  • Predicting bee community responses to land-use changes : effects of geographic and taxonomic biases
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 2045-2322. ; 6, s. 1-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Land-use change and intensification threaten bee populations worldwide, imperilling pollination services. Global models are needed to better characterise, project, and mitigate bees' responses to these human impacts. The available data are, however, geographically and taxonomically unrepresentative; most data are from North America and Western Europe, overrepresenting bumblebees and raising concerns that model results may not be generalizable to other regions and taxa. To assess whether the geographic and taxonomic biases of data could undermine effectiveness of models for conservation policy, we have collated from the published literature a global dataset of bee diversity at sites facing land-use change and intensification, and assess whether bee responses to these pressures vary across 11 regions (Western, Northern, Eastern and Southern Europe; North, Central and South America; Australia and New Zealand; South East Asia; Middle and Southern Africa) and between bumblebees and other bees. Our analyses highlight strong regionally-based responses of total abundance, species richness and Simpson's diversity to land use, caused by variation in the sensitivity of species and potentially in the nature of threats. These results suggest that global extrapolation of models based on geographically and taxonomically restricted data may underestimate the true uncertainty, increasing the risk of ecological surprises.

  • Essentials of teamcare in randomized controlled trials of multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary interventions in somatic care : A systematic review
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Open Journal of Nursing. - : Scientific Research Publishing. - 2162-5336 .- 2162-5344. ; 5:12, s. 1089-1101
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Teamcare should, like all patient care, also contribute to evidence-based practice (EBP). Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focusing on teamcare have been performed but no study has addressed its essentials. How far this EBP has progressed in different health aspects is generally established in systematic reviews of RCTs.Aim: The aim is to determine the essentials of teamcare including the nurse profession in RCTs of multi- or interdisciplinary interventions in somatic care focusing on the stated context, goals, strategies, content as well as effectiveness of quality of care. Methods: A systematic review was performed according to Cochrane review assumptions to identify, appraise and synthesize all empirical evidence meeting pre-specified eligibility criteria. The PRISMA statement guided the data selection process of 27 articles from PubMed and CINAHL.Results: Eighty-five percent of RCTs in somatic care showed a positive effectiveness of teamcare interventions, of which interdisciplinary ones showed a greater effectiveness compared with the multidisciplinary approach (100% vs 76%). Also theory-based RCTs presented higher positive effectiveness (85%) compared with non-theory-based RCTs (79%). The RCTs with positive effectiveness showed greater levels for professional-centered ambition in terms of goals and for team-directed initiatives in terms of strategy, and a significantly higher level for patient-team interaction plans in terms of content was shown. Conclusions: Teamcare RCTs are still grounded in the multidisciplinary approach having a professional-centered ambition while interdisciplinary approaches especially those that are theory-based appear to be essential with regard to positive effectiveness and preferable when person-centered careis applied.

  • The database of the PREDICTS (Projecting Responses of Ecological Diversity In Changing Terrestrial Systems) project
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Ecology and Evolution. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2045-7758. ; 7:1, s. 145-188
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The PREDICTS project-Projecting Responses of Ecological Diversity In Changing Terrestrial Systems (www.predicts.org.uk)-has collated from published studies a large, reasonably representative database of comparable samples of biodiversity from multiple sites that differ in the nature or intensity of human impacts relating to land use. We have used this evidence base to develop global and regional statistical models of how local biodiversity responds to these measures. We describe and make freely available this 2016 release of the database, containing more than 3.2 million records sampled at over 26,000 locations and representing over 47,000 species. We outline how the database can help in answering a range of questions in ecology and conservation biology. To our knowledge, this is the largest and most geographically and taxonomically representative database of spatial comparisons of biodiversity that has been collated to date; it will be useful to researchers and international efforts wishing to model and understand the global status of biodiversity.

  • Impact testing of high-density polyethylene structure
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Impact Engineering. - : Elsevier. - 0734-743X .- 1879-3509. ; 192
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High strain -rate testing of high -density polyethylene is the focus of the present work. This testing is accomplished by two types of experimental testing: uniaxial tensile testing using standard testing technique, and impact testing of a 3D structure with non -trivial geometry. Both the uniaxial tests and the impact tests were evaluated using a material model suited for rate -dependent inelasticity of polymers that has been developed. In the uniaxial tensile tests, a maximum strain -rate of about 28/s was attained. In the impact tests, strain -rates of the order of 100/s and beyond were predicted in the analyses. The impact tests were simulated and analysed by use of finite element simulations. Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analyses were employed for some of the tests where there was an interaction between the compressed structure and air trapped inside it. Overall, the simulations were able to reproduce the outcome from the experiments well. In particular, the deformation scenarios in the impact tests for different loading situations could be reproduced.

  • A Systematic Approach to Robust Preconditioning for Gradient Based Inverse Scattering Algorithms
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Inverse Problems. - : IOP Publishing. - 1361-6420 .- 0266-5611. ; 24:2, s. 025027-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a systematic approach to robust preconditioning for gradient-based nonlinear inverse scattering algorithms. In particular, one- and two-dimensional inverse problems are considered where the permittivity and conductivity profiles are unknown and the input data consist of the scattered field over a certain bandwidth. A time-domain least-squares formulation is employed and the inversion algorithm is based on a conjugate gradient or quasi-Newton algorithm together with an FDTD-electromagnetic solver. A Fisher information analysis is used to estimate the Hessian of the error functional. A robust preconditioner is then obtained by incorporating a parameter scaling such that the scaled Fisher information has a unit diagonal. By improving the conditioning of the Hessian, the convergence rate of the conjugate gradient or quasi-Newton methods are improved. The preconditioner is robust in the sense that the scaling, i.e. the diagonal Fisher information, is virtually invariant to the numerical resolution and the discretization model that is employed. Numerical examples of image reconstruction are included to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed technique. © 2008 IOP Publishing Ltd.

  • "We are already person-centred in our practice"-A Qualitative Study of Ambulance Clinicians' Experiences of Person-Centred Care
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Healthcare. - : MDPI. - 2227-9032. ; 7:4, s. 1-12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The concept of person-centred care (PCC) is considered one of the core competencies in Swedish healthcare. It has increasingly spread and involves treating the patient as a person who is decision-competent and part of the team. The PCC concept has been introduced in the Swedish Ambulance Service setting, but as there has been no previous research on PCC in this context, the aim of the present study was to illuminate ambulance clinicians' experiences of the introduction of PCC in a Swedish Ambulance Service setting. Data collection took the form of interviews with 15 ambulance clinicians in the southernmost part of Sweden. Qualitative content analysis was employed to analyse the interviews, wherein two categories emerged: organisational perspective and contextual culture. The latent meaning was interpreted as the theme: Seeing the individual in need of care as a person instead of a patient. In conclusion, the concept of PCC was considered a barrier and there was some resistance to its introduction. While PCC enhanced the ambulance clinicians' stance, e.g., when initiating a caring relationship and encouraging the patient to participate in her/his care, it was also described as a catchphrase that is not applicable to the Ambulance Service as it contributes nothing new to the standard of treatment.
