- Experimenting is fundamental to the training process of all scientists and engineers. While experiments have been traditionally done inside laboratories, the emergence of Information and Communication Technologies added two alternatives accessible anytime, anywhere. These two alternatives are known as virtual and remote laboratories and are sometimes indistinguishably referred as online laboratories. Similarly to other instructional technologies, virtual and remote laboratories require some effort from teachers in integrating them into curricula, taking into consideration several factors that affect their adoption (i.e., cost) and their educational effectiveness (i.e., benefit). This chapter analyzes these two dimensions and sustains the case where only through international cooperation it is possible to serve the large number of teachers and students involved in engineering education. It presents an example in the area of electrical and electronics engineering, based on a remote laboratory named Virtual Instruments System in Reality, and it then describes how a number of European and Latin American institutions have been cooperating under the scope of an Erasmus+ project, for spreading its use in Brazil and Argentina.

- Chapter 10 discusses food security, which is emerging as a major cross-cutting issue in a changingArctic. The preliminary reflections presented in the chapter highlight that food security bringstogether concerns over a range of interacting environmental, social, economic, political andcultural changes. These include: food and water-borne diseases; increasing incidence of lifestylediseases; high costs of healthy foods; contamination; changing ecosystems that impede access tofood; high fuel costs; and loss of traditional knowledge. The chapter concludes that food security isintimately interlinked with social relations and cultural well-being.

- Though long admired for its Pharaonic stelae, shrines, and rock-cut temple, the grand ancient site of Gebel el Silsila remains fairly unknown withinmainstream archaeology. A general idea is that the site operated merely as a sandstone quarry, but few are aware of its rich archaeology thatincorporates evidence of millennia of human activity and cultural features that meet seven of UNESCO’s ten outstanding values. Since 2012 theSwedish-run archaeological project works towards changing previous misconceptions, and in conducting a comprehensive archaeological studythe aim is to increase the general awareness of the site’s importance and unique legacy. ‘In the footsteps of Ricardo Caminos’ is aimed to presentan introduction to previous work conducted within the ‘Speos of Horemheb’, how limitations of the past now can be bridged with more moderntechnology, and how the current team implement novel documentation and results to the field of epigraphy within one of Gebel el Silsila’s morefamous monuments. The results ultimately force back the chronology of the rock-cut temple from post-Amarna to the Thutmosid period

- Key findings:Most Arctic populations have experienced a transition towards more imported foods. The dietary transition has had adverse impacts on health in some populations, such as an increase in obesity or impaired dental status. Intakes of vitamin D and iodine have decreased due to lower fish and/or milk consumption. These nutrients should be monitored in Arctic populations. Positive health impacts of the dietary transition include significantly reduced levels of contaminants in the blood of pregnant women. Whether dietary transition is negative or positive for health depends on the composition of the new diet, as well as the extent to which the traditional diet is maintained. Communication about dietary risks and benefits is vital. Food insecurity is a growing concern in some Arctic populations and collaboration between countries should be established to address this. There are gaps in the research field of dietary studies within Arctic Indigenous populations. More studies are needed, especially within the many Arctic populations in Russia

- This paper presents two case studies that suggest how to adapt Scrum for user-centered design (UCD) focused industrial projects and how to work with UCD in Scrum software development teams. The objective of the paper is to share insights gained from running such combined projects in industry in order to help others avoid some of the pitfalls associated with this way of working. There has been much published in this area within the research community. However, our work presents both perspectives: adapting a UCD way of working towards a Scrum way of working; and adapting Scrum for running projects from a UCD perspective. We explore the impact Scrum had on team members’ work-practices during a project life-cycle and what lessons were learned from our experiences.
