  • PDE-SVD Based Audio Denoising
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 5th International Symposium on Communications Control and Signal Processing (ISCCSP), 2012. - Piscataway, NJ, USA : IEEE. - 9781467302746 ; , s. 1-6
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present a new method for denoising audio signals. The method is based on the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) of the frame matrix representing the signal inthe Overlap Add decomposition. Denoising is performed by modifying both the singular values, using a tapering model, and the singular vectors of the representation, using a nonlinear PDE method. The performance of the method is evaluated and compared with denoising obtained by filtering.

  • Landscape, climate, sea-level variations and human living conditions in a coastal area of western Blekinge on the Baltic sea between 11600 cal BP and AD 1000 : E22- Sölvesborg-Stensnäs-project members 2014
  • 2014
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of the project has been to reveal the living conditionsfor humans in a coastal area of the Baltic sea during thirteen thousand years and to study the implications of variations in climate, sea-level and landscape changes. The archaeological ex- cavations, well integrated with paleoecological studies, along a twenty kilometer new road-built between Sölvesborg and Stensnäs has resulted in unique findings which shed new light on to the human history in southern Scandinavia and adjust- ment of the sea-level curve in western Blekinge. Time periods from early mesolithic, neolithic, bronze age until late iron age are well represented at the sites along the former bay and lake Vesan. Macrofossil analysis of the plant material at the archae- ological sites has revealed the food resources, burial gifts and given a glimpse of the local environment. Sediment cores from the center and near shore of former lake Vesan has given the opportunity to reconstruct the aquatic conditions and vegeta- tion in the surroundinglandscape based on analysis of diatoms, pollen, macrofossils and carbon content. The vast number of radiocarbon dates of the archaeological material from various altitudes at the sites has enabled adjustment of the sea-level curve especially during Ancylus-, Littorina transgressions and aregression around 8.2 ka.

  • Data Driven Continuous Improvement by Six Sigma in Aircraft Industry
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: ENBIS-14 in Linz 21 – 25 September 2014.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Continuous improvements initiated by unsatisfactory output variation often require data or combinations of data from other up-stream variation sources than previously monitored. Three Six Sigma projects have been recently carried out in order to improve the process capability of welded components at GKN Aerospace. Common to these three projects are problems with the measurement systems and sub-sequent analysis related to the Key Characteristics (KC) evaluation. Parameters are traditionally monitored relative their individual requirements but not to the combined set of measures that form the KC. All three projects identified a need to establish a standardized procedure to develop data collection and analysis procedures relative specific KC based on downstream requirements in order to be able to evaluate KC baseline capability. The aim with this article is to recognize the development of an overall measurement system (containing probes, data collection routines and analysis procedures) as enabler of Continuous Improvement of downstream KC capability requirements.Note: GKN Aerospace is a Tier 2 supplier in the Aerospace business with a large variety of components that is available on more than 90% of all new engines.

  • The Scandinavian Ice Sheet: from MIS 4 to the end of the Last Glacial Maximum
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Boreas. - : Wiley. - 1502-3885 .- 0300-9483. ; 39:2, s. 410-435
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Glacial rebound modelling, to establish constraints on past ice sheets from the observational evidence of palaeo-shoreline elevations, is well established for the post- Last Glacial Maximum (post-LGM) period, for which the observational evidence is relatively abundant and well distributed spatially and in time. This is particularly the case for Scandinavia. For the earlier part of the glacial cycle this evidence becomes increasingly sparse and uncertain such that, with the exception of the Eemian period, there are very few, if any, direct sea-level indicators that constrain any part of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet evolution before the LGM. Instead, we assume that ice-sheet basal conditions during Marine Isotope Stage 3 (MIS 3) are the same as those for the LGM, focus on establishing these conditions from the rebound analysis for the LGM and Lateglacial period, and then extrapolate to the earlier period using observationally constrained locations of the ice margins. The glacial rebound modelling and inversion follow previously established formulations, with the exception that the effects of water loading from proglacial lakes that form within the Baltic Basin and elsewhere have been included. The data set for the inversion of the sea- and lake-level data has been extended to include marine-limit data in order to extend the observational record further back in time. The result is a sequence of time slices for the Scandinavian Ice Sheet from the time of MIS 4 to the Lateglacial that are characterized by frozen basal conditions until late in the LGM interval when rapid thinning occurred in the eastern and southern sectors of the ice sheet. The primary function of these models is as an interpolator between the fragmentary observational constraints and to produce quantitative models for the glaciation history with predictive capabilities, for example regarding the evolution of the Baltic Basin.

  • Compliance with hygiene guidelines : The effect of a multimodal hygiene intervention and validation of direct observations
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Infection Control. - : Elsevier. - 0196-6553 .- 1527-3296. ; 41:5, s. E45-E48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BackgroundGood compliance with hygiene guidelines is essential to prevent bacterial transmission and health care-associated infections. However, the compliance is usually <50%.MethodsA multimodal and multidisciplinary hygiene intervention was launched once the baseline compliance was determined through direct observations in 4 departments of obstetrics and gynecology. Detailed evaluations of the compliance rates were performed at point of stability (at 80%) and follow-up (3 years after hygiene intervention). Validation of direct observations was performed using blinded double appraisal and multiappraisal.ResultsAt baseline, the compliance with barrier precautions and the dress code at the 4 departments were 39% to 47% and 79% to 98%, respectively. Point of stability was reached approximately 1 year after the hygiene intervention was launched. The compliance with barrier precautions was significantly higher at follow-up compared with baseline in 3 departments. In the validation by double appraisal, 471 of 483 components were judged identical between observers. In the multiappraisal, 95% to 100% of the observers correctly judged the 7 components.ConclusionIt is possible to improve compliance with hygiene guidelines, but, to ensure a long-lasting effect, a continuous focus on barrier precautions is required. Observation is a valid method to monitor compliance.

  • AFM-based friction force spectroscopy : a novel methodology for the study of the strength and lateral diffusion of proteinaceous films
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proteins at Interfaces III State of the Art. - Washington, DC : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 9780841227972 - 9780841227965 ; , s. 129-151
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We present a novel methodology for the study of proteinaceous films based on the friction force spectroscopy operation mode of the atomic force microscope. It provides information both on the strength at the nanoscale level and on the lateral diffusion properties of these systems. The usefulness of the data generated by this methodology are shown through its application to the study of different types of monolayers of model proteins, as well as to the study of the more complex and heterogeneous salivary films.
