engaged in writing foundational books that have been used extensively in higher education institutes. By probing and challenging traditional assumptions throughout his career, he has contributed to the refinement and renewal of the field.
