  • Adjunctive effects of laser therapy on somatosensory function and vasomotor regulation of periodontal tissues in patients with periodontitis : A randomized controlled clinical trial
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Periodontology. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0022-3492 .- 1943-3670. ; 91:10, s. 1310-1317
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: The purpose of this prospective study was to compare the changes in periodontal somatosensory function and microcirculation in patients with periodontitis following initial treatment with scaling and root planing (SRP) with or without adjuvant laser therapy.METHODS: Twenty-four patients suffering from periodontitis were recruited and randomly allocated into a split-mouth design to either SRP combined laser therapy side (test side) or SRP only side (control side). All treatments were performed by the same investigator at a single visit. Laser Doppler Flowmetry (LDF) and Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) were performed at baseline (W0), 1 week (1W), 2 weeks (2W), and 4 weeks (4W) after treatment on both sides of the attached gingiva of the maxillary lateral incisor. Clinical examination including pocket probing depth (PPD) and bleeding on probing (BOP) was performed at W0, 2W, and 4W on both sides. Data were analyzed with two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).RESULTS: The PPD and BOP significantly improved after treatment (P <0.001). The LDF values were significantly decreased on both sides at all follow-up time points (P <0.001), temperature was increased only on the test side (P = 0.017) whereas there was no significant change on the control side (P = 0.792). Significantly less sensitivity was observed for all QST parameters (P <0.030) except for warmth detection after treatment.CONCLUSION: Adjunctive use of laser therapy did not provide any significant clinically advantage or additional effects on the recovery of periodontal somatosensory function or gingival microcirculation in the present study. • Microcirculation and somatosensory profiling of patients with periodontitis : a preliminary case control report
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Clinical Oral Investigations. - : Springer. - 1432-6981 .- 1436-3771. ; 25, s. 1223-1233
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this preliminary study was to explore blood microcirculation and somatosensory profiles in periodontitis patients before and after non-surgical periodontal therapy.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty patients (10 men and 10 women, 20 to 30 years old) and 20 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were included. Non-surgical periodontal therapy was performed for all patients. Clinical examination including pocket probing depth (PPD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), and bleeding on probing (BOP) were performed at baseline (BL), 1 week (1W), and 4 weeks (4W) after non-surgical periodontal therapy on 6 sites of tooth 32 and 42. Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) and quantitative sensory testing (QST) were applied at the attached gingiva of tooth 32 and 42 at BL, 1W, and 4W after non-surgical periodontal therapy. Data were analyzed with a two-way mixed-model of ANOVA.RESULTS: The PPD, CAL and BOP significantly improved after non-surgical periodontal therapy (p < 0.001). Periodontitis patients demonstrated a higher tissue microvascular blood cell concentration (p = 0.015) and a significant gain in thermal (p = 0.037) and mechanical (p = 0.003) somatosensory function compared to controls. After non-surgical periodontal therapy, the flux (p = 0.002) and speed (p = 0.008) of blood flow decreased significantly and thermal (p = 0.029) and mechanical (p < 0.001) somatosensory function were reversed.CONCLUSION: Gingival microcirculation and somatosensory function seem impaired in patients with periodontitis and are reversed following non-surgical periodontal therapy.CLINICAL RELEVANCE: LDF and QST may be appropriate tools to further characterize gingival inflammation and treatment responses in periodontitis.

  • Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV : Mapping the Milky Way, Nearby Galaxies, and the Distant Universe
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Astronomical Journal. - : IOP Publishing Ltd. - 0004-6256 .- 1538-3881. ; 154:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We describe the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV), a project encompassing three major spectroscopic programs. The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) is observing hundreds of thousands of Milky Way stars at high resolution and. high signal-to-noise ratios in the near-infrared. The Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey is obtaining spatially resolved spectroscopy for thousands of nearby galaxies (median z similar to 0.03). The extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) is mapping the galaxy, quasar, and neutral gas distributions between z similar to 0.6 and 3.5 to constrain cosmology using baryon acoustic oscillations, redshift space distortions, and the shape of the power spectrum. Within eBOSS, we are conducting two major subprograms: the SPectroscopic IDentification of eROSITA Sources (SPIDERS), investigating X-ray AGNs. and galaxies in X-ray clusters, and the Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS), obtaining spectra of variable sources. All programs use the 2.5 m Sloan Foundation Telescope at the. Apache Point Observatory; observations there began in Summer 2014. APOGEE-2 also operates a second near-infrared spectrograph at the 2.5 m du Pont Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, with observations beginning in early 2017. Observations at both facilities are scheduled to continue through 2020. In keeping with previous SDSS policy, SDSS-IV provides regularly scheduled public data releases; the first one, Data Release 13, was made available in 2016 July.

  • High-temperature wear mechanisms of TiNbWN films : Role of nanocrystalline oxides formation
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Friction. - : Springer. - 2223-7690 .- 2223-7704. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Refractory high/medium entropy nitrides (HENs/MENs) exhibit comprehensive application prospects as protective films on mechanical parts, particularly those subjected to sliding contacts at elevated temperatures. In this study, a new MEN system TiNbWN, forming a single fcc solution, is designed and its wear performance at temperatures ranging from 25 to 750 °C is explored. The wear mechanisms can be rationalized by examining the subsurface microstructural evolutions using the transmission electron microscopy as well as calculating the phase diagrams and interfacial adhesion behavior employing calculation of phase diagram (CALPHAD) and density functional theory (DFT). To be specific, increased wear losses occur in a temperature range of 25–600 °C, being predominantly caused by the thermally-induced hardness degradation; whereas at the ultimate temperature (750 °C), the wear loss is refrained due to the formation of nanocrystalline oxides (WnO3n−2, TiO2, and γTiOx), as synergistically revealed by microscopy and CALPHAD, which not only enhance the mechanical properties of the pristine nitride film, but also act as solid lubricants, reducing the interfacial adhesion. Thus, our work delineates the role of the in situ formed nanocrystalline oxides in the wear mechanism transition of TiNbWN thin films, which could shed light on the high-temperature wear behavior of refractory HEN/MEN films.

  • 4MOST : Project overview and information for the First Call for Proposals
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: The Messenger. - : European Southern Observatory. - 0722-6691. ; 175, s. 3-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We introduce the 4-metre Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope (4MOST), a new high-multiplex, wide-field spectroscopic survey facility under development for the four-metre-class Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) at Paranal. Its key specifications are: a large field of view (FoV) of 4.2 square degrees and a high multiplex capability, with 1624 fibres feeding two low-resolution spectrographs (R = λ/Δλ ~ 6500), and 812 fibres transferring light to the high-resolution spectrograph (R ~ 20 000). After a description of the instrument and its expected performance, a short overview is given of its operational scheme and planned 4MOST Consortium science; these aspects are covered in more detail in other articles in this edition of The Messenger. Finally, the processes, schedules, and policies concerning the selection of ESO Community Surveys are presented, commencing with a singular opportunity to submit Letters of Intent for Public Surveys during the first five years of 4MOST operations.

  • Molecularly Imprinted Fluorescent Test Strip for Direct, Rapid, and Visual Dopamine Detection in Tiny Amount of Biofluid
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Small. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 1613-6810 .- 1613-6829. ; 15:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Paper-based assays for detection of physiologically important species are needed in medical theranostics owning to their superiorities in point of care testing, daily monitoring, and even visual readout by using chromogenic materials. In this work, a facile test strip is developed for visual detection of a neurotransmitter dopamine (DA) based on dual-emission fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles (DE-MIPs). The DE-MIPs, featured with tailor-made DA affinity and good anti-interference, exhibit DA concentration-dependent fluorescent colors, due to the variable ratios of dual-emission fluorescence caused by DA binding and quenching. By facile coating DE-MIPs on a filter paper, the DA test strips are obtained. The resultant test strip, like the simplicity of a pH test paper, shows the potential for directly visual detection of DA levels just by dripping a tiny amount of biofluid sample on it. The test result of real serum samples demonstrates that the DA strip enables to visually and semiquantitatively detect DA within 3 min by using only 10 microL of serum samples and with a low detection limit ((100-150) x 10(-9) m) by naked eye. This work thus offers a facile and efficient strategy for rapid, visual, and on-site detection of biofluids in clinic.

  • EXTENDED RELATIVISTIC CONFIGURATION INTERACTION AND MANY-BODY PERTURBATION CALCULATIONS OF SPECTROSCOPIC DATA FOR THE N 6 CONFIGURATIONS IN Ne-LIKE IONS BETWEEN Cr XV AND Kr XXVII
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : American Astronomical Society. - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 226:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Level energies, wavelengths, electric dipole, magnetic dipole, electric quadrupole, and magnetic quadrupole transition rates, oscillator strengths, and line strengths from combined relativistic con guration interaction and many-body perturbation calculations are reported for the 201 ne-structure states of the 2s22p6, 2s22p53l, 2s2p63l, 2s22p54l, 2s2p64l, 2s22p55l, and 2s22p56l con gurations in all Ne-like ions between Cr XV and Kr XXVII. Calculated level energies and transition data are compared with experiments from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and CHIANTI databases, and other recent benchmark calculations. The mean energy difference with the NIST experiments is only 0.05%. The present calculations signi cantly increase the amount of accurate spectroscopic data for the n > 3 states in a number of Ne-like ions of astrophysical interest. A complete data set should be helpful for analyzing new observations from solar and other astrophysical sources, and is also likely to be useful for modeling and diagnosing a variety of plasmas, including astronomical and fusion plasma.
