- This paper evaluates two methods of data processing that were used in a research project on the semantics of verbal morphology in Bantu languages. The programmes used were NVivo and Open Refine. The linguistic project, the purpose of which is to conduct a systematic morphological description and analysis of the verb, involves language data from six language varieties, all of which are under-described. The data were collected during field trips to central Tanzania where the language varieties are spoken. The purpose of this paper is, therefore, not to offer a grammatical analysis of the languages discussed, but rather to describe the investigative processes and the insights that emerged in the data managing process, in the hope that some of our experiences and the data management principles we suggest will be of use to researchers of other fields and languages.
