  • Static WCET Analysis Based on Abstract Interpretation and Counting of Elements
  • 2010
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In a real-time system, it is crucial to ensure that all tasks of the system holdtheir deadlines. A missed deadline in a real-time system means that the systemhas not been able to function correctly. If the system is safety critical, this canlead to disaster. To ensure that all tasks keep their deadlines, the Worst-CaseExecution Time (WCET) of these tasks has to be known. This can be done bymeasuring the execution times of a task, however, this is inflexible, time consumingand in general not safe (i.e., the worst-casemight not be found). Unlessthe task is measured with all possible input combinations and configurations, which is in most cases out of the question, there is no way to guarantee that thelongest measured time actually corresponds to the real worst case.Static analysis analyses a safe model of the hardware together with thesource or object code of a program to derive an estimate of theWCET. This estimateis guaranteed to be equal to or greater than the real WCET. This is doneby making calculations which in all steps make sure that the time is exactlyor conservatively estimated. In many cases, however, the execution time of atask or a program is highly dependent on the given input. Thus, the estimatedworst case may correspond to some input or configuration which is rarely (ornever) used in practice. For such systems, where execution time is highly inputdependent, a more accurate timing analysis which take input into considerationis desired. In this thesis we present a framework based on abstract interpretation andcounting of possible semantic states of a program. This is a general methodof WCET analysis, which is language independent and platform independent. The two main applications of this framework are a loop bound analysis and aparametric analysis. The loop bound analysis can be used to quickly find upperbounds for loops in a program while the parametric framework provides aninput-dependent estimation of theWCET. The input-dependent estimation cangive much more accurate estimates if the input is known at run-time.

  • Tacit : A research journey into the methods, processes and knowledge of graphic designers
  • 2022
  • Konstnärligt arbete (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • By exploring the potential effects of digitisation on graphic design methods, this thesis aims to highlight some of the tacit knowledge possessed by graphic designers and to show that this knowledge can both be externalised and made communicable. Beginning with an interview study where professional designers’ views were gathered and analysed, the work continued through a participatory study where designers’ knowledge was highlighted in a documented design project. Finally, alternative ways of externalising knowledge were employed in an exhibition, displaying the creative outcomes of this thesis. The work shows that the hitherto largely hidden knowledge of graphic designers can be uncovered and made more communicable, strengthening designers’ professional identity and making the field more accessible to students. Furthermore, using versatile approaches in a design project can encourage conceptual development and even professional enjoyment, as well as increasing historical awareness.   The thesis uses an experimental approach to research method design and thus contributes to the development of graphic design research methodology. As such, in addition to expanding our understanding of graphic design knowledge, this work will enable a deeper exploration of methods, identity, and the definition of the profession’s taxonomy.

  • Managing stakeholder requirements in a product modelling system
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Computers in industry (Print). - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 0166-3615 .- 1872-6194. ; 57:2, s. 167-177
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In order to develop a well-balanced product, it is necessary to consider not only the customers, but also all the other stakeholders throughout the product's life cycle. A holistic view is needed in order to manage all criteria, considering as many perspectives and interests as possible. This paper presents a model that provides a common understanding for stakeholders involved, together with the requirements, functions and sub-systems of the product being developed. The model supports the decision-making process, and supports the designer to balance the interests of different stakeholders and the related functions. This results in a product developed according to all known demands from various stakeholders. This, in turn, will enhance the possibility of success in the market. The model has been applied in an industrial case study.

  • Musical Piloerection
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Music and Medicine. - : International Association for Music and Medicine. - 1943-8621 .- 1943-863X. ; 4:2, s. 82-89
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Piloerection (from the Latin pilus for hair) is a skin response which can be observed at many occasions among various species as a reaction to fear, aggression, or coldness. It is also a human response to music and in these cases a highly pleasurable one. Not everyone experiences it, and it is particularly difficult to evoke the reaction in experimental settings. We accidentally happened to catch a spontaneous distinct reaction with finger temperature, skin conductance, heart rate, and respiration. This allows us to study how these emotion correlates online with the music—the dynamics of the event. From this and recent articles, we discuss suggestions of how music causes piloerection.
