  • Multi-Touch Table System for Medical Visualization
  • 2015
  • In: Eurographics 2015. - : Eurographics - European Association for Computer Graphics.
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Medical imaging plays a central role in a vast range of healthcare practices. While the usefulness of 3D visualizations is well known, the adoption of such technology has previously been limited in many medical areas. This paper, awarded the Dirk Bartz Prize for Visual Computing in Medicine 2015, describes the development of a medical multi-touch visualization table that successfully has reached its aim to bring 3D visualization to a wider clinical audience. The descriptions summarize the targeted clinical scenarios, the key characteristics of the system, and the user feedback obtained.

  • Qualitative Risk Analysis of Dangerous Goods with Alternative Propellants
  • 2016
  • In: Proceedings from the 4th International Conference on Fire in Vehicles - FIVE 2016. ; , s. 247-248
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This qualitative risk analysis of dangerous goods transports with alternative propellants was ordered by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). Scenario combinations consisted of five alternative fuels, six accident scenarios and five types of dangerous goods cargo. The alternative fuels were: methane, hydrogen, ethanol, methanol and dimethyl ether. The accident scenarios consisted of refuelling, fire in tire or engine, tunnel accident, road collision and sabotage of fuel tank. The dangerous goods were limited to: ammonium nitrate, petrol/diesel, methane, ethyl chloride, and EX/II cargo as defined in the ADR regulation. The main identified risks are due to the risk of pressure vessel explosion of gaseous fuels as it: 1) Threatens to detonate explosive load or ammonium nitrate. 2) Cause rescue service to take a defensive approach which will lead to larger consequences. Since there are sustainable liquid fuel alternatives such as bio diesel, this may be a better choice for dangerous goods transportation.

  • Programmable Signatures
  • 2015
  • In: Trends in Functional Programming.
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • When compiling EDSLs into other languages, types in the source language must be translated into corresponding types in the target language. The translation is often driven by a small set of rules that map a single type in the source language into a single type in the target language. However, this simple approach is limiting when there are multiple possible mappings, and it may lead to poor interoperability and performance in the generated code. Instead of hard-wiring a single set of translation rules into a compiler, this paper introduces a small language that lets the programmer describe the mapping of each argument and function separately.

  • Fabrication of Suspended All-Metal Sensor Elements in Ceramic Laminates
  • 2016
  • In: Proc. of Micronano System Workshop 2016, Lund, Sweden, May 17-18, 2016.
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • To target a wide range of high-temperature applications [1-4], the Ångström Space Technology Centre has added High-Temperature Co-fired Ceramics, HTTC, technology to its repertoire. Usually, this technology follows a processing scheme where thin sheets of green-body ceramics are metallized through screen printing and structured by embossing, punching or milling, before they are laminated and sintered to form components. A limitation with this, is the difficulty of realizing freely suspended metal structures, which is a disadvantage in, e.g., the fabrication of calorimetric sensors or electric field probes. In this work, the embedding of platinum wires in HTCC is explored experimentally, and demonstrated for use in pressure and plasma I-V sensing.

  • Efficient Monadic Streams
  • 2015
  • In: Trends in Functional Programming.
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Functional stream representations allow for a high-level, compositional way of programming digital signal processing algorithms. However, some algorithms, such as filters, cannot be efficiently implemented using purely functional techniques, due to excessive copying of data. We present a monadic representation of streams which introduces the ability to use mutation for efficiency when implementing algorithms. Still, our representation enjoys many of the benefits of purely functional streams, such as a functional API and fusion. Our representation enables further optimizations: we show how to remove duplicate loop variables, and how to keep buffers entirely in references. Our measurements show that the new monadic representation consistently outperforms the functional representation by at least a factor of four when evaluated in the context of the Feldspar embedded DSL.
