  • Construction and performance of the PHENIX pad chambers
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments & Methods in Physics Research. Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors, and Associated Equipment. - 0167-5087. ; 497:2-3, s. 263-293
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the Pad Chamber detector system in the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The three station system provides space points along each track in the spectrometer arms at mid-rapidity and covers a total area of 88 m(2). Its main functions are to provide the track coordinate along the beam and to ensure reliable pattern recognition at very high particle multiplicity. A new concept for two dimensional wire chamber readout via its finely segmented cathode was developed. The full readout system, comprising 172 800 electronic channels, is described together with the challenging design of the chambers. The electronics, mounted on the outer chamber face, together with the chamber itself amounts to 1.2% of a radiation length. Results from cosmic ray tests, showing an average efficiency better than 99.5% for all chambers are presented. The experiences from the full scale operation in the first run are reported. • Adjustment for Disease Severity in the Test-Negative Study Design
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: American journal of epidemiology. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 1476-6256 .- 0002-9262. ; 190:9, s. 1882-1889
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The test-negative study design is often used to estimate vaccine effectiveness in influenza studies, but it has also been proposed in the context of other infectious diseases, such as cholera, dengue, or Ebola. It was introduced as a variation of the case-control design, in an attempt to reduce confounding bias due to health-care–seeking behavior, and has quickly gained popularity because of its logistic advantages. However, examination of the directed acyclic graphs that describe the test-negative design reveals that without strong assumptions, the estimated odds ratio derived under this sampling mechanism is not collapsible over the selection variable, such that the results obtained for the sampled individuals cannot be generalized to the whole population. In this paper, we show that adjustment for severity of disease can reduce this bias and, under certain assumptions, makes it possible to unbiasedly estimate a causal odds ratio. We support our findings with extensive simulations and discuss them in the context of recently published cholera test-negative studies of the effectiveness of cholera vaccines.

  • Sensitivity analysis for unmeasured confounding in the estimation of marginal causal effects
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: BIOMETRIKA. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0006-3444 .- 1464-3510. ; 109:4, s. 1101-1116
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • One of the main threats to the validity of causal effect estimates from observational data is the existence of unmeasured confounders. A plethora of methods has been proposed to quantify deviation from conditional exchangeability, which arises when confounding is not properly accounted for, with each method having its own set of limitations and underlying assumptions. Few methods both scale well with the increasing complexity of potential measured confounders and avoid making strong simplifying assumptions about the effect of the unmeasured confounder within strata of the measured confounders. For binary outcomes, we propose a quantification of the deviation from conditional exchangeability, based on standardization within levels of the exposure, which can accommodate any type of measured and unmeasured confounders or desired estimand. In the case of binary exposure, this amounts to varying two parameters across a grid of values, no matter how complex the measured confounding. We propose three methods of estimation for the causal estimand of interest under our proposed sensitivity analysis. This allows for an easily applied, easily interpreted sensitivity analysis that makes minimal assumptions about the type of unmeasured confounding and places no limits on the complexity of the potential measured confounders.

  • Influence of preparation conditions on structure and photosensing properties of GeSi/TiO2 multilayers
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: 2017 International Semiconductor Conference (CAS). - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781509039852 ; , s. 63-66
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The photosensing properties related to the structure of GeSi/TiO2 multilayers prepared under different conditions are studied. TiO2 cap/(GeSi/TiO2)2 multilayers (ML) were deposited by magnetron sputtering (MS) and annealed by rapid thermal annealing. Trilayers of TiO2 cap/GeSi/TiO2 (TL) were also deposited using reactive high power impulse MS (HiPIMS) for TiO2 layers and dc MS for the GeSi layer. For TL samples a two-step annealing was employed, one before and the second after depositing TiO2 cap. Structure and morphology characterization (X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy) was carried out and photocurrent measurements (voltage dependences, spectral curves) were performed. The annealed ML samples are formed of GeSi NCs with 5-10 nm sizes, while in the annealed TL samples, the GeSi NCs are larger (20-30 nm). These morphologies determine the multilayers photosensing properties in VIS-NIR of ML structures and in UV in TL ones, respectively.

  • En modig stadsplanering
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: PLAN. - 0032-0560 .- 2002-7176. ; 75:7, s. 6-11

  • Roma street-workers in Uppsala : racialised poverty and super precarious housing conditions in Romania and Sweden
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International journal of housing policy. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1949-1247 .- 1949-1255. ; 21:3, s. 401-422
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a combination of a political economy approach for the analysis of housing with a postcolonial approach to mobility patterns of the racialised and impoverished Roma in Europe, we reflect on the relationship between racialisation and the precarious living and housing conditions of the Eastern European Roma who move from the poorer to the richer countries of the European Union. Through a qualitative and multi-sited approach to housing, we reveal the situation of permanent displacement for racialised Romanian Roma groups in both Sweden and Romania. We have followed Roma street-workers who come to Sweden for earning income in order to improve their homes in Romania, but once there, they are exposed to homelessness, harsh weather conditions, racism and discrimination. We found that the super precarious conditions of housing in Romania push the migrant Roma into even worse housing and living conditions in the destination country, completing a vicious circle of forced nomadism in which the lack of right to decent housing and permanent risk of displacement are central aspects. This article merges the interests of urban and housing researchers with those from the postcolonial tradition.
