  • 4MOST : Project overview and information for the First Call for Proposals
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: The Messenger. - : European Southern Observatory. - 0722-6691. ; 175, s. 3-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We introduce the 4-metre Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope (4MOST), a new high-multiplex, wide-field spectroscopic survey facility under development for the four-metre-class Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) at Paranal. Its key specifications are: a large field of view (FoV) of 4.2 square degrees and a high multiplex capability, with 1624 fibres feeding two low-resolution spectrographs (R = λ/Δλ ~ 6500), and 812 fibres transferring light to the high-resolution spectrograph (R ~ 20 000). After a description of the instrument and its expected performance, a short overview is given of its operational scheme and planned 4MOST Consortium science; these aspects are covered in more detail in other articles in this edition of The Messenger. Finally, the processes, schedules, and policies concerning the selection of ESO Community Surveys are presented, commencing with a singular opportunity to submit Letters of Intent for Public Surveys during the first five years of 4MOST operations.

  • Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV : Mapping the Milky Way, Nearby Galaxies, and the Distant Universe
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Astronomical Journal. - : IOP Publishing Ltd. - 0004-6256 .- 1538-3881. ; 154:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We describe the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV), a project encompassing three major spectroscopic programs. The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) is observing hundreds of thousands of Milky Way stars at high resolution and. high signal-to-noise ratios in the near-infrared. The Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey is obtaining spatially resolved spectroscopy for thousands of nearby galaxies (median z similar to 0.03). The extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) is mapping the galaxy, quasar, and neutral gas distributions between z similar to 0.6 and 3.5 to constrain cosmology using baryon acoustic oscillations, redshift space distortions, and the shape of the power spectrum. Within eBOSS, we are conducting two major subprograms: the SPectroscopic IDentification of eROSITA Sources (SPIDERS), investigating X-ray AGNs. and galaxies in X-ray clusters, and the Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS), obtaining spectra of variable sources. All programs use the 2.5 m Sloan Foundation Telescope at the. Apache Point Observatory; observations there began in Summer 2014. APOGEE-2 also operates a second near-infrared spectrograph at the 2.5 m du Pont Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, with observations beginning in early 2017. Observations at both facilities are scheduled to continue through 2020. In keeping with previous SDSS policy, SDSS-IV provides regularly scheduled public data releases; the first one, Data Release 13, was made available in 2016 July.

  • The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey : First Spectroscopic Data from the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the Second Phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : IOP Publishing Ltd. - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 235:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since 2014 July. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the 14th from SDSS overall (making this Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes the data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (2014-2016 July) public. Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey; the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data-driven machine-learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from the SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS web site (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020 and will be followed by SDSS-V.

  • In situ observation of gamma-ZrH formation by X-ray diffraction
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : Elsevier. - 0925-8388 .- 1873-4669. ; 695, s. 3124-3130
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on the measurement of the formation of gamma-ZrH during in situ gaseous charging. The measurements were undertaken using high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Experimental observation shows that gamma-ZrH can form at 180 degrees C from a mixture of alpha+delta while dehydrogenating at slow cooling rates. The observation is further supported by ex situ laboratory X-ray diffraction on deuterated Zr powder that has undergone a similar heat-treatment cycle. The crystal structure of gamma-ZrH refinement agrees with the reported P4(2)/n structure found in the literature. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Benchmarking Multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock Calculations for Astrophysics : Si-like Ions from Cr xi to Zn xvii
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 257:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) and relativistic configuration interaction methods are used to provide excitation energies, lifetimes, and radiative transition data for the 604 (699, 702, 704, 704, 704, and 699) lowest levels of the 3s (2)3p (2), 3s3p (3), 3s (2)3p3d, 3p (4), 3s3p (2)3d, 3s (2)3d (2), 3p (3)3d, 3s3p3d (2), 3s3d (3), 3p3d (3), 3p (2)3d (2), 3s (2)3p4s, 3s (2)3p4p, 3s (2)3p4d, 3s (2)3p4f, 3s3p (2)4s, 3s3p (2)4p, 3s3p (2)4d, 3s3p (2)4f, 3s (2)3d4s, 3s (2)3d4p, 3p (3)4s, 3p (3)4p, 3s3p3d4s, 3s (2)3p5s, and 3s (2)3p5p configurations in Cr xi, (Mn xii, Fe xiii, Co xiv, Ni xv, Cu xvi, and Zn xvii). Previous line identifications of Fe xiii and Ni xv in the EUV and X-ray wavelength ranges are reviewed by comprehensively comparing the MCDHF theoretical results with available experimental data. Many recent identifications of Fe xiii and Ni xv lines are confirmed, and several new identifications for these two ions are proposed. A consistent atomic data set with spectroscopic accuracy is provided for the lowest hundreds of levels for Si-like ions of iron-group elements of astrophysical interest, for which experimental values are scarce. The uncertainty estimation method suggested by Kramida, applied to the comparison of the length and velocity line strength values, is used for ranking the transition data. The correlation of the latter with the gauge dependency patterns of the line strengths is investigated.

  • Identification of a danger-associated peptide from apolipoprotein B100 (ApoBDS-1) that triggers innate proatherogenic responses
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Circulation. - Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Medicine, Solna. - 1524-4539 .- 0009-7322. ; 124:22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Subendothelial deposited low-density lipoprotein particles are a known inflammatory factor in atherosclerosis. However, the causal components derived from low-density lipoprotein are still poorly defined. Apolipoprotein B100 (ApoB100) is the unexchangeable protein component of low-density lipoprotein, and the progression of atherosclerosis is associated with immune responses to ApoB100-derived peptides. In this study, we analyzed the proinflammatory activity of ApoB100 peptides in atherosclerosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: By screening a peptide library of ApoB100, we identified a distinct native peptide referred to as ApoB100 danger-associated signal 1 (ApoBDS-1), which shows sequence-specific bioactivity in stimulation of interleukin-8, CCL2, and interleukin-6. ApoBDS-1 activates mitogen-activated protein kinase and calcium signaling, thereby effecting the expression of interleukin-8 in innate immune cells. Ex vivo stimulation of carotid plaques with ApoBDS-1 enhances interleukin-8 and prostaglandin E release. Furthermore, we demonstrated that ApoBDS-1-positive peptide fragments are present in atherosclerotic lesions using immunoassays and that low-molecular-weight fractions isolated from plaque show ApoBDS-1 activity inducing interleukin-8 production. CONCLUSIONS: Our data show that ApoBDS-1 is a previously unrecognized peptide with robust proinflammatory activity, contributing to the disease-promoting effects of low-density lipoprotein in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

  • Large-scale Multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock Calculations for Astrophysics : C-like Ions from O iii to Mg vii
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : IOP Publishing Ltd. - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 260:2, s. 1-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Large-scale multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations are provided for the n <= 5 states in C-like ions from O iii to Mg vii. Electron correlation effects are accounted for by using large configuration state function expansions, built from sets of orbitals with principal quantum numbers n <= 10. An accurate and complete data set of excitation energies, wavelengths, radiative transition parameters, and lifetimes is offered for the 156 (196, 215, 272, 318) lowest states of the 2s (2)2p (2), 2s2p (3), 2p (4), 2s (2)2p3s, 2s (2)2p3p, 2s (2)2p3d, 2s2p (2)3s, 2s2p (2)3p, 2s2p (2)3d, 2p (3)3s, 2p (3)3p, 2p (3)3d, 2s (2)2p4s, 2s (2)2p4p, 2s (2)2p4d, 2s (2)2p4f, 2s2p (2)4s, 2s2p (2)4p, 2s2p (2)4d, 2s2p (2)4f, 2s (2)2p5s, 2s (2)2p5p, 2s (2)2p5d, 2s (2)2p5f, and 2s (2)2p5g configurations in O iii (F iv, Ne v, Na vi, Mg vii). By comparing available experimental wavelengths with the MCDHF results, the previous line identifications for the n = 5, 4, 3 -> n = 2 transitions of Na vi in the X-ray and EUV wavelength range are revised. For several previous identifications discrepancies are found, and tentative new (or revised) identifications are proposed. A consistent atomic data set including both energy and transition data with spectroscopic accuracy is provided for the lowest hundreds of states for C-like ions from O iii to Mg vii.

  • Low Plasma Level of Atrial Natriuretic Peptide Predicts Development of Diabetes: The Prospective Malmo Diet and Cancer Study.
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: The Journal of clinical endocrinology and metabolism. - : The Endocrine Society. - 1945-7197 .- 0021-972X. ; 97:2, s. 638-645
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Context:The cardiac natriuretic peptides are involved in blood pressure regulation, and large cross-sectional studies have shown lower plasma levels of N-terminal pro-natriuretic peptide levels [N-terminal atrial natriuretic peptide (N-ANP) and N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide (N-BNP)] in patients with insulin resistance, obesity, and diabetes. Objective:In this study, we prospectively tested whether plasma levels of mid-regional ANP (MR-ANP) and N-BNP predict new-onset diabetes and long-term glucose progression.Design, Setting, and Patients:MR-ANP and N-BNP were measured in 1828 nondiabetic individuals of the Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort (mean age 60 yr; 61% women) who subsequently underwent a follow-up exam including an oral glucose tolerance test after a median follow-up time of 16 yr. Logistic regression was used to adjust for covariates. Results:During follow-up, 301 subjects developed new-onset diabetes. After full multivariate adjustment, MR-ANP was significantly inversely associated with incident diabetes (OR = 0.85; 95% CI = 0.73-0.99; P = 0.034) but not N-BNP (OR = 0.92; 95% CI = 0.80-1.06; P = 0.262). In fully adjusted linear regression models, the progression of fasting glucose during follow-up was significantly inversely related to baseline levels of MR-ANP (P = 0.004) but not N-BNP (P = 0.129). Quartile analyses revealed that the overall association was mainly accounted for by excess risk of incident diabetes in subjects belonging to the lowest quartile of MR-ANP. After full adjustment, the odds ratio for incident diabetes in the bottom compared with the top quartile of MR-ANP was 1.65 (OR = 1.08-2.51, P = 0.019) and 1.43 (OR = 1.04-1.96, P = 0.027) compared with all other subjects. Conclusion:Low plasma levels of MR-ANP predict development of future diabetes and glucose progression over time, suggesting a causal role of ANP deficiency in diabetes development.

  • Modelling Data Pipelines
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - 46th Euromicro Conference on Software Engineering and Advanced Applications, SEAA 2020. - : IEEE. ; , s. 13-20
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data is the new currency and key to success. However, collecting high-quality data from multiple distributed sources requires much effort. In addition, there are several other challenges involved while transporting data from its source to the destination. Data pipelines are implemented in order to increase the overall efficiency of data-flow from the source to the destination since it is automated and reduces the human involvement which is required otherwise. Despite existing research on ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) and ELT (Extract-Load-Transform) pipelines, the research on this topic is limited. ETL/ELT pipelines are abstract representations of the end-to-end data pipelines. To utilize the full potential of the data pipeline, we should understand the activities in it and how they are connected in an end-to-end data pipeline. This study gives an overview of how to design a conceptual model of data pipeline which can be further used as a language of communication between different data teams. Furthermore, it can be used for automation of monitoring, fault detection, mitigation and alarming at different steps of data pipeline.

  • Towards automated detection of data pipeline faults
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference, APSEC. - : IEEE. - 1530-1362. ; 2020-December, s. 346-355, s. 346-355
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data pipelines play an important role throughout the data management process. It automates the steps ranging from data generation to data reception thereby reducing the human intervention. A failure or fault in a single step of a data pipeline has cascading effects that might result in hours of manual intervention and clean-up. Data pipeline failure due to faults at different stages of data pipelines is a common challenge that eventually leads to significant performance degradation of data-intensive systems. To ensure early detection of these faults and to increase the quality of the data products, continuous monitoring and fault detection mechanism should be included in the data pipeline. In this study, we have explored the need for incorporating automated fault detection mechanisms and mitigation strategies at different stages of the data pipeline. Further, we identified faults at different stages of the data pipeline and possible mitigation strategies that can be adopted for reducing the impact of data pipeline faults thereby improving the quality of data products. The idea of incorporating fault detection and mitigation strategies is validated by realizing a small part of the data pipeline using action research in the analytics team at a large software-intensive organization within the telecommunication domain.
