  • Analysis and development of hydro power research : synthesis within Swedish Hydro Power Centre
  • 2010
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The market for hydropower re-investments in Sweden is approx 2.5 billion SEK/yr the coming decade. Large investments will also be carried out in Swedish tailing dams. This will result in challenging projects and need of experts. A crucial factor for a successful management of these challenges is the supply of engineers and researchers with hydro power and dam skills and knowledge. Swedish Hydro Power Centre (Svenskt vattenkraftcentrum, SVC) is a competence centre for university education and research environments within hydro power and mining dams. SVC comprises of two knowledge areas: Hydraulic Engineering and Hydro Turbines and Generators, respectively. SVC builds high-quality and long term sustainable knowledge at selected universities...

  • Characterization of a continuous supermacroporous monolithic matrix for chromatographic separation of large bioparticles
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Biotechnology and Bioengineering. - : Wiley. - 1097-0290 .- 0006-3592. ; 88:2, s. 224-236
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A continuous supermacroporous monolithic chromatographic matrix has been characterized using a capillary model, experimental breakthrough curves, and pressure drop experiments. The model describes the convective flow and its dispersive mixing effects, mass transfer resistance, pore size distribution, and the adsorption behavior of the monolithic matrix. It is possible to determine an effective pore size distribution by fitting the capillary model to experimental breakthrough curves and pressure drop experiments. The model is able to describe the flow rate dependence of the experimental breakthrough curves. Mass transport resistance was due to: (i) dispersive mixing effects in the convective flow in the pores; and (ii) slow diffusion in the stagnant film covering the surface within each pore, under adsorption conditions. The monolithic matrix can be described by a very narrow pore size distribution, illustrating one of the advantages of the gel. A broader pore size distribution results in increased band broadening. This can be studied easily using the model developed in this investigation. (C) 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

  • Requirements management in practice: findings from an empirical study in the automotive industry
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Research in Engineering Design. ; 17:3, s. 113-134
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents an empirical study carried out in the automotive industry, with the aim to bring forward new experiences and knowledge on management of requirements in practice. Adopting a qualitative systems approach, and using multiple information sources, the requirements management process during the development of a passenger car cockpit has been mapped out. More specifically, the intention has been to identify and describe progress, changes, deviations, and compromises regarding the requirements and their fulfilment linked to the different phases of the product development. The logical reconstruction of the requirements management process is complemented with broad descriptions of associated phenomena, such as important events, organisational structures, competences, and attitudes. Findings are presented, analysed and discussed considering also factors underlying observed phenomena. Accompanying the empirical findings, the paper concludes with recommendations for constructive and efficient requirements management in practice.

  • Piezoresistive performance of long-fiber composites with carbon nanotube doped matrix
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Intelligent Materials Systems and Structures. - 1045-389X .- 1530-8138. ; 20:9, s. 1017-1023
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The electrical and mechanical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) doped epoxy resin and composites based on this matrix were studied. The investigation was carried out on neat nanocomposites and on structural composites i.e., when the nanocomposite is used as matrix in composite materials reinforced with long continuous fibers. Tensile tests showed that CNT doped epoxy exhibited clear piezoresistive behavior. It was, however, also shown that geometrical changes of the specimen also contribute significantly to resistance changes during tensile loading. Particular effort was made to establish the relations between transverse cracking in glass fiber cross-ply laminates with nanotube doped matrix and changes of electrical resistance. It was shown that changes of electrical resistance during tensile loading of composites containing CNT doped matrix gives highly relevant information about the damage state of the material. In an unloaded state the resistance change is proportional to the relative change of stiffness. This work demonstrates that there are three different mechanisms, which contribute to changes of electrical resistance of a composite specimen subjected to tensile strain. These three mechanisms are: (a) geometrical changes of the specimen (b) piezoresistive material response, and (c) accumulation of micro-damage.

  • Strain and damage sensing during loading of carbon nanotube doped composites
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: ICCM International Conferences on Composite Materials. - London : IOM Communications.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work explores the possibility to use resistance changes in a carbon nanotube (CNT) doped composites to monitor deformations and damage. Most other studies in the field are done on simplified uniaxial loading whereas current work also evaluates the possibilities to monitor strain in more complex loading case, such as bending.

  • Pedestrian Detection using Augmented Training Data
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - International Conference on Pattern Recognition. - 1051-4651. - 9781479952083 ; , s. 4548-4553
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Detecting pedestrians is a challenging and widely explored problem in computer vision. Many approaches rely on large quantities of manually labelled training data to learn apedestrian classifier. To reduce the need for collecting and manually labelling real image training data, this paper investigates the possibility to use augmented images to train a pedestrian classifier. Augmented images are generated by rendering virtual pedestrians onto real image backgrounds. Classifiers learned from real or augmented training data are evaluated on real image test data from the widely used Daimler Mono Pedestrian benchmark data set. Results show that augmented training data generated from a single 200 frame image sequence reach 70% average detection rate at one False Positives Per Image (FPPI), compared to 81% for a classifier trained by a large-scale real data set. Results also show that complementing real training data withaugmented data improves detection performance, compared tousing real training data only.
