  • Modelling commodity flows on trade networks : Retrospect and prospect
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: New Frontiers in Regional Science. - London : Palgrave Macmillan. - 0333484495 - 033353106X ; , s. 135-156
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this chapter we examine various analytical approaches which are pertinent to an important area of research in which, according to Isard and Dean ([30]), regional scientists ought to be more actively involved. This is the estimation of commodity flow (or trade share) matrices across world trade networks. Although spatial variables such as distance, location and transport cost clearly have a significant impact on the quantity and structure of trade, these effects are often ignored or downplayed by international trade economists. Our task is to redress this imbalance partly by strengthening the case for combined spatial interaction-equilibrium approaches to world trade analysis.

  • Värderas godstransporter rätt vid järnvägsinvesteringar? : En granskning av Banverkets investeringsmodell
  • 1994

  • A Spatial Computable General Equilibrium Model
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Transportation and general equilibrium models. - Venezia : Universita di Venezia.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We present a spatial computable general equilibrium model for which the Walras' law is employed to articulate the general equilibrium of a spatially separated economy while Wardrop's first principle is used to enuniciate the flow equilibrium on a general transportaion network. A price and transportation cost dependent input-output matrix is employed to alleviate the need for explicit supply and factor demand functions found in traditional Samuelson-Takayama-Judge spatial price equilibrium models. A detailed transportation network presentation is employed to more precisely predict commodity movements. A numerical example with constant net out matrix is also presented.

  • Affinities and frictions of trade networks
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: The annals of regional science. - 0570-1864 .- 1432-0592. ; 28:3, s. 243-261
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper formulates a theoretical framework in which the analysis starts with supplier-customer links of micro type. From this we derive aggregate trade links between nodes in a spatial network. It is shown how affinities and barriers shape and influence the establishment of customer links, and how this forms aggregate patterns of flows. The framework is applied to three types of models for determining trade patterns — random discrete choice, information theory and gravity models. Essentially equivalent solutions are derived.

  • Affinities and Network Attributes in Sweden's Trade with Europe
  • 1993
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A combined time series and cross-section data set is used in order to estimate network properties in the Swedish export to Europe. These properties are related to product cycle phenomena, and to a classification of commodities into product and price competitive. The estimated models combine a characterization of the nodes in the trade network with a representation of link attributes in order to explain the direction and amount of trade for different commodities. The study supports the assumption that differences in market perfornance is associated with differences in the demand for links with specific attributes. It also shows that trade patterns are influenced by economic and cultural affinities between pairs of countries.

  • Production and trade in interacting economies : a survey of applied equilibrium models
  • 1990
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A class of models for analyses of the interaction between economic structure and transportation system in spatially separated economies is discussed. The model class, applied multisector network equilibrium models (AMNE) is presented and existing models, such as Input–Output, CGE, ICGE, SPE and FNE models, are interpreted as special cases.Especially ICGE models and a set of linearized ICGE models are considered. This type of models will have an increasing importance in studies of infrastructure investments, in particular in the context of the integration process within the European Community.
