  • Effective Field Theory and Inelastic Dark Matter Results from XENON1T
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this work we expand on the XENON1T nuclear recoil searches and study the individual signals of Dark Matter interactions from operators up to dimension-eight in a Chiral Effective Field Theory (ChEFT) as well as a model of inelastic Dark Matter using data from the two science runs of the detector totalling 1 tonne*year exposure. For these analyses we extended the region of interest from [4.9, 40.9]keVnr to [4.9, 54.4]keVnr to enhance our sensitivity for signals that peak at nonzero energies. We show that the data is consistent with a background only hypothesis, with small excesses in the models which peak between 20 and 50keVnr, obtaining a maximum local discovery significance of 1.7 for the VVs ChEFT model for a WIMP mass of 70GeV/c2, and 1.8 for an iDM particle of 50GeV/c2 with a mass splitting of 100keV/c2. For each model we report 90% confidence level upper limits. We also report limits on three benchmark models of WIMP interaction using ChEFT for which we investigate the effect of isospin breaking interactions, reporting up to 6 orders of magnitude weaker limits with respect to the isospin conserving case driven by cancellations in the expected rate.

  • Structural, free-charge carrier and phonon properties of zinc-blende and wurtizte polymorphs in InN epitaxial layers
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We present a comprehensive study of the structural, phonon and free electron properties of zincblende InN films containing inclusion of wurtzite InN. Appropriate methods based on X-ray diffraction and Infrared spectroscopic ellipsometry to identify wurtizte and zinc-blende InN and quantify their phase ratio are developed and discussed. Thorough analysis on the formation of the cubic and wurtzite phases is presented and their evolution with film thickness is discussed in detail. The freecharge carrier and phonon properties of the two phases are discussed together with the determination of electron accumulation at the zinc-blende InN (001) and wurtzite (10̅11) surfaces.

  • THE INFLUENCE OF MEMBRANE COMPOSTION ON ACETIC ACID PERMEABILITY AND POTENTIALLY ACETIC ACID TOLERANCE
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: ISSY31: 31st International Specialised Symposium on Yeast.
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Compounds entering the cell do so either by passive diffusion over the plasma membrane or through transporters in the membrane. The specific lipid composition of the plasma membrane influences both the passive diffusion rate but also the activity of membrane proteins. Acetic acid, a major hurdle in fermentation processes using lignocellulosic material, is believed to pass through the membrane in its protonated from mainly by passive diffusion [1]. Sterols and sphingolipids are lipid classes thought to contribute to membrane rigidity. Sterols are often found to be involved in stress resistance [2, 3] and in our previous work sphingolipids were pointed at as an important constituent of the plasma membrane of the yeast Zygosaccharomyces bailii, known to be very tolerant to acetic acid, suggesting a possible link between acetic acid tolerance and sphingolipid relative abundance in the membrane [4]. Here we will provide supporting evidence of the importance of sphingolipids and sterols in acetic acid membrane permeability. We have combined biochemistry techniques with in silico membrane modeling to answer the question how membrane engineering can be used to decrease acetic acid membrane permeability. [1] Verduyn et al.
