  • Understanding institutional work through social interaction in highly institutionalized settings : Lessons from public healthcare organizations
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Management. - : Elsevier BV. - 0956-5221 .- 1873-3387. ; 36:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present study describes and analyses how social interactions between individual actors form institutional work in the highly institutionalized setting of healthcare organizations. Based on a qualitative case study, we affirm that social interactions mainly form maintaining institutional work, thus primarily upholding the rigidity of healthcare organizations. Social interactions either preserve distance between different actors or prevent their mutual influence, which decreases the effects of institutional complexity. However, when institutional work goes beyond maintaining, social interaction is characterized by processes of claiming influence and granting influence between individual actors who adhere to different institutional logics, which allows effects of institutional complexity. Such institutional work is contingent upon physicians' strong power position, and granting influence is likely to precede claiming influence.

  • Hybrid Owner Managers in Family Firms
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IFERA 2020 Proceedings: Generations to Generations. - : IFERA Inc.. - 9791220067300 ; , s. 53-53
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper is based on an in-depth case study of two family firms in the newspaper industry. This industrycombines institutional logics, such as journalistic and management logic (Achtenhagen, & Raviola, 2009), as wellas family logic in these two cases. This paper intends to make the following contributions. First, we highlight thatfamily owners are central actors in the process of balancing different institutional logics. Further, we analyzehow family members can become hybrid owner-managers, meaning that they have access to all institutionallogics and become central actors in the balancing process.

  • Collaborative Public Management : Coordinated Value Propositions among Public Service Organisations
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Public Management Review. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1471-9037 .- 1471-9045. ; 22:6, s. 791-812
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Drawing from collaborative public management, this article seeks to contribute topublic service logic by focusing on what precedes the public service user’s realizationof value: the value proposition. A new care model for elderly people with multiplechronic diseases shows that coordinators with an inter-organizational mission, ver-tical and horizontal supporting structures, trust established through relationships, and recognition of service systems’embeddedness in social systems are pivotal forthe ability of public service organizations to develop coordinated value propositions. The contribution to policy and practice is an increased understanding of a coherent, rather than fragmented, welfare system for users/citizens.

  • Providing healthcare through “value shops” : impact on professional fulfilment for physicians and nurses
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Health Governance. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 2059-4631 .- 2059-464X. ; 25:2, s. 127-136
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to empirically explore and demonstrate the ability of healthcare professionals to attain professional fulfilment when providing healthcare inspired by “value shops”. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative case study incorporating interviews and observations was conducted. Findings: The empirical data suggest that the professional fulfilment of both physicians and nurses is facilitated when care is organized through “value shops”. Both groups of professionals state that they are able to return to their “professional core”. Originality/value: The beneficial outcomes of organizing healthcare inspired by the “value shop” have previously been explored in terms of efficiency and quality. However, the professional fulfilment of healthcare professionals when providing such care has not been explicitly addressed. Professional fulfilment is vital in order to safeguard high-quality care, as well as healthcare professionals' involvement and engagement in implementing quality improvements. This paper highlights the fact that care provision inspired by the “value shop” may facilitate professional fulfilment, which further strengthens the potential positive outcomes of the “value shop” when utilized in a healthcare setting.

  • Aircraft Assembly Ramp-Up Planning Using a Hybrid Simulation-Optimization Approach
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - Winter Simulation Conference. - : IEEE. - 9781728194998 - 9781728195001 ; , s. 3045-3056
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Assembly processes have the most influencing and long-term impact on the production volume and cost in the aerospace industry. One of the most crucial factors in aircraft assembly lines design during the conceptual design phase is ramp-up planning that synchronizes the production rates at the globally dispersed facilities. Inspired by a pilot study performed with an aerospace company, this paper introduces a hybrid simulation-optimization approach for addressing an assembly production chain ramp-up problem that takes into account: (1) the interdependencies of the ramp-up profiles between final assembly lines and its upstream lines; (2) workforce planning with various learning curves; (3) inter-plant buffer and lead-time optimization, in the problem formulation. The approach supports the optimization of the ramp-up profile that minimizes the times the aircraft assemblies stay in the buffers and simultaneously attains zero backlog. It also generates the required simulation-optimization data for supporting the decision-making activities in the industrialization projects.

  • Shaping sustainable markets : A conceptual framework illustrated by the case of biogas in Sweden
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions. - : Elsevier. - 2210-4224 .- 2210-4232. ; 36, s. 303-320
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By merging findings from transition studies with recent literature on market-shaping, this paper outlines a conceptual framework that describes the shaping of sustainable markets. The framework comprises three critical processes: enabling exchange practices, proving the system and constructing the narrative. Individually, these processes generate different kinds of value – traded, demonstrated and expected value – and the value output from each process serves as input to the other two processes. Hence the value streams link the processes together. We illustrate the framework by analyzing market-shaping processes for biogas in Sweden. The case analysis shows how public and private actors have engaged in a multitude of activities that have built up the market-shaping processes. The analysis highlights the recursive nature of sustainable market-shaping, showing how key actors must repeatedly respond to tensions resulting from growth and aspirations of growth.
