  • Storm runoff simulation based on the spatially distributed runoff curve number and time variant routing methods
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Methodology in Hydrology. - Wallingford, England : IAHS. - 9781901502930 ; , s. 186-194
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this study, a GIS-based, simple and easily performed modelling approach was proposed to simulate storm runoff response processes with consideration of spatial and temporal variability of runoff generation and flow routing through the hillslope and river network. The watershed was discretized into grid cells, and the river network was delineated from the DEM by use of GIS. In the modelling approach, the US Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service (SCS) curve number (CN) method in its differential form was used to calculate surface runoff (or excess rainfall) for each grid cell. The surface runoff was then routed to the watershed outlet using an improved spatially distributed travel time method. The approach was applied to simulate eight storm runoff events in the Jiaokou Reservoir watershed, a sub-basin of the Yongjiang River basin in southeast China. The results showed that the proposed approach predicted the runoff processes with an average efficiency of 0.94.

  • Applications and Developments of Anaerobic Technology in China
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Anaerobic Biotechnology: Environmental Protection and Resource Recovery. - : IMPERIAL COLLEGE PRESS. - 9781783267927 - 9781783267903 ; , s. 297-335
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Chinese government has been promoting the anaerobic treatment technology not only for pollution control but also for bioenergy recovery. Millions of decentralized anaerobic digesters have been built using animal manure and crop stalk as feedstock to improve the sanitary conditions and to produce biogas for heating and lighting for farmers and rural communities. Also, there are 22,570 medium to large sized anaerobic projects built for centralized animal manure treatment. In addition, over 2,000 medium to large anaerobic systems have been installed since 2000s for the treatment of industrial wastewaters including alcohol, starch, pulp and paper using technologies such as CSTR, UASB, EGSB, IC, etc. Overall, more than 25,100 medium to large sized anaerobic systems are now in operation in rural China, producing annually 7.5x109 m3 of biogas. Based on Chinese government’s 12th Five-Year Plan, biogas output will reach 21x109 m3 by 2020 from treatment of industrial wastewater, poultry wastes, municipal wastes and wastewater sludge; this amount will double by 2050. This Chapter is to summarize the development of anaerobic technology in China in the countryside as well as in industrial wastewater treatment. A number of case studies are present.

  • Clinical Research with Advanced Diffusion Encoding Methods in MRI
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Advanced Diffusion Encoding Methods in MRI. - Cambridge : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 2044-2548 .- 2044-253X. ; 2020-January:24, s. 406-429
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter offers a comprehensive summary of applications of advanced diffusion encoding methods in MRI within a narrowly defined area of in vivo human measurements with imaging read-out and voxel-by-voxel data analysis. The list of methods comprises tensor-valued encoding to investigate cell densities, shapes, and orientations in heterogeneous tissues, time/frequency-dependent encoding for estimating structural length scales, adjustable velocity-encoding to monitor flow in the microcapillary network, double encoding with varying mixing times to assess diffusional exchange between distinct tissue microenvironments and across cell membranes, and relaxation-diffusion correlation to resolve and separately characterize tissue microenvironments in terms of their local chemical composition and microstructure. The shown examples include proof-of-concept measurements on healthy volunteers, pilot investigations of pathologies, and clinical research involving 10-100 subjects. Studied organs include brain, breast, prostate, liver, kidney, placenta, muscle, and peripheral nerve, with examples of pathologies from tumors, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, stroke, neurocysticercosis, pre-eclampsia, and chronic exertional compartment syndrome.

  • From Women’s Space to Gendering the Public Sphere : Ai Xiaoming’s Practice of Everyday Life and Activism
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Routledge Handbook of Chinese Gender and Sexuality. - 9781003273943 ; , s. 353-368
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • How do Chinese activists and intellectuals continue to make a social impact under heightened repression? In particular, how do female activists and intellectuals cope with political repression in addition to the structural gender bias already present in Chinese society? This chapter examines the life and activism of feminist scholar and independent filmmaker Ai Xiaoming. Despite being banned from public life by the Chinese authorities, Ai has made creative use of her residential spaces for social causes while fulfilling her traditional gendered role as the main caregiver in the family. In doing so, she has redrawn the boundaries between the personal and the political, transformed domestic space into semi-public space, created virtual and counter-public spaces, and reinvented the social meaning of her gendered role. As an example of ‘the personal is political’, Ai’s story highlights the gendered bias of the public sphere and invites us to rethink the domestic and the private as spaces where Chinese female intellectuals can make important social interventions.
