  • Mapping of the "intervention channels" as a part of the community diagnosis process of the Stockholm Cancer Prevention Program (SCPP)
  • 1988
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian journal of primary health care. Supplement. - 0284-6020. ; 1, s. 65-72
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Stockholm Cancer Prevention Program is to our knowledge the first community intervention program in the world aiming of a reduction in the incidence of cancer. A community diagnosis model has been used in the planning. A thorough description of different organizations in the local communities of Stockholm has been made. A model for describing the organizations or collaborators has been worked out, including description of the organizations and its environment, objectives of activities, possible activities to reach the objectives, resources needed, incentives for collaborative partners, formative evaluation criteria and anticipated problems and solutions. The main method of description has been by use of keyperson interviews. This was found to be a good method to reach commitment to the program.

  • Incidence and prevalence of juvenile chronic arthritis : a population survey
  • 1987
  • Ingår i: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. - 0003-4967 .- 1468-2060. ; 46:4, s. 277-81
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In a population based epidemiological survey of juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA), performed in Western Sweden in 1983, an incidence of 12/100,000 was found. The estimated prevalence was 56/100,000. Subgroup distribution showed a preponderance of mono- and pauciarticular forms. The peak age of onset was between 0 and 4 years of age. Girls predominated over boys in a ratio of 3:2. Overall, 30% were antinuclear antibody (ANA) positive, 9% rheumatoid factor (RF) positive, and eye involvement occurred in 10% of the children. The results suggest differences in population based studies of JCA compared with previously reported hospital based series.

  • Temperature effects on consolidation properties of sulphide clays
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the twelfth international conference on soil mechanics and foundation engineering. Technical papers / 3. - Rotterdam : Balkema Publishers, A.A. / Taylor & Francis The Netherlands. - 9061918936 ; , s. 2087-2090
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When heat energy is stored in clay, the geotechnical properties will change as a result of changing temperature. This paper presents results from laboratory tests on sulphide rich silty clays. The tests are ordinary oedometer tests and creep tests in the temperature range 5 to 55°C. It is shown that even a small deviation of the testing temperature from the in situ temperature is of importance for the results. Based on the test results, a creep-temperature equation is proposed

  • The development of somatic embryos in tissue-cultures initiated from immature embryos of Picea abies (Norway spruce)
  • 1985
  • Ingår i: Plant Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9452 .- 1873-2259. ; 38:1, s. 53-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Embryos of Picea abies at various developmental stages were cultured on defined media supplemented with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) (10−5 M) and N6-benzyladenine (BA) (5×10−6 M). The immature embryos gave rise to a highly friable and embryogenic callus which could be maintained by subculture and contained polarized and organized structures (somatic embryos) consisting of long highly vacuolated cells at one end (suspensor) and a group of small meristematic cells at the other (embryonal end). These structures closely resembled the early stages of normal zygotic embryogeny. Upon further culture these structures formed a bipolar shoot-root axis with an independent and closed vascular system. In many instances either the shoot or the root meristems failed to differentiate. Embryogenic tissues obtained on agar media could be transferred to liquid media and maintained by subculture for at least 6 months. The development of somatic embryos was observed in the liquid cultures also.

  • Changes of plasma coagulation and fibrinolysis in response to mental stress.
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Thrombosis and haemostasis. - 0340-6245. ; 62:2, s. 767-71
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To study the effects of standardized mental stress (arithmetic and the Stroop color word test) on plasma coagulation and fibrinolysis, blood samples were obtained before, during, and after 20 minutes of mental stress from 10 healthy, non-smoking young males aged 22 to 30 years. Reactions were compared with those observed during physical exercise and infusion of adrenaline. Both von Willebrand factor antigen and factor VIII coagulant activity increased significantly in response to mental stress (95 +/- 28 vs 123 +/- 56%; p less than 0.05 and 125 +/- 54 vs 217 +/- 170%; p less than 0.05, respectively). There was also a significant increase of factor VII coagulant activity (86 +/- 31 vs 108 +/- 51%; p less than 0.05). Furthermore, mental stress caused an activation of the fibrinolytic system with an elevation of tissue plasminogen activator activity and tissue plasminogen activator antigen (0.80 +/- 0.48 vs 1.23 +/- 0.96 IU/ml; p = 0.076 and 4.38 +/- 1.87 vs 5.78 +/- 2.58 IU/ml; p less than 0.01). Fibrinogen concentration increased during stress (1.95 +/- 0.29 vs 2.11 +/- 0.27 g/l; p less than 0.05). Similar but more pronounced responses were observed during exercise and adrenaline infusion. Parallel to the increases in coagulation and fibrinolytic factors there were significant increases in heart rate, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. It is concluded that mental stress has significant effects on plasma coagulation and fibrinolysis, and that it could thus affect important risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
