  • Skånes humlor
  • 2019
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract

  • Boundary-induced phase in epitaxial iron layers
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We report the discovery of a boundary-induced body-centered tetragonal (bct) iron phase in thin films deposited on MgAl2O4 (001) substrates. We present evidence for this phase using detailed x-ray analysis and ab-initio density functional theory calculations. A lower magnetic moment and a rotation of the easy magnetisation direction are observed, as compared to body-centered cubic (bcc) iron. Our findings expand the range of known crystal and magnetic phases of iron, providing valuable insights for the development of heterostructure devices using ultra-thin iron layers.

  • Special issue: Culture on the move
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Educare. - 1653-1868. ; :1
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This special issue consists of five position papers, four articles and two essays covering diverse aspects of the theme Culture on the Move that foregrounds language and literature both as pedagogical tools and disciplinary fields necessary for learning to live and work in a culturally diverse world. The contributions stem from the initial activities within the graduate school “Culturally Empowering Education through Language and Literature” (CuEEd-LL). Centre-staging teaching and learning in Swedish education, the texts in this issue present a range of inroads into how language and literature can be used to support cultural diversity among pupils, students and teachers since cultural diversity is steadily gaining attention both as a resource and a challenge in education and society.

  • The nitrosoamine dephostatin interacts with nitric oxide/cGMP signalling and modulates cytosolic calcium responses in human platelets
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • 1 The effects of the nitrosoamine dephostatin on cytosolic Ca2+ and nitric oxide (NO)/cGMP signallings in human platelets were investigated.2 Dephostatin has been characterised as a protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) inhibitor, and may on that account affect platelet responses. However, western blot analysis revealed that dephostatin (1-100 µM) did not increase tyrosine-specific protein phosphorylation.3 Dephostatin dose-dependently (0.003-3 µM) inhibited thrombin-, thrombin-receptor activating peptide-, and ADP-stimulated rises in cytosolic free Ca2+ concentration, [Ca2+]i. in fura-2-loaded platelets. Surprisingly, higher doses of dephostatin (10-30 µM) augmented thrombin-triggered Ca2+ response. This dual action of dephostatin mainly involved modulation of Ca2+ influx.4 The results revealed that dephostatin antagonised NO/cGMP- and prostaglandin E1/cAMP-mediated inhibition of [Ca2+]1. The action of the thrornbin-neutralising peptide hirudin was, however, unaffected.5 Dephostatin did not affect basal or NO-mediated rises in platelet cGMP content. On the other hand, dephostatin alone directly increased the phosphorylation of ser239 on vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) and markedly enhanced NO/cGMP-dependent VASP phosphorylation.6 Cell functional studies revealed that dephostatin amplified NO-induced inhibition of platelet aggregation. Opposite to that, dephostatin diminished the inhibitory action of NO on phosphatidylserine exposure.7 In conclusion, the results revealed that dephostatin affects a wide range of mechanisms involved in Ca2+ homeostasis in platelets. These effects are apparently not due to inhibition of PTPs. However, enhancement of VASP phosphorylation represents another important molecular mechanism of dephostatin. Considering NO signalling, the results indicate that dephostatin may be an excellent tool when elucidating the relative importance of inhibition of Ca2+ versus VASP phosphorylation.

  • Contemporary perspectives on the vikings
  • 2023
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Portrayals of Vikings in literature and the media are rarely based on historical fact, but sometimes this can make them even more interesting. Their image and behaviour often mirror very contemporary issues, and can even help us to play with and understand diverse and conflicting issues in society. Research shows this can include such dichotomies as strength/vulnerability, traditional views of femininity/masculinity, reality/fantasy and many more.

  • Costumes and Wallhanging
  • 2009
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This work deals with Smart Textiles in interaction with the body. We design textiles and outfits as tools that can influence fashion and textile design. Central to our work is that artistic envisioning can point to new possibilities and values, in which we want to stress the importance of combining traditional materials and methods with contemporary and future functions in order to obtain sustainable ideas. The film documents a performance, where dancers create a link between the body, the textile material and the room surrounding the body. The textile material and the garment are to inspire movement that, in turn, creates development; when a person wears the garment and moves in a certain way or touches other persons, the visual expression of the room changes through an electronic signal. In this case, the colour of the pattern of the textile draping changes to the static pattern that is printed on the person’s outfit. The point of the show was to show possibilities of non-static and dynamic design through scenic expression.

  • Textile Dimensions
  • 2008
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this project we create a link between body, textile material and space. Textiles and garments shall inspire to motion that generates variability. When a body moves through a space, touches other bodies and parts of its garment, it affects the visual expression in the room. More specifically the background changes and adapts partially to the pattern of the garments. The base for our investigation is to perform artistic work with the expression of set design in the centre, that shows the possibilities, matters and values of fashion and textile design beyond the traditional boundaries. The tapestry is weawed in cotton, steel and wool. Print in heat sensitive pigment (supplier Variotherm Zenit Konsthantverk AB). The dresses are knitted in cotton and silverthreads. Acknowledgements: The burn-out experiments were made at IFP Research in Borås. The knitted samples and the tablecloth were made together with Tommy Martinsson and Folke Sandvik at the knitting department at the Swedish School of Textiles, University College of Borås.
