  • The high energy cosmic-radiation detection (HERD) facility onboard China's Space Station
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering. - : SPIE. - 9780819496126
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The High Energy cosmic-Radiation Detection (HERD) facility is one of several space astronomy payloads of the cosmic lighthouse program onboard China's Space Station, which is planned for operation starting around 2020 for about 10 years. The main scientific objectives of HERD are indirect dark matter search, precise cosmic ray spectrum and composition measurements up to the knee energy, and high energy gamma-ray monitoring and survey. HERD is composed of a 3-D cubic calorimeter (CALO) surrounded by microstrip silicon trackers (STKs) from five sides except the bottom. CALO is made of about 104 cubes of LYSO crystals, corresponding to about 55 radiation lengths and 3 nuclear interaction lengths, respectively. The top STK microstrips of seven X-Y layers are sandwiched with tungsten converters to make precise directional measurements of incoming electrons and gamma-rays. In the baseline design, each of the four side SKTs is made of only three layers microstrips. All STKs will also be used for measuring the charge and incoming directions of cosmic rays, as well as identifying back scattered tracks. With this design, HERD can achieve the following performance: energy resolution of 1% for electrons and gamma-rays beyond 100 GeV, 20% for protons from 100 GeV to 1 PeV; electron/proton separation power better than 10-5; effective geometrical factors of >3 m2sr for electron and diffuse gamma-rays, >2 m2sr for cosmic ray nuclei. R and D is under way for reading out the LYSO signals with optical fiber coupled to image intensified CCD and the prototype of one layer of CALO.

    • The High Energy cosmic-Radiation Detection (HERD) facility is one of several space astronomy payloads onboard China's Space Station, which is planned for operation starting around 2025 for about 10 years. The main scientific objectives of HERD are searching for signals of dark matter annihilation products, precise cosmic electron (plus positron) spectrum and anisotropy measurements up to 10 TeV, precise cosmic ray spectrum and composition measurements up to the knee energy, and high energy gamma-ray monitoring and survey. HERD is composed of a 3-D cubic calorimeter (CALO) surrounded by microstrip silicon trackers (STKs) from five sides except the bottom. CALO is made of about 7,500 cubes of LYSO crystals, corresponding to about 55 radiation lengths and 3 nuclear interaction lengths, respectively. The top STK microstrips of six X-Y layers are sandwiched with tungsten converters to make precise directional measurements of incoming electrons and gamma-rays. • New Grid Scheduling and Rescheduling Methods in the GrADS Project
  • 2004
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Summary form only given. The goal of the Grid Application Development Software (GrADS) project is to provide programming tools and an execution environment to ease program development for the grid. We present recent extensions to the GrADS software framework: 1. A new approach to scheduling workflow computations, applied to a 3D image reconstruction application; 2. A simple stop/migrate/restart approach to rescheduling grid applications, applied to a QR 3. A process-swapping approach to rescheduling, applied to an N-body simulation. Experiments validating these methods were carried out on both the GrADS MacroGrid (a small but functional grid) and the MicroGrid (a controlled emulation of the grid) and the results were demonstrated at the SC2003 conference.

  • Current gain and low-frequency noise of symmetric lateral bipolar junction transistors on SOI
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 2018 48th European Solid-State Device Research Conference (ESSDERC). - 9781538654019 - 9781538654002 - 9781538654026 ; , s. 258-261
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a comprehensive study of symmetric lateral bipolar junction transistors (LBJTs) fabricated on SOI substrate using a CMOS-compatible process; LBJTs find many applications including being a local signal amplifier for silicon-nanowire sensors. Our LBJTs are characterized by a peak gain (β) over 50 and low-frequency noise two orders of magnitude lower than what typically is of the SiO 2 /Si interface for a MOSFET. β is found to decrease at low base current due to recombination in the space charge region at the emitter-base junction and at the surrounding SiO 2 /Si interfaces. This decrease can be mitigated by properly biasing the substrate.

  • Thermal Elastomer Composites for Soft Transducers
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 Transducers - 2015 18th International Conference on Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems, TRANSDUCERS 2015. - : IEEE conference proceedings. - 9781479989553 ; , s. 1873-1876
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is a need for thermal elastomer composites (TEC) which are stretchable, electrically insulating and easily processablefor soft and stretchable sensor or actuator systems as a thermal conductor or heat spreader at an interface or in a package.A novel TEC was made by embedding a gallium based liquid alloy (Galinstan) as a droplet in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS,Elastosil RT 601) matrix with a high speed mechanical mixing process.

  • Event-Triggered Distributed Nonconvex Optimization with Progress-Based Threshold
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 2023 62nd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, CDC 2023. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). ; , s. 309-314
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work studies the distributed nonconvex optimization problem in bandwidth-limited communication environments. We develop a communication-efficient algorithm based on the gradient-tracking based distributed optimization method, where each computation node is equipped with a new event-triggered communication scheduler. Such scheduler approves the broadcasting only when the innovation of exchanged variables exceeds the change of decision variables in two consecutive updates. Compared to the conventional scheduler with time-dependent vanishing thresholds, the proposed one adapts better to the optimization dynamics and thus leads to more significant communication reduction. Finally, we prove the convergence of the algorithm and illustrate its performance via numerical examples.
