    • OBJECTIVE: To study the variation of HCV 5'-NCR and core gene in serial sera collected from patients with HCV infection. METHODS: Serial sera were collected from 4 plasma-donors with HCV infection. 5'-NCR and core gene were amplified, sequenced and analyzed using software. RESULTS: All the sequences obtained from the serial sera of patients with HCV infection were 1b and 2a subtypes. The variation of 5'-NCR only related to the genotype, and not associated with patients and time of serum collection. However, the sequences of core gene were not identical in HCV strains isolated from different patients. The sequences of those two regions of the same genotype isolated from the same patient did not change with time. CONCLUSION: 5'-NCR is more conserved than the core region and the genotype is the major cause of gene variation. No change in sequences of those two regions is found at the different points of time.

    • High-spin states of Cs-126 have been populated via the Cd-116(N-14, 4n) Cs-126 reaction. The experiment was performed at Niels Bohr Institute in Denmark in 1991. After careful data analysis, most of the previously-known bands have been pushed up to much higher spins and 3 new rotational sequences have been identified. Spin, parity and configuration assignments are tentatively proposed for all of the observed bands.

  • Mechanism of periodically distributed fracture in reinforced concrete beam under uniaxial tension

    • A numerical code RFPA3D(Three-Dimension Realistic Failure Process Analysis) is employeel to simulate the three-dimensional failure process of reinforced concrete under uniaxial tension. Then the analysis focuses on the stress distribution during the failure process and failure mechanism of the concrete and reinforcement. The numerical tests indicate the periodically distributed fracture in the reinforced concrete structure and the numerical analysis reproduces the complete process of the fracture initiation, infilling and saturation, 3D numerical tests with different thickness of concrete covers reveal that the eritical value of the fracture spacing increases and the crack numbers decreases with increasing ratio of the thickness of the concrete cover to that of the steel bar
