  • Comments on the paper ‘Static solutions of the Vlasov–Einstein system’ by G. Wolansky
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1432-0673 .- 0003-9527. ; 235:1, s. 783-791
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this note we address the attempted proof of the existence of static solutions to the Einstein–Vlasov system as given in Wolansky (Arch Ration Mech Anal 156:205–230, 2001). We focus on a specific and central part of the proof which concerns a variational problem with an obstacle. We show that two important claims in Wolansky (2001) are incorrect and we question the validity of a third claim. We also discuss the variational problem and its difficulties with the aim of stimulating further investigation of this intriguing problem in particular answering the question of whether or not static solutions of the Einstein–Vlasov system can be found as local minimizers of an energy-Casimir functional.

  • Tuning the properties of regenerated cellulose : Effects of polarity and water solubility of the coagulation medium
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Carbohydrate Polymers. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0144-8617 .- 1879-1344. ; 236
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, the effect of different alcohols and esters as a coagulation medium in the regeneration of cellulose dissolved in an aqueous LiOH-urea-based solvent was thoroughly investigated using various methods such as solid state NMR, X-ray diffraction, water contact angle, oxygen gas permeability, mechanical testing, and scanning electron microscopy. It was observed that several material properties of the regenerated cellulose films follow trends that correlate to the degree of cellulose II crystallinity, which is determined to be set by the miscibility of the coagulant medium (nonsolvent) and the aqueous alkali cellulose solvent rather than the nonsolvents’ polarity. This article provides an insight, thus creating a possibility to carefully tune and control the cellulose material properties when tailor-made for different applications.

  • Sport and Masculinities in Sweden : Performance and the Notion of Gender Equality
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: The Palgrave Handbook of Masculinity and Sport. - Cham : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9783030197995 - 9783030197988 ; , s. 465-481
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the chapter is to describe and analyse how the ‘doing’ of masculinity has been performed in Sweden over time, and within two cultural contexts—that of organized (mainly competitive) sport, and physical education in school. Situated within the development of the Swedish welfare state, the research shows that the concept and idea of gender equality is largely a hegemonic sociocultural ideal. At the political and sociocultural level, there is an ongoing movement towards gender-neutral ways of constructing and understanding bodies as well as sport and physical education in Sweden. At the same time the research shows that on an interrelational level, this picture is less clear, as physical education teachers, athletes, coaches and others seemingly tend to talk about gender equality as an ideal, but sometimes fail to practise this in day-to-day living. Nevertheless, embedded in and part of social life at large, the chapter argues that relational patterns are, and will hopefully continue to be, greatly influenced by and part of the Swedish welfare system, which by necessity influences men’s choices in contemporary Sweden concerning how to ‘do’ masculinity and physical activity in relation to more gender inclusive configurations.
