  • Experimental Validation of Single Base Station 5G mm Wave Positioning: Initial Findings
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 25th International Conference on Information Fusion, FUSION 2022. - Piscataway : IEEE.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 5G cellular networks can utilize millimeter wave signals, and support large bandwidths and large antenna arrays, which provide more geometric-based signals and higher delay and angle resolutions. These merits bring new opportunities in positioning the user with limited infrastructure through the use of combined angle and delay information. However, there are many practical challenges to overcome, in order to have a functioning single base station 5G mmWave positioning system. In this paper, we describe a deployed single base station mmWave positioning system, and provide an example of the measurement data. Furthermore, we perform measurement validation on a limited measurement data set by performing base station localization. Additional evaluations performed on simulation model data provide guidelines on the required size of the data set and receiver antenna configuration, which will be implemented in upcoming measurements.

  • Effect of a spacer on total systemic and lung bioavailability in healthy volunteers and in vitro performance of the Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol) pressurized metered dose inhaler
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Pulmonary Pharmacology and Therapeutics. - : Elsevier BV. - 1094-5539 .- 1522-9629. ; 52, s. 7-17
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Many patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma experience difficulties in coordinating inhalation with pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) actuation. The use of a spacer device can improve drug delivery in these patients. The aim of this study was to establish the relative bioavailability of single doses of Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol) pMDI 160/4.5 μg/actuation (2 actuations) used with and without a spacer device. In addition, an in vitro study was conducted to characterize performance of the inhaler when used in conjunction with a spacer device. Methods: A Phase I, randomized, open-label, single-dose, single-center, crossover study in 50 healthy volunteers (NCT02934607) assessed the relative bioavailability of single-dose Symbicort® pMDI 160/4.5 μg/actuation (2 actuations) with and without a spacer (AeroChamber Plus® Flow-Vu®). Inhaled doses were administered without or with activated charcoal (taken orally) to estimate total systemic exposure and exposure through the lung, respectively. The in vitro study characterized the effect of the spacer with respect to delivered dose, fine particle dose, and dose during simulated breathing of budesonide and formoterol. Results: In terms of total systemic exposure, use of the spacer increased the relative bioavailability determined by AUC(0-last) and Cmax by 68% (spacer:no spacer treatment ratio, 167.9%; 90% CI, 144.1 to 195.6) and 99% (ratio, 198.7%; 90% CI, 164.4 to 240.2) for budesonide, and 77% (ratio, 176.6%; 90% CI, 145.1 to 215.0) and 124% (ratio, 223.6%; 90% CI, 189.9 to 263.3) for formoterol, respectively, compared with pMDI alone. Similarly, the lung exposure of budesonide and formoterol increased (AUC(0-last) and Cmax by 146% [ratio, 246.0%; 90% CI, 200.7 to 301.6] and 127% [ratio, 226.5%; 90% CI, 186.4 to 275.4] for budesonide, and 173% [ratio, 272.8%; 90% CI, 202.5 to 367.4] and 136% [ratio, 236.2%; 90% CI, 192.6 to 289.6] for formoterol, respectively) when the pMDI was administered through the spacer. When assessed by AUC(0-last) quartile without spacer, subjects in the lowest exposure quartile (indicating poor inhalation technique) with Symbicort® pMDI 160/4.5 μg/actuation (2 actuations) had markedly increased total systemic and lung exposure when the same dose was administered with the spacer. In contrast, for subjects in the highest exposure quartile with pMDI alone, total systemic and lung exposure of formoterol and budesonide was similar with and without the spacer. In the in vitro study, the fine particle dose (<5 μm) of both budesonide and formoterol from the spacer at delay time (i.e. pause period after actuation) = 0 s (instantaneous) after actuation was similar to the fine particle dose when not using the spacer. The delivered doses of budesonide and formoterol from the spacer were both lower compared with the doses administered without the spacer. There was also a decrease in delivered dose with increasing delay time. Conclusions: The clinical study demonstrated that in subjects with poor inhalation technique the use of the AeroChamber Plus® Flow-Vu® spacer increased the bioavailability of Symbicort® pMDI to a level observed in subjects with good inhalation technique without a spacer. The findings from the in vitro study support the fine particle dose characteristics of Symbicort® pMDI with the AeroChamber Plus® Flow-Vu® spacer.

  • Microstructure of a Creep-Resistant 10 Pct Chromium Steel Containing 250 ppm Boron
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A: Physical Metallurgy and Materials Science. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1073-5623 .- 1543-1940. ; 42:4, s. 940-951
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The microstructure of a trial martensitic chromium steel containing a high content of boron (250 ppm) was characterized in detail in the as-tempered and aged conditions. This steel has a similar composition and heat treatment as the TAF steel that still is unsurpassed in creep strength among all 9 to 12 pct chromium steels. Characterization was performed by using scanning electron microscopy, energy-filtered transmission electron microscopy, secondary ion mass spectroscopy, and atom probe tomography. Focus was placed on investigating different types of precipitates that play a key role in improving the creep resistance of these steels. The low tempering temperature of 963 K (690 A degrees C) is enough for the precipitation of the full volume fraction of both MX and M23C6. A high boron content, more than 1 at. pct, was found in M23C6 precipitates and they grow slowly during aging. The high boron level in the steel results in metal borides rather than BN with the approximate formula (Mo0.66Cr0.34)(2)(Fe0.75V0.25)B-2. Two families of MX precipitates were found, one at lath boundaries about 35 nm in size and one dense inside the laths, only 5 to 15 nm in size.

  • Seabird surveillance: combining CCTV and artificial intelligence for monitoring and research
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Remote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation. - : Wiley. - 2056-3485. ; 9:4, s. 568-581
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ecological research and monitoring need to be able to rapidly convey information that can form the basis of scientifically sound management. Automated sensor systems, especially if combined with artificial intelligence, can contribute to such rapid high-resolution data retrieval. Here, we explore the prospects of automated methods to generate insights for seabirds, which are often monitored for their high conservation value and for being sentinels for marine ecosystem changes. We have developed a system of video surveillance combined with automated image processing, which we apply to common murres Uria aalge. The system uses a deep learning algorithm for object detection (YOLOv5) that has been trained on annotated images of adult birds, chicks and eggs, and outputs time, location, size and confidence level of all detections, frame-by-frame, in the supplied video material. A total of 144 million bird detections were generated from a breeding cliff over three complete breeding seasons (2019–2021). We demonstrate how object detection can be used to accurately monitor breeding phenology and chick growth. Our automated monitoring approach can also identify and quantify rare events that are easily missed in traditional monitoring, such as disturbances from predators. Further, combining automated video analysis with continuous measurements from a temperature logger allows us to study impacts of heat waves on nest attendance in high detail. Our automated system thus produces comparable, and in several cases significantly more detailed, data than those generated from observational field studies. By running in real time on the camera streams, it has the potential to supply researchers and managers with high-resolution up-to-date information on seabird population status. We describe how the system can be modified to fit various types of ecological research and monitoring goals and thereby provide up-to-date support for conservation and ecosystem management.

  • Data Driven Continuous Improvement by Six Sigma in Aircraft Industry
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: ENBIS-14 in Linz 21 – 25 September 2014.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Continuous improvements initiated by unsatisfactory output variation often require data or combinations of data from other up-stream variation sources than previously monitored. Three Six Sigma projects have been recently carried out in order to improve the process capability of welded components at GKN Aerospace. Common to these three projects are problems with the measurement systems and sub-sequent analysis related to the Key Characteristics (KC) evaluation. Parameters are traditionally monitored relative their individual requirements but not to the combined set of measures that form the KC. All three projects identified a need to establish a standardized procedure to develop data collection and analysis procedures relative specific KC based on downstream requirements in order to be able to evaluate KC baseline capability. The aim with this article is to recognize the development of an overall measurement system (containing probes, data collection routines and analysis procedures) as enabler of Continuous Improvement of downstream KC capability requirements.Note: GKN Aerospace is a Tier 2 supplier in the Aerospace business with a large variety of components that is available on more than 90% of all new engines.

  • Stem Cell Growth and Migration on Nanofibrous Polymer Scaffolds and Micro-Fluidic Channels on Silicon-Chip
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2009 Electronic Components and Technology Conference. - 0569-5503. - 9781424444762 ; , s. 1080-1085
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Stem cell growth and migration on nanofibrous scaffolds and micro-fluidic channels on Silicon-Chip were studied by using neural stem cells isolated from adult rats' brain. Electrospinning and lithographic technique were used for developing nanofibrous-polylactic acid (PLA) and polyurethane (PU) based-scaffolds and micro-fluidic channels on Si-Chips respectively. Immunocytochemical and morphological analysis showed better cell-matrix interaction with profound adhesion, proliferation and migration on the developed scaffolds. Cell culture assay with microfluidic channel revealed the ability of developed channel system in guiding neuronal stem cell growth towards specified directions. These studies extend the possibility of using developed nanofibrous scaffolds and micro-fluidic channel system for future electrical signal transmission based on living neural stem cells.

  • Terahertz Frequency-Domain Sensing Combined with Quantitative Multivariate Analysis for Pharmaceutical Tablet Inspection
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Pharmaceutics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0378-5173 .- 1873-3476. ; 632
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Near infrared (NIR) and Raman spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis are established techniques for the identification and quantification of chemical properties of pharmaceutical tablets like the concentration of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). However, these techniques suffer from a high sensitivity to particle size variations and are not ideal for the characterization of physical properties of tablets such as tablet density. In this work, we have explored the feasibility of terahertz frequency-domain spectroscopy, with the advantage of low scattering effects, combined with multivariate analysis to quantify API concentration and tablet density. We studied 33 tablets, consisting of Ibuprofen, Mannitol, and a lubricant with API concentration and filler particle size as the design factors. The terahertz signal was measured in transmission mode across the frequency range 750 GHz to 1.5 THz using a vector network analyzer, frequency extenders, horn antennas, and four off-axis parabolic mirrors. The attenuation spectral data were pre-processed and orthogonal partial least square (OPLS) regression was applied to the spectral data to obtain quantitative prediction models for API concentration and tablet density. The performance of the models was assessed using test sets. While a fair model was obtained for API concentration, a high-quality model was demonstrated for tablet density. The coefficient of determination (?2) for the calibration set was 0.97 for tablet density and 0.98 for API concentration, while the relative prediction errors for the test set were 0.7% and 6% for tablet density and API concentration models, respectively. In conclusion, terahertz spectroscopy demonstrated to be a complementary technique to Raman and NIR spectroscopy, which enables the characterization of physical properties of tablets like tablet density, and the characterization of API concentration with the advantage of low scattering effects.

  • Making "Wilderness" in a northern natural resource periphery: on restructuring and the production of a pleasure periphery in northern Sweden
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: The Politics of Arctic Resources: Change and Continuity in the "Old North" of Northern Europe. - Abingdon, Oxon ; New York, NY : Routledge, 2019. | Series: Transforming environmental politics and policy : Routledge. - 9781315174969 ; , s. 99-118
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Historically, northern peripheries have been colonized in order to access northern resources. The use of these resources promised economic wealth and community development even in northern parts of the Scandinavian Peninsula (Sörlin, 1988). However, already in the late 19th century the Swedish Tourist Association started promoting the area as also being worth a visit (Aldskogius 1993). Still, tourism has developed slowly, and as an industry remained in the shadow of resource-extractive activities until the 1990s when automatization within resource industries, but also a general transition of the Swedish economy towards a domination of service industries, caused a search for alternative development options (Müller, 2011, 2013a). In this context, an abundant resource – a seemingly “pristine nature” or wilderness – is in focus and utilized as a resource for tourism development. Today, a renewed focus on the North, because of climate change and new industrial opportunities, is creating a discursive environment where ideas of the region as pristine and important for a global environment compete with the idea of a resource periphery. This development is cutting across scales, creating new stakeholder constellations, and globalizing the issue of northern development far beyond what has been witnessed to date. Against this background, the purpose of this chapter is to analyze tourism development in northern Sweden with regard to factors on different scales influencing the transition from a resource periphery to a pleasure periphery, and particularly the role of path dependence. This is achieved through a review of relevant literature and case studies conducted in the Swedish North.
