  • The effects of microstructure, Nb content and secondary Ruddlesden-Popper phase on thermoelectric properties in perovskite CaMn1-xNbxO3 (x=0-0.10) thin films
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: RSC Advances. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 2046-2069. ; 10:13, s. 7918-7926
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • CaMn1-xNbxO3 (x = 0, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.10) thin films have been grown by a two-step sputtering/annealing method. First, rock-salt-structured (Ca,Mn1-x,Nb-x)O thin films were deposited on 11 & x304;00 sapphire using reactive RF magnetron co-sputtering from elemental targets of Ca, Mn and Nb. The CaMn1-xNbxO3 films were then obtained by thermally induced phase transformation from rock-salt-structured (Ca,Mn1-xNbx)O to orthorhombic during post-deposition annealing at 700 degrees C for 3 h in oxygen flow. The X-ray diffraction patterns of pure CaMnO3 showed mixed orientation, while Nb-containing films were epitaxially grown in [101] out of-plane-direction. Scanning transmission electron microscopy showed a Ruddlesden-Popper (R-P) secondary phase in the films, which results in reduction of the electrical and thermal conductivity of CaMn1-xNbxO3. The electrical resistivity and Seebeck coefficient of the pure CaMnO3 film were measured to 2.7 omega cm and -270 mu V K-1 at room temperature, respectively. The electrical resistivity and Seebeck coefficient were reduced by alloying with Nb and was measured to 0.09 omega cm and -145 mu V K-1 for x = 0.05. Yielding a power factor of 21.5 mu W K-2 m(-1) near room temperature, nearly eight times higher than for pure CaMnO3 (2.8 mu W K-2 m(-1)). The power factors for alloyed samples are low compared to other studies on phase-pure material. This is due to high electrical resistivity originating from the secondary R-P phase. The thermal conductivity of the CaMn1-xNbxO3 films is low for all samples and is the lowest for x = 0.07 and 0.10, determined to 1.6 W m(-1) K-1. The low thermal conductivity is attributed to grain boundary scattering and the secondary R-P phase.

  • The δ13C chemostratigraphy of Ordovician global stage stratotypes : geochemical data from the Floian and Sandbian GSSPs in Sweden
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: GFF. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1103-5897 .- 2000-0863. ; 142:1, s. 23-32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The δ13C chemostratigraphy of five of the seven Ordovician global stages has been published previously but no such data have been available from the Floian GSSP and most of the Sandbian GSSP in Sweden. This lack of information has now been remedied by isotope data obtained from series of closely spaced shale samples collected from the Floian stratotype at Diabasbrottet in Västergötland and the Sandbian stratotype at Fågelsång in Scania. Although the bases of these stages cannot be precisely tied to levels of conspicuous δ13C excursions, that of the Floian Stage, which is marked by the appearance of the graptolite Tetragraptus approximatus, is between the closely spaced excursions named LTNICE and BFICE. The base of the Sandbian Stage, which is defined as the appearance level of the graptolite Nemagraptus gracilis, is just below a negative excursion previously known as the “Upper Kukruse Low”, which is nowadays known as the LSNICE. The relations between chemostratigraphy and graptolite and conodont biostratigraphy in the Swedish GSSPs and some coeval key sections in Baltoscandia, China, and America are briefly discussed. It is concluded that the data at hand indicate that there is good regional agreement in these relations.

  • High-grade progression confers poor survival in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Neuroendocrinology. - : S. Karger AG. - 0028-3835 .- 1423-0194. ; 110:11-12, s. 891-898
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION: Little is known about how Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (PanNETs) evolve over time and if changes towards a more aggressive biology correlates with prognosis. The purpose of this study was to characterize changes PanNET differentiation and proliferation over time, and to correlate findings to overall survival (OS).PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study we screened 475 PanNET patients treated at Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden. Sporadic patients with baseline and follow-up tumor samples were included. Pathology reports and available tissue sections were re-evaluated with regard to tumor histopathology and Ki-67 index.RESULTS: Forty-six patients with 106 tumor samples (56 available for pathology re-evaluation) were included. Median Ki-67 index at diagnosis was 7% (range 1-38%), grade 1 n=8, grade 2 n=36, and grade 3 n=2. The median change in Ki-67 index (absolute value; follow-up - baseline) was +14% (range -11 to +80%). Increase in tumor grade occurred in 28 patients (63.6%), the majority from grade 1/2 to grade 3 (n=24, 54.5%). The patients with a high-grade progression had a median OS of 50.2 months compared to 115.1 months in patients without such progression (HR 3.89, 95% CI 1.91-7.94, P<0.001).CONCLUSIONS: A longitudinal increase in Ki-67 index and increase in tumor grade were observed in a majority of PanNETs included in this study. We propose that increase in Ki-67 index and high-grade progression should be investigated further as important biomarkers in PanNET.

  • Swedish snus use is associated with mortality : a pooled analysis of eight prospective studies
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Epidemiology. - : Oxford University Press. - 0300-5771 .- 1464-3685. ; 49:6, s. 2041-2050
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: The health consequences of the use of Swedish snus, including its relationship with mortality, have not been fully established. We investigated the relationship between snus use and all-cause and cause-specific mortality (death due to cardiovascular diseases, cancer diseases and all other reasons, respectively) in a nationwide collaborative pooling project.METHODS: We followed 169 103 never-smoking men from eight Swedish cohort studies, recruited in 1978-2010. Shared frailty models with random effects at the study level were used in order to estimate adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of mortality associated with snus use.RESULTS: Exclusive current snus users had an increased risk of all-cause mortality (aHR 1.28, 95% CI 1.20-1.35), cardiovascular mortality (aHR 1.27, 95% CI 1.15-1.41) and other cause mortality (aHR 1.37, 95% CI 1.24-1.52) compared with never-users of tobacco. The risk of cancer mortality was also increased (aHR 1.12, 95% CI 1.00-1.26). These mortality risks increased with duration of snus use, but not with weekly amount.CONCLUSIONS: Snus use among men is associated with increased all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, with death from other causes and possibly with increased cancer mortality.

  • Increased iron absorption in patients with chronic heart failure and iron deficiency
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cardiac Failure. - : Elsevier BV. - 1071-9164 .- 1532-8414. ; 26:5, s. 440-443
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is common in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF), but the underlying causes are not fully understood. We investigated whether ID is associated with decreased iron absorption in patients with CHF.Methods and Results: We performed an oral iron-absorption test in 30 patients and 12 controls. The patients had CHF with reduced (n = 15) or preserved (n = 15) ejection fraction and ID, defined as s- ferritin < 100 mu g/L, or s-ferritin 100-299 mu g/L and transferrin saturation < 20%. The controls had no HF or ID and were of similar age and gender. Blood samples were taken before and 2 hours after ingestion of 100 mg ferroglycin sulphate. The primary endpoint was the delta plasma iron at 2 hours. The delta plasma iron was higher in the group with HF than in the control group (median increase 83.8 [61.5;128.5] mu g/dL in HF vs 47.5 [ 30.7;61.5] mu g/dL in controls, P = 0.001), indicating increased iron absorption. There was no significant difference between the groups with preserved or reduced ejection fraction (P = 0.46).Conclusion: We found increased iron absorption in patients with CHF and ID compared to controls without ID and HF, indicating that reduced iron absorption is not a primary cause of the high prevalence of ID in patients with CHF.

  • Co-Developing Sustainability Requirements : Exploring client and municipal perspectives in housing development
  • 2020
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Construction has major environmental, social and economic impacts. Improving sustainability both during and after the construction process is widely discussed among a slew of practitioners, governments and researchers. Construction clients, such as housing developers, are considered key actors for change and innovation because of their position to set requirements when procuring construction projects. The process of developing project requirements has therefore mainly been studied during the construction clients’ procurement process. At the same time, municipalities use their position as land owners to drive sustainable development. Land allocation agreements allow municipalities to set project-specific sustainability requirements for construction projects on municipal land. The purpose of this thesis is to explore how municipal sustainability requirements affect housing developers when planning and designing their projects. The research is based on a single empirical case study of an urban development programme comprising multiple parallel and sequential housing construction projects. In this study, the municipality’s and housing developers’ perspectives are explored. The results demonstrate that the housing developers perceive several barriers to implementing municipal sustainability requirements. The three main barriers that were identified are reduced flexibility coupled with uncertainty, conflicting interests coupled with reduced autonomy and interdependencies, and a lack of trust and transparency coupled with interdependencies. The municipal sustainability requirements are initially developed by the municipality for the land allocation agreement. They are then co-developed further by the municipality and the housing developers together through negotiations before being finalised in conjunction with the developers’ procurement process. The study is focused on the period following the housing developers’ signing of land allocation agreements with the municipality and before starting their procurement process. During this period, the housing developers attempt to negotiate municipal sustainability requirements that they anticipate will increase costs, risk and uncertainty and decrease the value of their final product. Negotiations between the housing developers and the municipality can be viewed as value co-creation processes stimulated by functional conflict. These findings build on three papers that are included in the thesis.Contributions are made to literature on the role of construction clients and their perceived barriers to implementing and developing sustainable construction solutions and practices and barriers to change in general. Theoretical contributions are also made to literature on value co-creation in construction by illustrating how clients engage in the co-creation of value with municipalities and other clients. Finally, the theoretical link between value co-creation and functional conflict is studied and developed.

  • Prospective associations between ECG abnormalities and death or myocardial infarction in a cohort of 980 employed, middle-aged Swedish men
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Egyptian Heart Journal. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1110-2608 .- 2090-911X. ; 72:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background In 1993, 1000 randomly selected employed Swedish men aged 45-50 years were invited to a nurse-led health examination with a survey on life style, fasting lab tests, and a 12-lead ECG. A repeat examination was offered in 1998. The ECGs were classified according to the Minnesota Code. Upon ethical approval, endpoints in terms of MI and death over 25 years were collected from Swedish national registers with the purpose of analyzing the independent association of ECG abnormalities as risk factors for myocardial infarction and death. Results Seventy-nine of 977 participants had at least one ECG abnormality 1993 or 1998. One hundred participants had a first MI over the 25 years. Odds ratio for having an MI in the group that had one or more ECG abnormality compared with the group with two normal ECGs was estimated to 3.16. 95%CI (1.74; 5.73), p value 0.0001. One hundred fifty-seven participants had died before 2019. For death, similarly no statistically significant difference was shown, OR 1.52, 95%CI (0.83; 2.76). Conclusions Our study suggests that presence of ST- and R-wave changes is associated with an independent 3-4-fold increased risk of MI after 25 years follow-up, but not of death. A 12-lead resting ECG should be included in any MI risk calculation on an individual level.
