  • Reduced genetic diversity and low effective size in peripheral northern European catfish Silurus glanis populations
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Fish Biology. - : Wiley. - 0022-1112 .- 1095-8649. ; 95:6, s. 1407-1421
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using 10 polymorphic microsatellites and 1251 individual samples (some dating back to the early 1980s), genetic structure and effective population size in all native and introduced Swedish populations of the European wels catfish or Silurus glanis were studied. Levels of genetic variability and phylogeographic relationships were compared with data from a previous study of populations in other parts of Europe. The genetically distinct Swedish populations displayed comparably low levels of genetic variability and according to one-sample estimates based on linkage disequilibrium and sib ship-reconstruction, current local effective population sizes were lower than minimum levels recommended for short-term genetic conservation. In line with a previous suggestion of postglacial colonisation from a single refugium, all Swedish populations were assembled on a common branch in a star-shaped dendrogram together with other European populations. Two distinct subpopulations were detected in upper and lower habitats of River Emån, indicating that even minor dispersal barriers may restrict gene flow for wels in running waters. Genetic assignment of specimens encountered in the brackish Baltic Sea and in lakes where the species does not occur naturally indicated presence of long-distance sea dispersal and confirmed unauthorised translocations, respectively.

  • Single-molecule linewidths of terrylene in incommensurate biphenyl: Thermocycling and time-resolved experiments
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Luminescence. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-2313. ; 127:1, s. 218-223
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purely electronic linewidth delta of terrylene impurity molecules in monocrystalline biphenyl is studied at temperatures T between 1.7 and 3.5 K using the technique of single-molecule spectroscopy (SMS). Based on the data obtained, individual molecules appear to have their own law of delta(T) dependence; further, hysteresis effects have been observed in thermocycling experiments. The single-molecule (SM) lines investigated quickly broaden and vanish at temperatures between 3 and 3.5 K and reappear after the sample is cooled down again. At T approximate to 2 K, a slow process of spectral diffusion (SD) was observed on timescales longer than 10s. To learn about the role of faster SD processes, the technique of intensity time-frequency correlation (ITFC) SMS was applied to a stable SM line after it had been broadened by 75% as a result of a thermocycling experiment. At 2 and 2.3 K, no significant line broadening could be revealed on timescales between 0.16 ms and 10s. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Launching the Mission for 100 Climate Neutral Cities in Europe : Characteristics, Critiques, and Challenges
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Sustainable Cities. - Lausanne, Switzerland : Frontiers Research Foundation. - 2624-9634. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this perspective article is to critically explore the launch of the mission for 100 climate neutral cities in Europe. An overview of the mission approach in general is first presented, where key aspects and emerging critiques are identified. Second, key elements of the mission for 100 climate neutral cities in Europe are introduced along with some of its challenges and ambiguities. This perspective article ends with highlighting key emerging questions from the report “100 Climate Neutral Cities by 2030 – by and for the citizens” where research and practice need to engage to support municipalities and urban actors in efforts on climate neutrality and help to better navigate toward radical social and technical transformation. This perspective article also proposes two approaches for inclusive participation of citizens and stakeholders that can contribute to the local implementation of the mission for 100 climate neutral cities.

  • EPR-systems and new business models. Part II: Policy packages to increase reuse and recycling of textiles in the Nordic region
  • 2015
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Abstract in ArabicThis report is the primary outcome from Part II of the project “An extended producer responsibility (EPR) system and new business models to increase reuse and recycling of textiles in the Nordic region” initiated by the Nordic waste group (NAG). The full project – comprising Part I and II – is part of the Nordic Prime Minister’s green growth initiative, The Nordic Region – leading in green growth. The aim of the Part II of the project is to propose three packages of policy instruments for EPR systems and business models based on lessons learned in Part I of the project. Further, the aim is to assess the potential of the different EPR systems and business models in terms of critical factors, risks and synergies. It has been carried out through a combination of literature studies and consultation with key stakeholders.
