  • So I Sat Down with My Mother : Connectedness Orientation and Pupils' Independence
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Education and technology for a better world. - Berlin : Springer. - 3642031145 - 9783642031144 ; , s. 282-291
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Swedish educational policy underlines the importance of independence. In this paper we use socio-cultural theory and Foucault to explain how pupils’ independency is transformed into something else in their work. Our results derive from analyses of filmed sessions and entries in the pupils’ logbooks. Our findings demonstrate that the pupils’ definitions of independence differ from those of the course plan in several aspects: i) the use of certain resources is not considered to show lack of independence, ii) doing things yourself is considered being most independent and iii) to follow instructions, even if this means violating your unique personal thought, is considered a prerequisite for passing/getting good grades and as such a necessary adaption to the school context, sooner than a sign of dependency. Consequently we argue that pupil independency should be regarded as a phenomenon chiseled out within a community of practice rather than a personal capacity.

  • High zooplankton diversity in the extreme environments of the McMurdo Dry Valley lakes, Antarctica
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Antarctic Science. - 1365-2079 .- 0954-1020. ; 24:2, s. 131-138
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The McMurdo Dry Valley lakes of Antarctica constitute some of the harshest and most isolated freshwater environments on Earth which might be expected to limit the biogeographical expansion of many organisms. Despite this, we found that the biodiversity of rotifer zooplankton is the highest ever recorded on the Antarctic mainland. We identified in total nine rotifer taxa, of which six are new to the Antarctic continent, in Lake Hoare, and also the first sub- adult crustacean copepod belonging to the genus Boeckella. A possible explanation for the high biodiversity is that many of the recorded species have arrived in the region in relatively recent times and then established invasive populations, suggesting that their distribution pattern was previously limited only by biogeographical borders. Interestingly, we show that the cosmopolitan rotifer taxa identified are relatively abundant, suggesting that they have established viable populations. Hence, our study suggests that the biogeographical maps have to be redrawn for several species.

  • Förpackningens förvandlingar : Konsumtion och karneval i barnboken
  • 2011

  • Heat Transfer Prediction of In Service Welding in a Forced Flow of Fluid
  • 2005
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • An algorithm for heat transfer prediction of in-service welding operations in a forcedflow of fluid is presented. The algorithm presented is derived from Rosenthal’s 3D heatflow equation and boundary layer approximations. This was possible by the introductionof an apparent thermal conductivity kPL, which is a function of the boundary layer’s heattransfer coefficient f and the base material’s thickness . This implies that a weldcooling time ΔtT1 /T2 in a forced flow of fluid can now be calculated by an ordinaryengineering calculator and thus enabling suitable welding parameters to be determined. The magnitude of kPLf , was established by regression analysis of results from aparametric finite element analysis series of a total number of 112 numerical simulations.Furthermore, the result of the regression analysis was validated and verified by a weldingexperiment series accomplished on an in-house designed and constructed in-servicewelding rig. The principle design of the welding rig as well as its instrumentation, a PCbased Data Acquisition system, is described. In addition, a method to measure the weldmetals cooling time ΔtT1 /T2 by means of thermocouple elements is described. Finally, the algorithm presented in this study proved feasible for industrial in-service weldingoperations of fine-grained Carbon and Carbon–Manganese steels with a maximum Carbon Equivalent (IIW) (CE) of 0.32.

  • Improved CWM platform for modelling welding procedures and their effects on structural behaviour
  • 2015
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A welding procedure specification is the document describing how a weld joint should be constructed. Arc weld processes are characterized by transient thermal behavior, leading to rapid changes in material properties and dynamic interaction between weld and base material. The objective of the project is to explore how the use of an improved CWM-platform affects representative stress and strain fields in order to assess welding procedure qualification records. Forthis project, the accumulated thermal and mechanical influences from the first run to the final run are brought forward, in one and the same meshed geometrical model. Both the thermal and mechanical material model of the platform are designed to be used for modelling of the base- and weld material, promoting the simulation of the intricate combination of the thermal, elastic, and plastic strains on the plastic strain hardening and the formation of residual stress fields. The output of the simulation is mainly weld cooling times, residual stresses, and deformations. This analysis is taken further by examining how residual stresses influence crack driving force under elastic and plastic loading. In addition, the output from the simulations can be used to assess the realism of the proposed welding parameters. The main experimental welding procedure examined comes from the IIW RSDP Round Robin Phase II benchmark project, where the main aim was to benchmark residual stress simulations. This work was found to contain many applicable challenges of a CWM-analysis project.

  • Multistimuli-Responsive Enaminitrile Molecular Switches Displaying H+-Induced Aggregate Emission, Metal Ion-Induced Turn-On Fluorescence, and Organogelation Properties
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Chemical Society. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0002-7863 .- 1520-5126. ; 140:42, s. 13640-13643
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multistimuli-responsive enaminitrile-based configurational switches displaying aggregation-induced emission (AIE), fluorescence turn-on effects, and super gelation properties are presented. The E-isomers dominated (>97%) in neutral/basic solution, and the structures underwent precisely controlled switching around the enamine C=C bond upon addition of acid/base. Specific fluorescence output was observed in response to different external input in the solution and solid states. In response to H+, configurational switching resulted in complete formation of the nonemissive Z-H+-isomers in solution, however displaying deep-blue to blue fluorescence (Phi(F) up to 0.41) in the solid state. In response to Cu-II in the solution state, the E-isomers exhibited intense, turn-on, blue-green fluorescence, which could be turned off by addition of competitive coordination. The acid/base-activated switching, together with the induced AIE-effects, further enabled the accomplishment of a responsive superorganogelator. In nonpolar solvents, a blue-fluorescent supramolecular gel was formed upon addition of acid to the E-isomer suspension. The gelation could be reversed by addition of base, and the overall, reversible process could be repeated at least five cycles.

  • Stimuli-responsive enaminitrile molecular switches as tunable AIEgens covering the chromaticity space, operating out-of-equilibrium, and acting as vapor sensors
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Aggregate. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2766-8541 .- 2692-4560.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A family of responsive enaminitrile molecular switches showing tunable turn-on fluorescence upon switching and aggregation is reported. When activated by the addition of acid/base, isomerization around the C & boxH;C bond could be effectuated, resulting in complete and reversible switching to the E- or Z-isomers. Typical aggregation-induced emission (AIE) could be recorded for one specific state of the different switches. By subtle tailoring of the parent structure, a series of compounds with emissions covering almost the full visible color range were obtained. The switchable AIE features of the enaminitrile structures enabled their demonstration as solid-state chemosensors to detect acidic and basic vapors, where the emission displayed an "off-on-off" effect. Furthermore, switching to the Z-configuration could be driven out-of-equilibrium through transient changes in acidity while giving rise to fluorescence. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements suggested a luminescence mechanism based on restriction of intramolecular rotation and an intramolecular charge transfer effect in the AIE luminogens. Responsive enaminitrile molecular switches showing tunable turn-on fluorescence upon switching and aggregation are presented. The switches were emissive over the visible color range and responsive aggregation-induced emission could be recorded. When applied as solid-state chemosensors, the switches could be used to detect acidic and basic vapors while displaying "off-on-off". image

  • Home healthcare nurses’ experiences of being on stand by as a first responder in a ‘While Waiting For the Ambulance’ assignment
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic journal of nursing research. - : Sage Publications. - 2057-1585 .- 2057-1593. ; 36:4, s. 184-191
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the study is to describe experiences of the ‘While Waiting for the Ambulance’ (WWFA) assignment, as described by home healthcare nurses (HHCNs). Since the early 1990s, municipal resources in Sweden, preferably firefighters, have been dispatched on WWFA. In order to further assist the local residents on an island in the southwest of Sweden, HHCNs have recently begun accompanying firefighters on WWFA. A reflective lifeworld approach was used for data analysis including in-depth interviews with eight HHCNs. When WWFA was established, the HHCNs experienced lack of clarity in where their responsibilities start and end. A split role is described, and there is a paradox in that the responders are meant to collaborate toward saving lives, when the assignment itself has a lack of collaborative structure. Ethical dilemmas and inner emotional worries led to the nurses expressing a need for support before, during and after WWFA.
