  • Recent Third Pole’s rapid warming accompanies cryospheric melt and water cycle intensification and interactions between monsoon and environment: multi-disciplinary approach with observation, modeling and analysis
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Bulletin of The American Meteorological Society. - 0003-0007 .- 1520-0477. ; :March, s. 423-444
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Third Pole (TP) is experiencing rapid warming and is currently in its warmest period in the past 2,000 years. This paper reviews the latest development in multidisciplinary TP research associated with this warming. The rapid warming facilitates intense and broad glacier melt over most of the TP, although some glaciers in the northwest are advancing. By heating the atmosphere and reducing snow/ice albedo, aerosols also contribute to the glaciers melting. Glacier melt is accompanied by lake expansion and intensification of the water cycle over the TP. Precipitation has increased over the eastern and northwestern TP. Meanwhile, the TP is greening and most regions are experiencing advancing phenological trends, although over the southwest there is a spring phenological delay mainly in response to the recent decline in spring precipitation. Atmospheric and terrestrial thermal and dynamical processes over the TP affect the Asian monsoon at different scales. Recent evidence indicates substantial roles that mesoscale convective systems play in the TP’s precipitation as well as an association between soil moisture anomalies in the TP and the Indian monsoon. Moreover, an increase in geohazard events has been associated with recent environmental changes, some of which have had catastrophic consequences caused by glacial lake outbursts and landslides. Active debris flows are growing in both frequency of occurrences and spatial scale. Meanwhile, new types of disasters, such as the twin ice avalanches in Ali in 2016, are now appearing in the region. Adaptation and mitigation measures should be taken to help societies’ preparation for future environmental challenges. Some key issues for future TP studies are also discussed.

  • Calorimetric evidence for two phase transitions in Calorimetric evidence for two phase transitions in Ba1−xKxFe2As2 with fermion pairing and quadrupling states
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Nature Research. - 2041-1723. ; 14:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Materials that break multiple symmetries allow the formation of four-fermion condensates above the superconducting critical temperature (T c). Such states can be stabilized by phase fluctuations. Recently, a fermionic quadrupling condensate that breaks the Z 2 time-reversal symmetry was reported in Ba1−xKxFe2As2. A phase transition to the new state of matter should be accompanied by a specific heat anomaly at the critical temperature where Z 2 time-reversal symmetry is broken (TcZ2>Tc). Here, we report on detecting two anomalies in the specific heat of Ba1−xKxFe2As2 at zero magnetic field. The anomaly at the higher temperature is accompanied by the appearance of a spontaneous Nernst effect, indicating the breakdown of Z 2 symmetry. The second anomaly at the lower temperature coincides with the transition to a zero-resistance state, indicating the onset of superconductivity. Our data provide the first example of the appearance of a specific heat anomaly above the superconducting phase transition associated with the broken time-reversal symmetry due to the formation of the novel fermion order.

  • Geometrical attacks resilient statistical watermark decoder using polar harmonic Fourier moments
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Franklin Institute. - : Elsevier BV. - 0016-0032 .- 1879-2693. ; 360:7, s. 4493-4518
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a new robust multiplicative watermark detector. Due to the strong robustness against various attacks, polar harmonic Fourier moment (PHFM) magnitudes are used as the employed watermark carrier. The distribution of PHFM magnitudes is highly non-Gaussian and can be properly modeled by a heavy-tailed probability density function (PDF). In this paper, we proved that Weibull distribution can suitably fit the distribution of PHFM magnitudes, and based on this, we presented a statistics-based watermark decoder by using the Weibull as a prior for the PHFM magnitudes. In watermark embedding, a multiplicative manner was used to embed watermark information in PHFM magnitudes of the highest entropy blocks to achieve better robustness and imperceptibility. In watermark detection, we developed a Weibull distribution-based statistical watermark decoder, which uses the maximum likelihood (ML) decision rule. Compared with Bessel K form (BKF), Cauchy, and generalized Gaussian (GG)-based decoders, the Weibull-based decoder demonstrates stronger robustness. In addition, the proposed watermark decoder is more robust against geometrical and common image processing attacks than existing statistical watermark decoders.
