  • Lifetimes of yrast and excited superdeformed states in Gd-150 : effect of particle-hole excitations on the deformation
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 417:1-2, s. 13-19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The quadrupole moments and deformations have been measured for six superdeformed bands in Gd-150. The results indicate evidence for deformation driving properties of both the high-hi intruder and also low-N natural parity states at the superdeformed Fermi surface. Several new transitions have been identified and placed in the low spin non-yrast portion of one of the SD bands.

  • Decay from a superdeformed band in Pb-194
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 53:4, s. R1461-R1464
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three experiments using the (174) Yb(Mg-25,5n)Pb-194 reaction have been undertaken at the Early Implementation of Gammasphere to study the decay of known superdeformed states in Pb-194. A single discrete transition with an energy of 2.746(2) MeV carrying 6(2)% of the full superdeformed band intensity has been identified. A discussion of our results and the assignment of the 2.746-MeV transition as a discrete gamma ray directly connecting the superdeformed 8(+) and low-lying 6(+) levels will be presented.

  • Seizure-induced differential expression of messenger RNAs for neurotrophins and their receptors in genetically fast and slow kindling rats
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Neuroscience. - : Elsevier BV. - 1873-7544 .- 0306-4522. ; 75:1, s. 197-207
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Levels of messenger RNAs for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor and neurotrophin-3, and their high-affinity receptors, TrkB and TrkC, were analysed in the brains of genetically fast and slow kindling rats using in situ hybridization. Basal expression of neurotrophins and Trk messenger RNAs in the hippocampal formation, amygdala, frontoparietal and piriform cortices did not differ between the two strains. At 2 h after the third generalized grade 5 seizure, induced by kindling stimulations in the amygdala, increased expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor messenger RNA was detected in the dentate gyrus granule cell layer, amygdala, frontoparietal and piriform cortices of the fast kindlers. Similar seizure-evoked increases of brain-derived neurotrophic factor messenger RNA levels were also observed in the amygdala and piriform cortex of slow kindlers. However, in these animals, brain-derived neurotrophic factor messenger RNA expression was not significantly altered by the seizures in the dentate gyrus granule cell layer and frontoparietal cortex. Furthermore, the seizure-induced increase of nerve growth factor, TrkB and TrkC messenger RNAs and decrease of neurotrophin-3 messenger RNA levels in the dentate gyrus granule cell layer was only observed in fast, but not in slow, kindlers. The neurotrophins are believed to regulate synaptic plasticity and efficacy and to facilitate long-term potentiation and kindling epileptogenesis. The present data suggest that the slow and fast kindling rates in the two strains studied here might partly be due to differences in seizure-evoked neurotrophin and Trk synthesis.

  • Gelation behaviour during chainwise crosslinking polymerisation of methacrylate resins
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Polymer. - 0032-3861 .- 1873-2291. ; 40, s. 5699-5707
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The gelation process in chainwise crosslinking polymerisation of methacrylate resins with average functionalities of 2.1-50 (1.05-25 methacrylate groups/molecule) was investigated using dynamic mechanical analysis. For all systems a crossover in tan delta (tan delta independent of frequency) was observed at gelation. The gel time was found to decrease with increasing functionality of the system. Within the measured frequency ranges, power law behaviour for the dynamic modulus was observed at the gel point in all systems. A value of the power law exponent n of 0.4 +/- 0.2 to 0.6 +/- 0.1 (increasing with increasing functionality of the system) was determined for gelation during reactions at T greater than or equal to T-g infinity. This trend suggests that the differences in screening between the systems dominate over the difference in fractal dimension. For reaction temperatures below T-g infinity a value of n = 0.3 +/- 01 was obtained, which was attributed to the influence of micro-vitrification. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
