  • Application of the Sustainable Business Model Framework : Evidence from a Multinational Company
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Sustainable Development. - : European Center for Sustainable Development. - 2239-5938 .- 2239-6101. ; 12:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • All organizationsare unique, not least considering when and how certain sustainable business practices are initiated and managed. Organizations therefore need an instrument that is possible to adapt to allow for monitoring sustainability progress. In the Sustainable Business Model (SBM) framework, developed by the authors, the sustainability activities of stakeholders connected to the organizationare coded into a matrix formed of sustainability archetypes and value dimensions. The purpose of this paper is to describe how the SBM framework can be adapted and used for depicting sustainability activities and values annually and over time. In the example used to demonstrate the application of the framework an extra archetype had to be added, which resulted in a modification of the model. By analyzing the adapted and applied matrix, not only which archetypes have the most activity can be seen, but also which stakeholders are involved in initiating, delivering, and capturingof value. The contribution of the paper is to show the applicability and versatilityofthe developed SBM frameworkwhen used in practice.

  • Exploring the intra-organizational journey of a vague management concept through a translation theory lens
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 11th International Joint Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management. - : SciTePress. - 9789897583827 ; , s. 56-61
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the quest for change, management at times introduces vague management concepts in organizations. The use of such a concept instigates translation journeys, which may end in affecting an organizations competitive advantage. While performance outcomes of change are pertinent, it is the journey towards change that is emphasized here based on translation theory. This study explores the intra-organizational journey of the vague concept “knowledge platform” within a business school. The empirical data originates from 102 written documents dating from 2009 to 2018 produced by faculty and departmental levels. The data coding reveals six distinct subseries which together depicts how the knowledge platform passes through phases of de-contextualization and contextualization as it travels iteratively between the source and recipient contexts.

  • Promoting deep learning in Marketing Strategy through integration of a tri-sequel role play
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Paper presented at the Strategic Management Society 27th Annual Conference, Houston, USA, October 28-31, 2017. - : Strategic Management Society.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Marketing Strategy is by its nature difficult for students to grasp. The subject is abstract since the students most often have not yet encountered the ideas, processes and concept in their working life. One way to overcome this difficulty is to deploy active learning. We have in our course Cases in Marketing Strategy made use of the active learning technique of role play in order to make the concepts more fathomable for the students and also through deep learning have the students make them their own. In our experience of role play we have run into some obstacles, such as, reluctance to participate which we will discuss in this paper as well as suggest changes for improvement.

  • Promoting Deep Learning Through Integration of a Tri-sequel Role Play
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of International Business Education. - : Neilson Journals Publishing. - 1649-4946 .- 2044-4575. ; 16, s. 137-154
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Undergraduate students tend to struggle with courses offered in abstract fields such a Marketing Strategy, due to a lack of relevant work experience. As a consequence, the topic becomes difficult for students to comprehend. Based on a case study, this paper describes how the integration of the active learning technique of role play is used in an undergraduate course Cases in Marketing Strategy, in order to foster deep learning. Particular emphasis is placed on the seemingly overlooked area of role play progression. The role play setting is tri-sequel with a point of departure in three progressively more complex business cases for which empirical insight is available from three years of offering the course. Contributions include a discussion of progression on several levels within the sequential role play setting, and a role play model is offered as a tool for visualizing and analyzing sequential role play advancement in such courses. The paper is rounded off with recommendations for teachers in higher education that are interested in integrating sequential role play in abstract university courses.

  • The systematic sustainable business model (SBM) approach : A flexible organizational tool
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Creating New Roles for a Sustainable Economy. - Cham, Switzerland : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9783031615504 - 9783031615535 - 9783031615511 ; , s. 143-176
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Due to current environmental and societal changes there is a growing urgency in studying organizational conduct from a sustainability perspective. In this chapter the Systematic Sustainable Business Model (SBM) approach is devloped which allows for depicting to what extent an organization is involved in a variety of environmental, social, and economic sustainability related activities. Each sustainability activity is scrutinized against value being created, delivered, and captured. The understanding is that an organization simultaneously can be involved in sustainability activities that create, deliver and capture value for and with a variety of stakeholders, resulting in an intricate co-creation system of give-and-take and pay-it-forward. The presented Systematic SBM approach encompass a flexible organizational tool that allows for mapping of an organization´s sustainability conduct, following progress over time, and comparisons between different organizations.

  • Understanding deployment of sustainability business practices through a multi-stakeholder value approach
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Working Papers Series on Social Responsibility, Ethics and Sustainable Business. - Bucharest : ASE Publishing. ; , s. 14-15
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The general ambition of the paper is to contribute with insight on adoption of sustainable business practices undertaken by a company. This ambition coincides with the need for more research on business models for sustainability as this research area is in an initial phase of development. A sustainable business model (SBM) framework is presented consisting of 11 categories of sustainability approaches. These categories relate to environmental, social and economic sustainability. A three-dimensional value frame, specifying value creation, value delivery and value capture, is integrated with this SBM framework to form a matrix. This matrix allows for identifying different roles of various stakeholder groups (including the company itself) in relation to initiation, delivery, and capture of value concerning the categories of sustainability approaches. Based on this the purpose of the study is to extend the understanding of how a company can initiate, deliver, and capture value for and with stakeholders within the scope of a sustainable business model (SBM). Inter IKEA Group (referred to as IKEA) was chosen as a preferred case due to the progress the company has made over time across the domains of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The empirical data consists of 912 measurement points that was collected from three annual sustainability reports published in 2020, 2021 and 2022 by the case company IKEA. Consolidated findings across the three years indicate that while the company typically takes the role as the initiator of sustainability business practices, the delivery of value is either carried out by the company itself or co-delivered with various partners. The most common benefactor of the value capture is society at large. This could be seen as the company driving sustainable business practices, though they might not reap the immediate benefits. Implications for managers and researchers are included.

  • Nurturing Social Presence in a Blended Learning Environment
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Conference on Computer Supported Education, CSEDU - Proceedings. - : SciTePress. - 9789897586415 ; , s. 519-526
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The ambition of this development study is to explore the opportunity to put the knowledge gained during the COVID-19 pandemic into practice in a blended, post-COVID, learning environment. The focus is to explore how a combination of digital and face-to-face activities may allow for fostering social presence among undergraduate students. The Social Presence model and the five elements of Affective Association, Community of Cohesion, Instructor Investment, Interaction Intensity, and Knowledge and Experience, encompass the theoretical framework of the study. The contextual setting is the first course of The Marketing Programme at Linnaeus University in Sweden, a bachelor program with a 50% Swedish intake and 50% international intake. Given the diverse background of the students in this course, challenges are typically encountered in relation to community building. Empirical data was collected during the fall of 2022 among the enrolled students using an online questionnaire. While the re sults from this study should be seen as preliminary, they offer an inspiring glimpse of how to nurture social presence in a blended learning environment.
