  • Enriched media-experience of sport events
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings. - Los Alamitos, Calif : IEEE Communications Society. - 0769522580 ; , s. 2-9
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes a system where Internet-enabled sensor technology was integrated into a context-aware platform to give viewers of sport events an enriched media experience. The system was developed as a proof of concept and was evaluated during real-life use at the Vasaloppet cross-country ski event. Using Bluetooth wireless ad-hoc networking and GPRS technology, sensor data was transmitted from contestants to the context-aware platform Alipes, which in turn presented the sport event viewer with a personalized, context-aware view. In this paper we discuss the system architecture and integration of components. The system was evaluated both from technical and user perspectives, where the evaluation results confirm our approach to be technically feasible and that the system provide an enriched media-experience for the majority of viewers.

  • Trends in product modelling : an ENDREA perspective
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings / Produktmodeller 2000. - Linköping : Linköping universitet.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The success of engineering companies is highly dependent on how well product information is managed, engineered and communicated. From marketing through development to after sales activities, data needs to be accessible and used in the best way. Today, geographical distance, the need for close co-operation and data complexity are all natural parts of the working environment. Product modelling techniques are continuously evolving with new requirements and opportunities emerging daily. This paper will outline and discuss some of these trends, and at the same time present some of the areas where research is being carried out within projects in the Product Model Cluster in the national graduate school - The Swedish Engineering Design Research and Education Agenda (ENDREA).

  • “Painting of Fourth” in different evolutionary lineages of Drosophila suggests chromosome specific gene regulation
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 101:26, s. 9728-9733
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Painting of fourth (POF) is a chromosome-specific protein in Drosophila and represents the first example of an autosome-specific protein. POF binds to chromosome 4 in Drosophila melanogaster, initiating at the proximal region, followed by a spreading dependent on chromosome 4-specific sequences or structures. Chromosome-specific gene regulation is known thus far only as a mechanism to equalize the transcriptional activity of the single male X chromosome with that of the two female X chromosomes. In Drosophila, a complex including the male-specific lethal proteins, "paints" the male X chromosome, mediating its hypertranscription, explained to some extent by the acetylation of lysine 16 on histone H4. Here, we show that Pof is essential for viability in both sexes and for female fertility. POF binding to an autosome, the F element, is conserved in genus Drosophila, indicating functional conservation of the autosome specificity. In three of nine studied species, POF binds to the male X chromosome. When bound to the male X, it also colocalizes with the dosage compensation protein male-specific lethal 3, suggesting a relationship to dosage compensation. The chromosome specificity is determined at the species level and not by the amino acid sequence. We argue that POF is involved in a chromosome-specific regulatory function

  • Time for Timber
  • 2005
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Embedded systems are often operating under hard real-time constraints, while at the same time being constrained by severe restrictions on power consumption. For such systems, robustness and reliability can be a question of life and death, which calls for rigorous system design and methodologies for validation. In this paper we advocate a design methodology for low-power, real-time systems, based on Timber; a pure reactive system model that allows for formal reasoning about various system properties. We outline how system specifications in Timber can be "compiled" into efficient standalone executables for general light- weight microcontroller based target platforms. Methods for resource analysis and implications to system dimensioning and validation are further discussed.

  • Context aware power optimizations of wireless embedded Internet systems
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: From the electrometer to the networked instruments. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Communications Society. - 078038248X ; , s. 91-95
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A key issue in research around embedded Internet systems (EIS) is to reduce power consumption. We envision EIS devices with lifetimes in the range of months or even years. This calls for developing aggressive power management techniques with a high degree of context awareness. As a first step towards this goal we introduce a design methodology for making context aware power optimizations of EIS. The presented design methodology which is verified by experimental results is a promising first step in prolonging operating time of battery powered wireless EIS.

  • Cross-country skiers go on-line
  • 2006
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This article presents a pervasive computing system which give spectators of sport events an enriched media experience. The system utilizes Internet- enabled sensor technology integrated into a context-aware platform and was evaluated during real-life use at the Vasaloppet cross-country ski event. Sensor data was transmitted from contestants, using Bluetooth wireless ad- hoc networking and GPRS technology, to the context-aware platform which in turn presented the sport event spectator with a personalized and context- aware view. The system architecture and integration of components are discussed in this article, together with evaluations from technical and user perspectives. The results confirm that our approach is technically feasible and that the system provides an enriched media-experience for the majority of spectators.

  • Mobile medical applications made feasible through use of EIS platforms
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 20th IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference. - : IEEE Communications Society. - 0780377052 ; , s. 292-295
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Monitoring of medical parameters often limits the mobility of the patient, eg., to the hospital. We present the first steps toward a solution where the patient is offered safety, while allowed the mobility to carry on with daily activities. A pulse oximeter is interfaced to a wireless sensor platform. The sensor system acts as a Bluetooth device providing a TCP/IP interface for configuration and maintenance. This allows user interaction through standardized WWW-browser technology. The sensor provides platform independent client software for data presentation. Sensor data can be transferred over IP/UDP and displayed in real time on the client device.
