  • The MAST motional Stark effect diagnostic
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS. - Melville, NY : AMER INST PHYSICS. - 1089-7623. ; , s. 10D738-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A motional Stark effect (MSE) diagnostic is now installed and operating routinely on the MAST spherical tokamak, with 35 radial channels, spatial resolution of similar to 2.5 cm, and time resolution of similar to 1 ms at angular noise levels of similar to 0.5 degrees. Conventional (albeit very narrow) interference filters isolate pi or sigma polarized emission. Avalanche photodiode detectors with digital phase-sensitive detection measure the harmonics of a pair of photoelastic modulators operating at 20 and 23 kHz, and thus the polarization state. The pi component is observed to be significantly stronger than sigma, in reasonably good agreement with atomic physics calculations, and as a result, almost all channels are now operated on pi. Trials with a wide filter that admits the entire Stark pattern (relying on the net polarization of the emission) have demonstrated performance almost as good as the conventional channels. MSE-constrained equilibrium reconstructions can readily be produced between pulses.

  • MeerGAL: the MeerKAT galactic plane survey
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Science. - 1824-8039.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Radio surveys of the Milky Way galaxy have transformed our understanding of star formation and stellar evolution. However, due to strong dependence of “survey cost” on frequency most large area surveys have so far been carried out at low frequencies (∼ a few GHz). These surveys select against dense plasma as the free-free turnover frequency scales directly with electron density which means that there are significant biases against the detection of the youngest and densest HII regions, Young Stellar Objects, jets, winds and Planetary Nebulae. Here we describe the MeerKAT Large Project MeerGAL, which aims to address this issue by making the first sensitive high frequency, high resolution multi-epoch survey of the Galactic Plane. Together with its Northern Hemisphere sister project KuGARS (the Ku-band Galactic Reconnaissance Survey), MeerGAL will revolutionise the study of massive star formation and stellar evolution, Galactic structure, and variability.

  • Fusing of immunoscintigraphy SPECT with CT or MRI for improved multimodality image interpretation
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1992 14th Annual International Conference of the IEEE. - : IEEE. - 0780307852 ; , s. 1805-1806
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Correlation of PET or SPECT functional with CT or MRI anatomic transaxial images often enhances the information available on these studies. Careful registration of images from two types of studies may be used to identify a structure containing to a PET or SPECT abnormality or to evaluate the functional or metabolic characteristics of an abnormal or normal structure. CTSPECT or PET image registration has been applied to brain imaging for metabolic and cerebral perfusion studies [1–3], more recently, to Ga-67 imaging of the chest [4], as well as to CT-SPECT correlation in cancer patients undergoing immunoscintigraphy [5–7]. We have applied an image registration technique to correlate CT or MRI of the abdomen and chest with SPECT images obtained after the administration of tumor-directed radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies. Correlation of PET or SPECT functional with CT or MRI anatomic transaxial images often enhances the information available on these studies. Careful registration of images from two types of studies may be used to identify a structure containing to a PET or SPECT abnormality or to evaluate the functional or metabolic characteristics of an attempt to improve our interpretation of these imaging studies.

  • The Visual Object Tracking VOT2016 Challenge Results
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: COMPUTER VISION - ECCV 2016 WORKSHOPS, PT II. - Cham : SPRINGER INT PUBLISHING AG. - 9783319488813 - 9783319488806 ; , s. 777-823
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2016 aims at comparing short-term single-object visual trackers that do not apply pre-learned models of object appearance. Results of 70 trackers are presented, with a large number of trackers being published at major computer vision conferences and journals in the recent years. The number of tested state-of-the-art trackers makes the VOT 2016 the largest and most challenging benchmark on short-term tracking to date. For each participating tracker, a short description is provided in the Appendix. The VOT2016 goes beyond its predecessors by (i) introducing a new semi-automatic ground truth bounding box annotation methodology and (ii) extending the evaluation system with the no-reset experiment.

  • Unraveling The Dust Formation Process In R DOR
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: EAS Publications Series. - : EDP Sciences. - 1633-4760 .- 1638-1963. - 9782759819072 ; 71-72, s. 255-257
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using both dynamical and chemical modelling, we derive an accurate abundance profile for the molecule SiO in the stellar wind of R Dor, an O-rich AGB star. SiO plays a key role in the dust formation process in O-rich AGB stars. This method will be applied to additional molecules, with the aim to achieve a detailed overview of the molecular abundance pattern in the wind of R Dor.
