  • High resolution optical waveform sampling using fiber-optic parametric amplifiers
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: 2008 IEEE/LEOS Winter Topical Meeting Series; Sorrento; Italy; 14 January 2008 through 16 January 2008. - 9781424415953 ; , s. 55-56
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Techniques to analyze optical waveforms with high resolution are discussed. Emphasis is on all-optical sampling using FOPAs that offer high resolution with excellent sensitivity.

  • Nonlinear optical fiber based high resolution all-optical waveform sampling
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Laser and Photonics Reviews. - : Wiley. - 1863-8899 .- 1863-8880. ; 1:3, s. 231-248
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When there is a need to accurately characterize optical waveforms and, it is not surprising that some of the best, albeit only recently established, techniques to do this rely on all-optical phenomena. Some basic reasons why all-optical sampling holds great promise as a very useful tool well into the foreseeable future are that there are no ringing phenomena with associated waveform distortion as in electronic sampling due to impedance mismatch, and that the time resolution can be made extremely high (

  • Nonlinearity-based all-optical sampling of ultrahigh-bandwidth optical signals
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering. - : SPIE. - 0277-786X .- 1996-756X. ; 5596, s. 319-331
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We demonstrate an all-optical waveform sampling system with simultaneous sub-mW optical signal sensitivity (20 dB SNR) and sub-picosecond temporal resolution over more than 60 nm optical bandwidth. The optical sampling was implemented by four-wave mixing in a 10 m highly nonlinear fiber using a sampling pulse source with a sampling pulse peak power of only 16 W. The sampling performance was evaluated in terms of sensitivity, temporal resolution and optical bandwidth with respect to fiber length, sampling pulse source wavelength offset from the zero-dispersion wavelength of the highly nonlinear fiber, sampling pulse peak power and walk-off due to chromatic dispersion. We also present a summary of the available methods to achieve polarization-independent optical sampling.

  • Transmitter mask testing for 28 GBaud PM-QPSK
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Optical Communication (ECOC 2013), 39th European Conference and Exhibition on. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology. - 9781849197595 ; , s. 282 - 284
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We suggest a method for pass/fail testing of PM-QPSK transmitters. The test is based on mask testing with time-resolved EVM and accepts transmitters where individual impairments cause less than 0.5 dB OSNR penalty. The design of the test is performed by computer simulations followed by experimental verification of some key results.

  • Third-order dispersion compensation using a phase modulator
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Journal of Lightwave Technology. - 0733-8724 .- 1558-2213. ; 20:5, s. 1188-1197
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Compensation of third-order dispersion in a fiber-optic transmission system using a phase modulator is studied both theoretically and experimentally. A sinusoidal signal is used as modulation function, where the amplitude and phase delay are optimized. The 2-ps input pulses (160-Gb/s compatible) were transmitted through a 626-km fiber link, where the characteristic oscillating tail was measured with a 1.6-ps resolution optical sampling system. When applying the phase modulation, the oscillating tail was significantly suppressed. The pulses were also used in a 160-Gb/s transmission experiment, where the eye diagrams were measured with the sampling system. Numerical simulations and practical experiments showed excellent agreement.
