  • RISING: Gamma‐ray Spectroscopy with Radioactive Beams at GSI
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - American Institute of Physics. - 978-0-7354-1328-3 ; 891, s. 99-107
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Rare Isotope Spectroscopic INvestigation at GSI (RISING) project is a major pan‐European collaboration. Its physics aims are the studies of exotic nuclear matter with abnormal proton‐to‐neutron ratios compared with naturally occurring isotopes. RISING combines the FRagment Separator (FRS) which allows relativistic energies and projectile fragmentation reactions with EUROBALL Ge Cluster detectors for γ spectroscopic research. The RISING setup can be used in two different configurations. Either the nuclei of interest are investigated after being stopped or the heavy ions hit a secondary target at relativistic energies and the thereby occurring excitations are studied. For the latter case, MINIBALL Ge detectors and the HECTOR array are used in addition. Example achievements of the Fast Beam setup are presented and compared to various shell model calculations, while for the Stopped Beam setup initial results are shown.

  • K-isomers in very neutron-rich nuclei around mass 180
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. Topical Issues. - 0281-1847. ; T88, s. 72-76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • gamma-spectroscopy methods have been used to search for microsecond isomers among the fragmentation products of a 1 GeV/nucleon Pb-208 beam. In particular the population of the known K-pi = 35/2(-) isomer in W-179 has been investigated and several new isomeric decays have been found for neutron rich nuclei in the A approximate to 180-200 mass region. The ground state band of the neutron rich N = 116 system of W-190 has been identified for the first time and we discuss its structure in comparison to neighboring systems.

  • Halo structure of (14)Be
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - American Physical Society. - 1079-7114 .- 0031-9007. ; 86:4, s. 600-603
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The two-neutron halo nucleus (14)Be has been investigated in a kinematically complete measurement of the fragments ((12)Be and neutrons) produced in dissociation at 35 MeV/nucleon on C and Pb targets. Two-neutron removal cross sections, neutron angular distributions, and invariant mass spectra were measured, and the contributions from electromagnetic dissociation (EMD) were deduced. Comparison with three-body model calculations suggests that the halo wave function contains a large nu(2s(1/2))(2) admixture. The EMD invariant mass spectrum exhibited enhanced strength near threshold consistent with a nonresonant soft-dipole excitation.

  • Three-body correlations in Borromean halo nuclei
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - American Physical Society. - 0556-2813. ; 64:6, s. 61301-1-61301-5
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three-body correlations in the dissociation of two-neutron halo nuclei are explored using a technique based on intensity interferometry and Dalitz plots. This approach provides for the combined treatment of both the n-n and core-n interactions in the exit channel. As an example, the breakup of 14Be into 12Be+n+n by Pb and C targets has been analyzed and the halo n-n separation extracted. Evidence for a finite delay between the emission of the neutrons in the reaction on the C target was observed and is attributed to 13Be resonances populated in sequential breakup.

  • Neutron Momentum Distributions from Core Break-up Reactions of Halo Nuclei
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Europhysics Letters. - 0295-5075. ; 30:1, s. 19-24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neutron angular distributions from violent break-up reactions of Li-11 and Be-11 have been measured at 28 MeV/u and 280 MeV/u and at 41 MeV/u and 460 MeV/u, respectively. The derived neutron momentum distributions show a narrow component in transverse momentum that is within uncertainties independent of beam energy and target charge. This component is suggested to be simply related to the momentum distribution of the loosely bound halo neutron(s) in the projectiles.

  • Isomers in neutron-rich A approximate to 190 nuclides from Pb-208 fragmentation
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. Hadrons and Nuclei. - Springer. - 1434-6001. ; 23:2, s. 201-215
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Relativistic projectile fragmentation of Pb-208 has been used to produce isomers in neutron-rich, A approximate to 190 nuclides. A forward-focusing spectrometer provided ion-by-ion mass and charge identification. The detection of gamma-rays emitted by stopped ions has led to the assignment of isomers in Ta-188, W-190, Re-192, Re-193, Os-195, Ir-197, Ir-198, Pt-200, Pt-201, Pt-202 and Au-203, with half-lives ranging from approximately 10 ns to 1 ms. Tentative isomer information has been found also for Er-174, Er-175, Hf-185, Re-191, Re-194 and Ir-199. In most cases, time-correlated, singles gamma-ray events provided the first spectroscopic data on excited states for each nuclide. In Pt-200 and Pt-201. the assignments are supported by gamma-gamma coincidences. Isomeric ratios provide additional information, such as half-life and transition energy constraints in particular cases. The level structures of the platinum isotopes are discussed, and comparisons are made with isomer systematics.

  • Crossing the dripline to N-11 using elastic resonance scattering
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 0556-2813. ; 6203:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The level structure of the unbound nucleus N-11 has been studied by C-10+p elastic resonance scattering in inverse geometry with the LISE3 spectrometer at GANIL, using a C-10 beam with an energy of 9.0 MeV/ nucleon. An additional measurement was done at the A1200 spectrometer at MSU. The excitation function above the C-10+p threshold has been determined up to 5 MeV. A potential-model analysis revealed three resonance states at energies 1.27(-0.05)(+0.18) MeV (Gamma = 1.44 +/- 0.2 MeV), 2.01(-0.05)(+0.15) MeV (Gamma = 0.84 +/- 0.2 MeV), and 3.75 +/- 0.05 MeV (Gamma = 0.60 +/- 0.05 MeV) with the spin-parity assignments I-pi=1/2+,1/2,-,5/2+, respectively. Hence, N-11 is shown to have a ground state parity inversion completely analogous to its mirror partner Be-11. A narrow resonance in the excitation function at 4.33 +/- 0.05 MeV was also observed and assigned spin parity 3/2-.
