- The overall purpose of the dissertation is to identify discourses in law education at the upper secondary level. The studies include an analytical separation of epistemic, predefined knowledge from non-epistemic, moral meaning making. The studies are focused on the meaningful utterances about purposes, content and teaching methods that may be identified in previous research, curricula, teachers’ speech, textbooks and students’ final papers. The dissertation takes its departure in both legal and didactic theory. Theories offered by philosophy of law and sociology of law concerning the relationship between law and morality are of particular interest, along with curriculum theory and pragmatism. Pragmatic discourse analysis has been operationalized for the analyzes. The method starts with the identification and analyzes of meaningful utterances, which are synthesized into discourses. The method ends with reflection on conceivable consequences of the identified discourses. Five discourses about purposes of law education at the upper secondary level have been identified: (1) The social science discourse, (2) The private utility discourse, (3) The academic discourse, (4) The discourse about business purposes, and (5) The criminological discourse. A possible consequence of the most prominent academic and social science discourses is teaching in accordance with the progressivist and reconstructivist educational philosophies. Furthermore, a comprehensive central content in the syllabi for law in Gy11 means a re-establishment of the essentialist philosophy of education. Construction of the subject content in law by a model from sociology of law could make it possible to explicitly relate epistemic knowledge about legal problem-solving to non-epistemic moral meaning making. The model is based om different perspectives on legal questions, both legal and societal norms and practices.

- Ingen har betytt så mycket för bilden av den svenska stormakten, dess städer och slott, som Erik Dahlbergh, Han påbörjade 1661 det svindlande projektet att avbilda sevärdheter från alla delar av Sverige. Den ambitiösa satsningen resulterade i verket Suecia antiqua et hodierna, "Det forna och nuvarande Sverige", med en stor mängd planscher som återutgivits under århundraden. Länge ansågs verket framställa Sverige som mer storslaget än det faktiskt var. Men hur är det egentligen med överdrifterna? Och vilka är människorna som rör sig i slottsmiljöerna? Vad kan vi från bilderna utläsa om livet i den svenska stormakten? Konsthistorikerna Börje Magnusson och historikern Jonas Nordin går på en fascinerande upptäcktsfärd i 1600-talets Sverige.

- Till minne av Karl XI:s trontillträde 1672 utgavs planschverket Certamen equestre ett unikt projekt i svensk bokproduktion och ett arbete som bättre än något annat belyser barockens ceremoniel och hovfester. Sviten om sextiotvå kopparstick utges nu i sin helhet med fyllig och rikt illustrerad kommentar i en exklusiv faksimilutgåva. Initiativtagare var hovmålaren David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl och avsikten var att visa fram det svenska stormaktsväldets högtsträvande ambitioner. Verket förmedlar en detaljerad dokumentation Karl XI:s karusell och dess deltagare där den skimrande prakten och storslagna iscensättningen framträder med enastående grafisk skärpa. Historikern Jonas Nordin belyser ingående den europeiska bakgrunden och förklarar ceremonielets innebörd samt redogör för verkets utgivningshistoria. Certamen equestre kom att bli ensamt i sitt slag i Sverige och dess betydelse i samtiden var stor. För eftervärlden utgör det en unik källa till kunskap om den svenska stormakten och dess riter.

Ett fattigt men fritt folk : nationell och politisk självbild i Sverige från sen stormaktstid till slutet av frihetstiden

- This study deals with questions about national identity and national consciousness in Sweden from the middle of the 17th to the second half of the 18th century. Two embracing hypotheses have guided the inquiry. The first proposes that a clearly distinguishable national sentiment existed in Sweden already by the middle of the 17th century. The second proposes that the rulers tried to encourage and distribute this national consciousness to the lower echelons of society in order to obtain a less arbitrary rule over the subjects. The core of the investigation consists of five thematically and chronologically supplementing studies (chapters 2–6) that seeks to confirm these hypotheses.Chapter 1 defines the problem and outlines methodological and theoretical themes. Chapter 2 examines the composition of the Swedish empire during the Age of Greatness, the Crown's integration policy towards its foreign provinces, as well as the subjects' personal bonds to the Crown before the birth of modern citizenship. Chapter 3 investigates the national rethoric of Swedish propaganda during the Great Nordic War. Chapter 4 is mainly concentrated on the 18th century and investigates what content was given to the Swedish national character in a cultural and scholarly context. Chapter 5 examines the same topics with regard to the Finns as subjects of the Swedish realm. This chapter also surveys official and semi-official attitudes towards the 'Lapps' (Samis). Chapter 6 examines the political use of concepts such as patriotism and love of the Fatherland, first in a scholarly and theoretical context, and secondly in the vivid parliamental debates about civil rights that concluded the Age of Liberty. The last chapter summarizes the case studies and interprets the results in relation to dominant theoretical conceptions regarding nationalism. In this context it is argued that the national sentiments and the political use that was made of them during the period under investigation only differed in a quantitative, though not in a qualitative way from nationalist ideologies of the 19th century.

- Vad hade monarkin för funktion när monarken inte hade någon? Efter Karl XII:s död upphävdes enväldet och Sveriges konung reducerades till närmast en symbolgestalt. Monarkin fortsatte dock att vara en oumbärlig del av statsskicket. I denna bok utreds konungens roll i frihetstidens politik, här berättas vilken bild av regenten som förmedlades genom tidens informationskanaler och här klargörs vilka tankar vanliga undersåtar hyste om monarken.Med hjälp av ett varierande källmaterial och tidigare opublicerade bilder beskrivs en tid då konungarnas inflytande drastiskt minskades.Namnstämpeln har gått till eftervärlden som den yttersta symbolen för konungens maktlöshet, men det hör till frihetstidens många paradoxer att den i själva verket togs till för att rädda monarkin. Samtidigt som monarkins reella makt kringskars ökade dess symboliska betydelse och offentliga genomslag. Undersåtarna fick veta mer om regenternas offentliga och privata liv än någonsin tidigare och epoken såg några av de mest påkostade kungliga ceremonierna i Sveriges historia.
