  • Decoding of woven convolutional codes and simulation results
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. - 0780358570 ; , s. 96-96
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An iterative decoding scheme for woven convolutional codes is presented. It is called pipeline decoding and operates in a window sliding over the received sequence. This exploits the nature of convolutional codes as sequences and suits the concept of convolutional encoding and decoding as a continuous process. The pipeline decoder is analyzed in terms of decoding delay and decoding complexity. Additional interleaving for woven convolutional constructions is introduced by employing a convolutional scrambler. It is shown that some types of interleaving preserve the lower bound on the free distance of the original woven construction. Simulation results for woven convolutional codes are presented

  • Development of Various Photovoltaic‐Driven Water Electrolysis Technologies for Green Solar Hydrogen Generation
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Solar RRL. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2367-198X. ; 6:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Direct solar hydrogen generation via a combination of photovoltaics (PV) and water electrolysis can potentially ensure a sustainable energy supply while minimizing greenhouse emissions. The PECSYS project aims at demonstrating asolar-driven electrochemical hydrogen generation system with an area >10 m2 with high efficiency and at reasonable cost. Thermally integrated PV electrolyzers(ECs) using thin-film silicon, undoped, and silver-doped Cu(In,Ga)Se2 and silicon heterojunction PV combined with alkaline electrolysis to form one unit are developed on a prototype level with solar collection areas in the range from 64 to2600 cm2 with the solar-to-hydrogen (StH) efficiency ranging from 4 to 13%. Electrical direct coupling of PV modules to a proton exchange membrane EC test the effects of bifacially (730 cm2 solar collection area) and to study the long-term operation under outdoor conditions (10 m2 collection area) is also investigated. In both cases, StH efficiencies exceeding 10% can be maintained over the test periods used. All the StH efficiencies reported are based on measured gas outflow using mass flow meters.

  • The hidden-Markov brain comparison and inference of white matter hyperintensities on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Neural Engineering. - : IOP Publishing. - 1741-2560 .- 1741-2552. ; 8:1, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rating and quantification of cerebral white matter hyperintensities on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are important tasks in various clinical and scientific settings. As manual evaluation is time consuming and imprecise, much effort has been made to automate the quantification of white matter hyperintensities. There is rarely any report that attempts to study the similarity/dissimilarity of white matter hyperintensity patterns that have different sizes, shapes and spatial localizations on the MRI. This paper proposes an original computational neuroscience framework for such a conceptual study with a standpoint that the prior knowledge about white matter hyperintensities can be accumulated and utilized to enable a reliable inference of the rating of a new white matter hyperintensity observation. This computational approach for rating inference of white matter hyperintensities, which appears to be the first study, can be utilized as a computerized rating-assisting tool and can be very economical for diagnostic evaluation of brain tissue lesions.

  • Institutional reasons for not implementing PPPs in the transport sector
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: COST Action TU1001. - Bari : Favia. - 9781138898165 ; , s. 108-121
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Purpose – Italian implementation of PPP has its own features which distinguish it from other models adopted in Europe and in the world. International literature lacks of contributions about the Italian case, while the analyses on this issue in the national literature are not systemic. To fill this gap we aim at characterizing the main features of Italian PPPs, in comparison to the features of such partnerships in Europe and in the world.Design/methodology/approach – In order to describe the PPP implementation, the paper proposes a theoretical framework describing PPP as it is conceived by international literature.Findings – A set of factors, like uncertainty on the rules, complex procedures and the lack of private competences  on PPP, hinder the involvement of private operators in PPPs. Consequently, PPP project financing structure is mainly based on public guarantees, even because of scarce utilization of capital markets for funding.Social implications – Practitioners and scholars can use this framework analysis in order to know strengths and weaknesses of PPP application in their socio-economic context.Originality/value – The proposed framework represents a useful tool for comparing the application of PPPs among different sectors and different countries. Furthermore, the theoretical framework can be considered a starting point of future research aiming at developing a tool for assessing the expected performance of PPP projects.
