  • Brains for Autonomous Robots : Hardware and Surgery Tools
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of PerAc '94. From Perception to Action. - Los Alamitos : IEEE. - 0818664827 - 9780818664823 ; , s. 436-439
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a hardware architecture and a software tool needed for future autonomous robots. Specific attention is given to the execution of artificial neural networks and to the need for a good inspection and visualization tool when developing this kind of systems. Achievable performance using state-of-the-art technology is estimated and module miniaturization issues are discussed. © 1994 IEEE.

  • A method of producing cellulosic pulp
  • 1991
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Mechanical and chemimechanical cellulose pulp, particularly paper pulp, is produced at a low energy input by disintegrating and beating wood material in one or more stages. Acccording to the invention, a substance capable of forming complexes with polyvalent metal ions, particularly calcium ions, so-called complexing agent, is added to the wood material prior to the beating process in order to replace said calcium or other polyvalent metal ions with sodium ions, therewith a further reduction in the energy input is obtained.

  • Phases in the ZrxTa1-x(O,N)y System, Formed by Ammonolyses of Zr-Ta Gels. Preparation of Baddeleyite Type Solid Solution Phase ZrxTa1-xO1+xN1-x, 0≤x≤1
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry. - 0959-9428 .- 1364-5501. ; 4, s. 1293-1301
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    •   Phase formation in the system ZrxTa1–x(O,N)y has been studied by ammonolysis of Zr-Ta gels, prepared by the sol–gel technique, at temperatures between 700 and 1000 °C. The starting gels and observed phases were characterised by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. Oxynitride phases of compositions ZrxTa1–xO1 +xN1–x, 0≤x≤1, with the baddeleyite-type structure, were prepared at 800 °C. The unit-cell volume increased linearly from 127.8 Å3 for TaON (x= 0) to 140.9 Å3 for ZrO2(x= 1). The structure was verified for the composition Zr0.4Ta0.6O1.6N0.4(x= 0.4) by a Rietveld refinement (RF= 3.5%) using Cu-Kα1, XRPD data. An orthorhombic oxynitride phase was observed in preparations at 700 °C for 0.26 ≤x≤ 0.90 in ZrxTa1–xO1+xN1–x. Unit-cell parameters and powder X-ray reflection intensities agree with an orthorhombic ZrO2 type structure. According to X-ray data, a cubic solid solution phase with a fluorite related subcell is present in materials prepared at 900 °C for 0.26≤x≤ 0.68. However, electron microdiffraction patterns suggest a metrically monoclinic unit cell with a = 6.1 Å, b= 14.1 Å, c= 7.1 Å and β= 125°. The Ta3N5, type of structure was found to incorporate up to ca. 18 atom% Zr at 900 and 1000 °C.

  • A modular, massively parallel computer architecture for trainable real-time control systems
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Control Engineering Practice. - Kidlington, Oxford : Pergamon Press. - 0967-0661 .- 1873-6939. ; 1:4, s. 655-661
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new system-architectural concept for trainable real-time control systems is based on resource adequacy both in processing and communication. Cyclically executing programs in distributed nodes communicate via a shared high-speed medium. Static scheduling of programs and communication implies that the maximum possible work-load can always be handled in a time-deterministic manner. The use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) algorithms and trainability implies a new system development strategy based on a Continuous Development paradigm. An implementation of the Architectural concept is presented. The communication speed is measured in Gbps and the access method is TDMA. An implementation of the system-development strategy is also presented. © 1993.

  • Characterisation of the anti-A antibody response following an ABO incompatible (A2 to O) kidney transplantation.
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Molecular immunology. - 0161-5890. ; 29:4, s. 547-60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anti-A,B antibodies produced in a blood group OLe(a-b-) recipient receiving a kidney graft from a blood group A2Le(a-b+) donor have been analysed for their ability to bind to different glycosphingolipid antigens. Solid-phase RIA using pure glycosphingolipid antigens and a chromatogram binding assay using total nonacid glycosphingolipid fractions from erythrocytes of different human blood group phenotypes together with pure glycolipid antigens were used as assay systems. Serum antibodies were shown to bind equally well to A (types 1, 2, 3 and 4) and B (types 1 and 2) antigenic structures but no binding to H antigens (types 1, 2 and 4) was detected. After adsorption of serum antibodies on A1 Le(a-b+) erythrocytes there was a residual anti-A antibody activity which could not be adsorbed by synthetic A-trisaccharides coupled to crystalline silica (Synsorb-A). These residual antibodies, which are not present in a pretransplant serum sample, had a specificity for the A antigen with type 1 core saccharide chain and the binding epitope obviously included both the N-acetylgalactosamine and the N-acetylglucosamine. The fucose residue was apparently not obligate for binding. The conformation of the sugar units involved in the binding epitope was determined.

  • A DUMMY FOR REAR-END COLLISIONS: DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF A NEW DUMMY NECK
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 1992 INTERNATIONAL IRCOBI CONFERENCE ON THE BIOMECHANICS OF IMPACTS. ; , s. 299-310
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study develops and validates a new dummy neck for rear-end collision testing. The effectiveness of passenger car head rests in rear-end collisions remaines poor and whiplash injuries, often occurring at low impact speeds, are a great problem. Until now, there has been no acceptable dummy for rear-end impact testing. The new neck consists of seven cervical and two thoracic vertebrae connected with pin joints. It is designed solely for rear-end collision testing at low impact speeds (lower than 20 km/h). It was validated using a series of volunteer tests. It showed good accordance. A Hybrid III neck was tested under the same conditions. This neck proved to be stiff. It also appeared to have too high resistance to horizontal translational motion between head and torso

  • The Influence of Seat-Back and Head-Restraint Properties on the Head-Neck Motion During Rear-Impact
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Proc. 1993 Int IRCOBI Conf., Eindhoven, Netherlands. ; , s. 395-406
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One type of production-car front-seat with ahead-restraint was tested in simulated low-velocityrear-impacts using a Hybrid III-dummy fitted with amodified neck (RID-neck). The seat was modified invarious ways to test the influence of different seatproperties on the head-neck motion during theimpact. The results show that it is possible to influencethe head-neck kinematics to a great extent bymodifying the properties of the seat-back and thehead-restraint. It was possible to virtually eliminatethe neck extension motion during the rear-impactand this will hopefully result in a significantdecrease of the neck injury risk in real world rearimpacts.
