Simulation of braking of railway wheel
- 2003
-
Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
- LKAB has tried new iron ore wagons for the 30 tonnes axle load. They got problems with cracking and material removal from the rim of the wheels during the tests. Martensite, which is more prone to cracking than other microstructures, was found at these locations. The initial material microstructure is supposed to contain no martensite. The purpose of this investigation is to find whether the thermal cycle due to braking, possibly with assistance of the mechanical load, can cause martensite formation

Measurement and modeling of residual stress in a welded Haynes® 25 cylinder

Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
- An experimental and simulation study of residual stresses was made in the vicinity of a gas tungsten arc weld, used to join a hemispherical end cap to a cylinder. The capped cylinder is used in a satellite application and was fabricated from a Co-based Haynes® 25 alloy. The cylinder was 34.7 mm in outer diameter and 3.3 mm in thickness. The experimental measurements were made by neutron diffraction and the simulation used the implicit Marc finite element code. The experimental resolution was limited to approximately 3 mm parallel to the axis of the cylinder (the weld was 6 mm in the same direction) and comparison over the same volume of the finite element prediction showed general agreement. Subject to the limited spatial resolution, the largest experimentally measured tensile residual stress was 180 MPa, located at the middle of the weld. However, the predictions suggest that there are regions in the weld where average tensile residual stresses as much as 400 MPa exist. One qualitative disparity between the model and the experiments was that the measurement included a larger degree of asymmetry on either side of the weld than predicted by the model.

An extension of the Landau and Levin-Steckin inequalities

Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
- The authors prove an inequality for sums, which generalizes both Landau's sharpening of Carlson's inequality and the corresponding complementary result by Levin and Ste\v{c}kin. The inequality is optimal, in the sense that necessary and sufficient conditions on the parameters for which the inequality holds are given. In some cases, sharp constants are obtained, also in situations not covered by the classical results.

Carlson type inequalities for finite sums and integrals on bounded intervals
- 2005
-
Ingår i: Australian Mathematical Society. Bulletin. - Cambridge University Press. - 0004-9727. ; 71:2

Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
- We investigate Carlson type inequalities for finite sums, that is, inequalities of the form ∑mk=1ak < C (∑mk=1ka1akr+1) μ(∑mk=1ka2akr+1)λ, to hold for some constant C independent of the finite, non-zero set a1,⋯,am of non-negative numbers. We find constants C which are strictly smaller than the sharp constants in the corresponding infinite series case. Moreover, corresponding results for integrals over bounded intervals are given and a case with any finite number of factors on the right-hand side is proved

Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
- In this survey, we explain and discuss some recent results concerning the close connection between Carlson type inequalities and interpolation theory. In particular, we point out that a fairly general Carlson type inequality can be used to extend the usefulness of the Gustavsson-Peetre $\langle·\rangle_\phi$ interpolation method

Striatal dopamine D2 binding is related to frontal BOLD response during updating of long-term memory representations.
- 2009
-
Ingår i: NeuroImage. - 1053-8119. ; 46:4, s. 1194-1199

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Multi-modal brain imaging was used to examine the relation between individual differences in resting-state striatal dopamine D2 binding and the magnitude of prefrontal BOLD activation during updating of long-term memory (LTM) representations. Increased activity in the left prefrontal cortex was observed when LTM updating was required, and there was a positive correlation between striatal D2 activity and the magnitude of left prefrontal activity during updating. These findings support predictions from neurocomputational models of a relation of dopaminergic neurotransmission to transient cognitive operations and related brain activity.
