  • Strontium chloride promotes cell proliferation in a human osteoblast cell line
  • 2014
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Strontium ranelate (SrRan) is the active component of drugs currently used for reducing the risk of fractures in patients suffering from osteoporosis. Despite extensive use, the underlying mechanisms of action of Sr2+ are not fully understood. In the present study, we assess the impact of SrCl2 on human osteoblast activity and proliferation. Cultures of the human osteoblast-like cell line MG63 were treated for 72 h in presence of 0.1 mM, 1 mM, 5 mM and 10 mM SrCl2 or vehicle, used in control groups. Cells were counted manually using a Bürker chamber. Total protein content was determined by colorimetric analysis performed by a microplate reader using Bio-Rad protein assay. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was determined enzymatically and normalized to total protein content in each sample. Cell viability was assessed using the MTT assay. Treatment with 5 mM SrCl2 for 72 h enhanced total MG63 cell protein content by 37% compared to controls (p<0.01). A lower concentration (0.1 mM) of SrCl2 had no effect on total protein. Incubation with 5 mM SrCl2 for 72 h increased MG63 cell number by 38% compared to controls (p<0.001). The SrCl2-induced increase in cell number was associated with enhanced (+14% compared to controls, p<0.05) cell viability. Treatment with a higher concentration (10 mM) of SrCl2 enhanced cell number similar to 5 mM SrCl2 (+54% compared to controls, p<0.05). Treatment with 0.1 or 5 mM SrCl2 for 72 h had no effect (p>0.05) on MG63 cell ALP activity, while 1 mM SrCl2 reduced ALP activity as well as total protein content by about 25% compared to controls (p<0.05). The current results demonstrate that treatment with SrCl2 for 72 h, at concentrations higher than 1 mM promotes cell proliferation in human osteoblast-like cells, suggesting that Sr2+ may enhance bone formation through this mechanism.

  • An Alternative Derivation of the Cardinalized Probability Hypothesis Density Filter
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this report, an alternative approach to derive the Gaussian mixture cardinalized probability hypothesis density (GM-CPHD) filter is presented. The derivations differ in that the presented ones are based on "ordinary" statistics, while the original GM-CPHD derivation started from the finite set statistics (FISST) description of the CPHD filter. The results of the derivations are compared with filter update equations presented in another paper. The sets of equations are not completely equivalent. However, initial performance evaluations of the approaches indicate similar performance. Future work is needed to understand the differences between different GM-CPHD filter equations.

  • Set JPDA Filter for Multi-Target Tracking
  • 2010
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this report we show that when targets are closely spaced, traditional trackingalgorithms can be adjusted to perform better under a performance measure thatdisregards identity. More specifically, we propose an adjusted version of the JointProbabilistic Data Association (JPDA) filter, which we call Set JPDA (SJPDA).Through examples and theory we motivate the new approach, and show its possibilities. To decrease the computational requirements, we further show that the SJPDAfilter can be formulated as a continuous optimization problem which is fairly easy tohandle. Optimal approximations are also discussed, and an algorithm, KLSJPDA,which provides optimal Gaussian approximations in the Kullback-Leibler sense isderived. Finally, we evaluate the SJPDA filter on two scenarios with closely spacedtargets, and compare the performance in terms of the mean Optimal SubpatternAssignment (MOSPA) measure with the JPDA filter, and also with the GaussianmixtureCPHD filter. The results show that the SJPDA filter performs substantiallybetter than the JPDA filter, and almost as well as the more complex GM-CPHDfilter.

  • EU FP7 INFSO-ICT-247223 ARTIST4G, D3.4 Relay configurations
  • 2011
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The following document contains proposals for innovations on relay configurations made by partners involved in the Artist4G project WP3, Task 3.3. The different relay configurations are for in-band and out-band relays, multi-hop relays, and moving relays. For each innovation, a description, the potential deviation from a defined baseline architecture, and simulation results (as far as available) are included. Important issues regarding the innovations impact on the architecture are pointed out and analysed in detail. This analysis will also be forwarded to WP4.

  • EU FP7 INFSO-ICT-317669 METIS, D4.2 Final report on trade-off investigations
  • 2014
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Research activities in METIS WP4 include several aspects related to the network-level of future wireless communication networks. Thereby, a large variety of scenarios is considered and solutions are proposed to serve the needs envisioned for the year 2020 and beyond. This document provides vital findings about several trade-offs that need to be leveraged when designing future network-level solutions. In more detail, it elaborates on the following trade-offs:• Complexity vs. Performance improvement• Centralized vs. Decentralized• Long time-scale vs. Short time-scale• Information Interflow vs. Throughput/Mobility enhancement• Energy Efficiency vs. Network Coverage and CapacityOutlining the advantages and disadvantages in each trade-off, this document serves as a guideline for the application of different network-level solutions in different situations and therefore greatly assists in the design of future communication network architectures.

  • 2010
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This document provides an overview of the proposed innovations and activities in Task 1.1 of Work Package 1 (WP1) of the ARTIST4G project, related to interference avoidance. Focus is on the technical approaches applicable at the physical layer, which are grouped into four different classes of innovations related to single-cell multi-user MIMO schemes, multi-cell multi-user MIMOschemes, advanced 3D beamforming and enabling functionalities. Descriptions of the proposed innovations are given including basic ideas, potential of performance, simulation results, realization options and possible implementation restrictions.
