  • Anisotropic photoemission time delays close to a Fano resonance
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electron correlation and multielectron effects are fundamental interactions that govern many physical and chemical processes in atomic, molecular and solid state systems. The process of autoionization, induced by resonant excitation of electrons into discrete states present in the spectral continuum of atomic and molecular targets, is mediated by electron correlation. Here we investigate the attosecond photoemission dynamics in argon in the 20-40 eV spectral range, in the vicinity of the 3s(-1)np autoionizing resonances. We present measurements of the differential photoionization cross section and extract energy and angle-dependent atomic time delays with an attosecond interferometric method. With the support of a theoretical model, we are able to attribute a large part of the measured time delay anisotropy to the presence of autoionizing resonances, which not only distort the phase of the emitted photoelectron wave packet but also introduce an angular dependence.

  • Long-Term Outcome and MGMT as a Predictive Marker in 24 Patients With Atypical Pituitary Adenomas and Pituitary Carcinomas Given Treatment With Temozolomide
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. - : The Endocrine Society. - 0021-972X .- 1945-7197. ; 100:4, s. 1689-1698
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Context/Objective: Locally aggressive pituitary tumors (LAPT) and pituitary carcinomas respond poorly to conventional therapy and cytotoxic drugs. Temozolomide (TMZ) is an oral alkylating drug with good tolerability, approved for treatment of malignant gliomas. The experience of its use in pituitary tumors is limited. Design and Setting: We report on 24 patients with aggressive pituitary tumors (16 LAPTs, 8 carcinomas) treated with TMZ for a median of 6 months (range 1-23). Follow-up ranged from 4 to 91 months with a median of 32.5 months. 19/24 tumors were hormone secreting (PRL 9, ACTH 4, GH 4, GH/PRL 2). Ki-67 was 2-50% in LAPTs, and 5-80% in carcinomas. Main Outcome: Response to TMZ and the association with tumor expression of O6-methylguanine DNA methyltransferase (MGMT), MLH1, MSH2, and MSH6, examined by immunohistochemistry. Results: Complete tumor regression occurred in two carcinomas and persisted at follow-up after 48 and 91 months, respectively. Partial regress of tumor mass ranging from 35% to 80% occurred in 5 LAPTs and 2 carcinomas. Another patient with LAPT had a 71% decrease in prolactin levels without change in tumor volume. Three LAPTs could not be evaluated. Median MGMT staining was 9% (5-20%) in responders vs 93% (50-100%) in nonresponders. Loss of MSH2 and MSH 6 was observed in a single patient who had a rapid development of resistance to TMZ. Conclusions: This study shows that TMZ is a valuable treatment option for patients with uncontrolled pituitary tumors. The data suggest that tumoral MGMT staining below 50% is associated with a high likelihood of treatment response.

  • Using social-ecological syndromes to understand impacts of international seafood trade on small-scale fisheries
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Global Environmental Change. - : Elsevier BV. - 0959-3780 .- 1872-9495. ; 35, s. 162-175
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Globalization has increased the speed and flow of people, information, and commodities across space, integrating markets and increasing interdependence of geographically dispersed places worldwide. Places historically driven by largely local forces and market demands are now increasingly affected by drivers at multiple scales. Trade is particularly important in driving these changes and more fish is now exported to international markets than ever before. When small-scale fisheries are integrated into global markets, local social-ecological systems change with potentially both positive and negative impacts on livelihoods, economics and ecology, but few studies systematically investigate how and why the outcomes of market integration vary from case to case. This paper systematically assesses multiple (social, ecological, economic and institutional) local effects of market integration in cases around the world by drawing on the global environmental change syndromes approach. Furthermore, we examine the factors contributing to the syndromes observed. Our analysis identifies three distinct social-ecological syndromes associated with international seafood trade. Results suggest that the presence of strong and well-enforced institutions is the principal factor behind the syndrome characterized by sustained fish stocks, while a combination of weak institutions, patron-client relationships, high demand from China and highly vulnerable target species explain the other two syndromes distinguished by declining stocks, conflict and debt among fishers. A key finding is that the factors emerging as important for explaining the different syndromes derive from different scales (e.g. local market structures vs distant market characteristics), indicating a need for multi-level governance approaches to deal with the effects of market integration. Furthermore, the meta-analysis shows that each syndrome encompasses fisheries from multiple continents. This suggests that the increasingly global nature of the seafood trade appears to be driving local dynamics by creating similar conditions for vulnerabilities in localities around the world, lending support to the notion of teleconnectivity across geographic space.

  • Body composition in patients with Alzheimer's disease and healthy controls
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical and Experimental Gerontology. - 0192-1193. ; 14:1, s. 17-31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In Alzheimer's disease (AD), decreased physical activity and nutritional problems are parts of the natural course with probable implications on body composition. Body fat and lean body mass were measured with a bioelectrical impedance method in 25 women who had AD according to the criteria of NINCDS- ADRDA and in 63 health age-matched controls. The patients with AD had 9.5 kg lower body weight (p<0.01), due to almost 4.0 kg lower body fat and 6.0 kg lower lean body mass (p<0.001). This might imply a higher risk for morbidity and mortality. Body weight and lean body mass decreased with age in AD patients but not in the healthy control women. In the control group, the unmarried women had more than 13 kg lower body weight and 9 kg lower body fat than the mean values of all other marital status groups (p<0.01). The maintenance of lean body mass in the very healthy old indicate the possibilities for physical activity.

  • Using tailored temperature variations to obtain flawless forming of multi-stacked unidirectional prepreg
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of composite materials. - : SAGE Publications Ltd. - 0021-9983 .- 1530-793X. ; 54:26, s. 3999-4009
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, tailored temperature zones are used to obtain improved quality during rapid, high pressure forming of multi-stacked unidirectional prepreg. Particularly in aerospace applications, commonly used forming processes for multi-stacked unidirectional prepreg are often considered a bottleneck in production since the forming cycle requires both heating and cooling ramps and consequently takes long time—often about 1 h. It is possible to speed up the process by using elevated pressure and temperature. However, higher pressure and temperature also increase the influence of pressure gradient-driven, in-plane material movement (squeeze flow). This typically appears as radius thinning when forming a C-spar geometry on a male mold. Decrease of lay-up temperature will decrease radius thinning, but due to obstructed interply slippage, instead bending-induced wrinkles appear on the spar flange. In this article, tailored temperatures at the radius and in the flange area are introduced by using a hot lay-up and a cold mold. The results show that temperature differences of 6℃–10℃ between the radius area and the flange edge of the lay-up decreases radius thinning while still avoiding bending-induced wrinkles. Except from the radius temperature also the stacking sequence and the choice of prepreg system showed a significant influence on the radius thinning.
