  • Automated Usage Characterization of Mining Vehicles For Life Time Prediction
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IFAC PAPERSONLINE. - : ELSEVIER. - 2405-8963. ; , s. 11950-11955
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The life of a vehicle is heavily influenced by how it is used, and usage information is critical to predict the future condition of the machine. In this work we present a method to categorize what task an earthmoving vehicle is performing, based on a data driven model and a single standalone accelerometer. By training a convolutional neural network using a couple of weeks of labeled data, we show that a three axis accelerometer is sufficient to correctly classify between 5 different classes with an accuracy over 96% for a balanced dataset with no manual feature generation. The results are also compared against some other machine learning techniques, showing that the convolutional neural network has the highest performance, although other techniques are not far behind. An important conclusion is that methods and ideas from the area of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) are applicable also for vehicles. Copyright (C) 2020 The Authors.

  • Fatigue Damage Monitoring for Mining Vehicles using Data Driven Models
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Prognostics and Health Management. - Rochester, NY, United States : Prognostics and Health Management Society. - 2153-2648. ; 11:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The life and condition of a mine truck frame are related to how the machine is used. Damage from stress cycles is accumulated over time, and measurements throughout the life of the machine are needed to monitor the condition. This results in high demands on the durability of sensors, especially in a harsh mining application. To make a monitoring system cheap and robust, sensors already available on the vehicles are preferred rather than additional strain gauges. The main question in this work is whether the existing on-board sensors can give the required information to estimate stress signals and calculate accumulated damage of the frame. Model complexity requirements and sensors selection are also considered. A final question is whether the accumulated damage can be used for prognostics and to increase reliability. The investigation is performed using a large data set from two vehicles operating in real mine applications. Coherence analysis, ARX-models, and rain flow counting are techniques used. The results show that a low number of available on-board sensors like load cells, damper cylinder positions, and angle transducers can give enough information to recreate some of the stress signals measured. The models are also used to show significant differences in usage by different operators, and its effect on the accumulated damage.

  • Using land-based stations for air–sea interaction studies
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Tellus. Series A, Dynamic meteorology and oceanography. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0280-6495 .- 1600-0870. ; 72:1, s. 1-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In situ measurements representing the marine atmosphere and air-sea interaction are taken at ships, buoys, stationary moorings and land-based towers, where each observation platform has structural restrictions. Air-sea fluxes are often small, and due to the limitations of the sensors, several corrections are applied. Land-based towers are convenient for long-term observations, but one critical aspect is the representativeness of marine conditions. Hence, a careful analysis of the sites and the data is necessary. Based on the concept of flux footprint, we suggest defining flux data from land-based marine micrometeorological sites in categories depending on the type of land influence:1. CAT1: Marine data representing open sea,2. CAT2: Disturbed wave field resulting in physical properties different from open sea conditions and heterogeneity of water properties in the footprint region, and3. CAT3: Mixed land-sea footprint, very heterogeneous conditions and possible active carbon production/consumption.Characterization of data would be beneficial for combined analyses using several sites in coastal and marginal seas and evaluation/comparison of properties and dynamics. Aerosol fluxes are a useful contribution to characterizing a marine micrometeorological field station; for most conditions, they change sign between land and sea sectors. Measured fluxes from the land-based marine station Ostergarnsholm are used as an example of a land-based marine site to evaluate the categories and to present an example of differences between open sea and coastal conditions. At the Ostergarnsholm site the surface drag is larger for CAT2 and CAT3 than for CAT1 when wind speed is below 10m/s. The heat and humidity fluxes show a distinctive distinguished seasonal cycle; latent heat flux is larger for CAT2 and CAT3 compared to CAT1. The flux of carbon dioxide is large from the coastal and land-sea sectors, showing a large seasonal cycle and significant variability (compared to the open sea sector). Aerosol fluxes are partly dominated by sea spray emissions comparable to those observed at other open sea conditions.

  • Highly Reduced Survival in Essential Thrombocythemia and Polycythemia Vera Patients with Vascular Complications during Follow-up
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Haematology. - : Munksgaard Forlag. - 0902-4441 .- 1600-0609. ; 104:3, s. 271-278
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To explore the relative importance of risk factors, treatments and blood counts for the occurrence of vascular complications and their impact on life expectancy in Essential Thrombocythemia (ET) and Polycythemia Vera (PV).METHODS: Nested case-control study within the Swedish MPN registry. From a cohort of 922 ET patients and 763 PV patients, 71 ET and 81 PV cases with vascular complications were compared to matched controls.RESULTS: Incidence of vascular complications were 2.0 and 3.4 events per 100 patient-years in ET and PV, respectively. At diagnosis, no significant risk factor differences were observed between cases and controls in neither of the diseases. At the time of vascular event, ET complication cases did not differ significantly from controls but in PV, cases had significantly higher WBCs and were to a lesser extent treated with antithrombotic and cytoreductive therapy. Life expectancy was significantly decreased in both ET and PV cases compared to controls.CONCLUSIONS: The risk of vascular complications is high in both ET and PV and these complications have a considerable impact on life expectancy. The protective effect of antithrombotic and cytoreductive therapy for vascular complications in PV underscores the importance of avoiding undertreatment.

  • Canvas som plattform för digitala krisövningar : Några första resultat från en demonstrationsövning
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Kursdesign i Canvas. - Karlstad : Karlstads universitet. - 9789178671540 - 9789178671588 ; , s. 11-42

  • The contribution of common genetic risk variants for ADHD to a general factor of childhood psychopathology
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Molecular Psychiatry. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 1359-4184 .- 1476-5578. ; 25:8, s. 1809-1821
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Common genetic risk variants have been implicated in the etiology of clinical attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnoses and symptoms in the general population. However, given the extensive comorbidity across ADHD and other psychiatric conditions, the extent to which genetic variants associated with ADHD also influence broader psychopathology dimensions remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations between ADHD polygenic risk scores (PRS) and a broad range of childhood psychiatric symptoms, and to quantify the extent to which such associations can be attributed to a general factor of childhood psychopathology. We derived ADHD PRS for 13,457 children aged 9 or 12 from the Child and Adolescent Twin Study in Sweden, using results from an independent meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies of ADHD diagnosis and symptoms. We estimated associations between ADHD PRS, a general psychopathology factor, and several dimensions of neurodevelopmental, externalizing, and internalizing symptoms, using structural equation modeling. Higher ADHD PRS were statistically significantly associated with elevated neurodevelopmental, externalizing, and depressive symptoms (R 2  = 0.26-1.69%), but not with anxiety. After accounting for a general psychopathology factor, on which all symptoms loaded positively (mean loading = 0.50, range = 0.09-0.91), an association with specific hyperactivity/impulsivity remained significant. ADHD PRS explained ~ 1% (p value < 0.0001) of the variance in the general psychopathology factor and ~ 0.50% (p value < 0.0001) in specific hyperactivity/impulsivity. Our results suggest that common genetic risk variants associated with ADHD, and captured by PRS, also influence a general genetic liability towards broad childhood psychopathology in the general population, in addition to a specific association with hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms.

  • Difficulties maintaining prolonged fixation and attention-deficit/hyperactivity symptoms share genetic influences in childhood
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Psychiatry Research. - : Elsevier. - 0165-1781 .- 1872-7123. ; 293
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigated the association between the ability to maintain prolonged (2-minute) fixation on a visual target and ADHD traits in a sample consisting of 120 monozygotic and 120 dizygotic twin pairs, aged 9 to 14 years. More intrusive saccades during the task was associated with higher level of parent-reported ADHD traits. Both intrusive saccades and ADHD symptoms had high heritability estimates, and there was a moderate genetic correlation between number of intrusive saccades and ADHD. This study suggests that inability to maintain ocular fixation for longer times is etiologically linked to ADHD traits in the general population.

  • Structure and Characterization of Phosphoglucomutase 5 from Atlantic and Baltic Herring : An Inactive Enzyme with Intact Substrate Binding
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Biomolecules. - : MDPI AG. - 2218-273X. ; 10:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Phosphoglucomutase 5 (PGM5) in humans is known as a structural muscle protein without enzymatic activity, but detailed understanding of its function is lacking. PGM5 belongs to the alpha-D-phosphohexomutase family and is closely related to the enzymatically active metabolic enzyme PGM1. In the Atlantic herring, Clupea harengus, PGM5 is one of the genes strongly associated with ecological adaptation to the brackish Baltic Sea. We here present the first crystal structures of PGM5, from the Atlantic and Baltic herring, diering by a single substitution Ala330Val. The structure of PGM5 is overall highly similar to structures of PGM1. The structure of the Baltic herring PGM5 in complex with the substrate glucose-1-phosphate shows conserved substrate binding and active site compared to human PGM1, but both PGM5 variants lack phosphoglucomutase activity under the tested conditions. Structure comparison and sequence analysis of PGM5 and PGM1 from fish and mammals suggest that the lacking enzymatic activity of PGM5 is related to dierences in active-site loops that are important for flipping of the reaction intermediate. The Ala330Val substitution does not alter structure or biophysical properties of PGM5 but, due to its surface-exposed location, could affect interactions with protein-binding partners.

  • Operationalising resilience for disaster medicine practitioners : capability development through training, simulation and reflection
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Cognition, Technology & Work. - : Springer. - 1435-5558 .- 1435-5566. ; 22:3, s. 667-683
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Resilience has in recent decades been introduced as a term describing a new perspective within the domains of disaster management and safety management. Several theoretical interpretations and definitions of the essence of resilience have been proposed, but less work has described how to operationalise resilience and implement the concept within organisations. This case study describes the implementation of a set of general resilience management guidelines for critical infrastructure within a Swedish Regional Medical Command and Control Team. The case study demonstrates how domain-independent guidelines can be contextualised and introduced at an operational level, through a comprehensive capability development programme. It also demonstrates how a set of conceptual and reflective tools consisting of educational, training and exercise sessions of increasing complexity and realism can be used to move from high-level guidelines to practice. The experience from the case study demonstrates the value of combining (1) developmental learning of practitioners’ cognitive skills through resilience-oriented reflection and interaction with dynamic complex open-ended problems; (2) contextualisation of generic guidelines as a basis for operational methodological support in the operational environment; and (3) the use of simulation-based training as part of a capability development programme with increasing complexity and realism across mixed educational, training and exercise sessions. As an actual example of a resilience implementation effort in a disaster medicine management organisation, the study contributes to the body of knowledge regarding how to implement the concept of resilience in operational practice.

  • Experimental and Computational Study of Molecular Water Interactions with Condensed Nopinone Surfaces Under Atmospherically Relevant Conditions
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physical Chemistry A. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1089-5639 .- 1520-5215. ; 124:18, s. 3652-3661
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Water and organics are omnipresent in the atmosphere, and their interactions influence the properties and lifetime of both aerosols and clouds. Nopinone is one of the major reaction products formed from beta-pinene oxidation, a compound emitted by coniferous trees, and it has been found in both gas and particle phases in the atmosphere. Here, we investigate the interactions between water molecules and nopinone surfaces by combining environmental molecular beam (EMB) experiments and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The EMB method enables detailed studies of the dynamics and kinetics of water interacting with solid nopinone at 170-240 K and graphite coated with a molecularly thin nopinone layer at 200-270 K. MD simulations that mimic the experimental conditions have been performed to add insights into the molecular-level processes. Water molecules impinging on nopinone surfaces are efficiently trapped (>= 97%), and only a minor fraction scatters inelastically while maintaining 35-65% of their incident kinetic energy (23.2 +/- 1.0 kJ mol(-1)). A large fraction (60-80%) of the trapped molecules desorbs rapidly, whereas a small fraction (20-40%) remains on the surface for more than 10 ms. The MD calculations confirm both rapid water desorption and the occurrence of strongly bound surface states. A comparison of the experimental and computational results suggests that the formation of surface-bound water clusters enhances water uptake on the investigated surfaces.
