  • Travelling and Recontextualization of Discourses on Quality in Early Childhood Education and Care : A Meta-Ethnographic Investigation
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Oxford Ethnography and Education Conference 2023. ; , s. 1-1
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This article is a response to the need for comparative and critical studies of preschool as a local practice and examines the recontextualization of quality in Early childhood education and care. The aim of this meta-ethnographic study is to investigate how neoliberal policy discourses on quality are recontextualized and embedded in local early childhood and care institutional practices. A central concept in the analysis is recontextualization, and our pre-understanding of how neoliberal policy discourses are travelling and transformed from official to local policy that is embedded in the preschools’ work with quality as an institutional practice. The findings show how neoliberal policy discourses on quality is recontextualized, transformed and embedded in local institutional practices with different results and responses. The analysis uncovers three strategic, institutional responses as Enacting through acquiescence response, Defiance response as resistance and obfuscation of class, gender, and post-colonial perspective.

  • The use of Virtual Reality for needle-related procedural pain and distress in children and adolescents in a paediatric oncology unit.
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: European journal of oncology nursing : the official journal of European Oncology Nursing Society. - : Elsevier BV. - 1532-2122 .- 1462-3889. ; 13:2, s. 102-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: It is essential to minimize pain and distress during painful procedures in children. This study examined the effect of using non-immersive Virtual Reality (VR) during a needle-related procedure on reported pain or distress of children and adolescents in a paediatric oncology unit and surveyed their response to the use of VR-equipment during the procedure. METHOD: Twenty-one children and adolescents were included in an intervention group with non-immersive VR and another 21 children and adolescents in a control group where they underwent either venous punctures or subcutaneous venous port devices. Self-reported pain and distress, heart rate and observational pain scores were collected before, during and after the procedures. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted in conjunction with the completed intervention. RESULTS: Self-reported and observed pain and distress scores were low and few significant differences of quantitative data between the groups were found. Two themes emerged in the analysis of the interviews; the VR game should correspond to the child and the medical procedure and children enjoyed the VR game and found that it did distract them during the procedure. CONCLUSION: The interviews showed that non-immersive VR is a positive experience for children undergoing a minor procedure such as venous puncture or a subcutaneous venous port access.

  • Stereo vision for path correction in off-line programmed robot welding
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology. ; , s. 1700-1705
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper describes a versatile machine vision system for correcting off-line programmed nominal robot trajectories for advanced welding. Weld trajectory corrections are needed due to slight variations in weld joints. Such variations occur naturally because of varying tolerances in parts and to heat induced deformations during earlier weld sequences. The developed system uses one camera and a weld tool mounted on the robot hand. As a first step, the whole system, including the camera, is calibrated. Then the system takes images of the weld joint from different positions and orientations, and determines the weld joint geometry in 3D using a stereo vision algorithm and a novel camera model. The weld trajectory is then updated in the robot control system, and weld operation is performed. These steps are repeated for all weld sequences of the work piece. The strategy has successfully been demonstrated for a standard industrial welding robot and a standard FireWire CMOS camera. The maximum deviation of the trajectory found by the system compared to a reference (coordinate measuring machine) is 0.7 mm and the mean deviation is 0.23 mm. Thus, the system shows high potential for industrial implementation. ©2010 IEEE.

  • Exploring technostress in disruptive teaching practices
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Workplace Health Management. - 1753-8351 .- 1753-836X. ; 16:4, s. 328-343
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – In this study, the authors explore teachers’ experiences of work during the pandemic using the analytic lens of technostress. More specifically, the authors investigate how the sudden transition to distance education induces technostress among teachers in relation to their teaching practice.Design/methodology/approach – The data gathering method constitutes a questionnaire that exploreshow teachers’ work situation was affected by shifting to distance education. 286 Swedish teachers answered the open-ended questionnaire.Findings – The results demonstrate how technostress creators, technostress strains and teachers’ coping strategies are expressed in teaching practice during an extreme case of digitalization.Originality/value – The authors contribute to the work on technostress by suggesting the theoretical concept of “technorest” to shed light on alternative effects of the digitalization of work practice. Furthermore, the authors give examples of technorest creators which the authors term “techno-shields” and “techno-security”.The results could be interesting to enhance the understanding of the digitalization of work practices and cultivate a more favorable work situation
