  • Study on the Role of Men in Gender Equality
  • 2013. - 1
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Gender relations have increasingly changed throughout the past decades, and European gender politics have productively accompanied these improvements. Still Europe is far from being a gender-equal society. For a long period gender equality policies have been contextualised mainly as a ’women’s issue’ – as women have been the driving force behind gender equality strategies and have been seen as the only ones who benefit from a more equal society. Men as the ‘other gender’ have been taken less into account in the context of gender equality. In the last decade, however, men and masculinities have increasingly become subjects of studies and gender policies in the EU. Under EU presidency, conferences on men, masculinities and equality took place in Sweden (2001) and Finland (2006). The Roadmap for equality between women and men 2006-20101 specifically encouraged men to take up care responsibilities and to share leave entitlements with women. A horizontal priority on gender roles including the need for involvement of men in gender equality policies and addressing inequalities affecting men, such as early school leaving, literacy and occupational health, is present in the current European Commission's Strategy for Equality between Women and Men (2010-2015)2. Additionally, strategies like gender mainstreaming seem to have created an initial awareness of the issue of men in gender equality and the establishment of some pathways towards institutional practice. Therefore, contemporary gender equality strategies as well as scientific studies should involve both men and women and take into account analysis of the role of both genders in romoting gender equality, dismantling structural inequalitiesand changing gender roles.

  • European Perspectives on Men and Masculinities : National and Transnational Approaches
  • 2009. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • What is happening to men, masculinities and gender relations in Europe? How are changes around gender affecting men? This book, the result of over five years' collaboration by the leading European researchers on men, is the first to adopt a comparative perspective on men and masculinities in Europe. It critically reviews the state of knowledge on men and masculinities, focusing on the different situations in fourteen countries across Eastern, Central and Western Europe. In particular,  it focuses on the implications of rapid and substantial social change, the EU and Europeanisation, globalization, and new post-socialist configurations of Europe for the construction of men, masculinities and men's practices. Special emphasis is also placed on men's changing relations to home and work, on  social exclusion,  violences,  health,  the intersection of national and transnational forces, legal, policy, and  on political developments around men and masculinities.

  • Gender and Management : New Research Directions
  • 2008. - 1
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Management. - Oxford : WileyBlackwell. - 1045-3172 .- 1467-8551.
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This article selectively reviews gender and management research. A flavour of what it can be like to research in this area is offered alongside a more substantive account. The article maps the many strands of work potentially relevant to exploring gender and management. It covers aspects of the field such as its diversity, emerging development, potential marginality and increasing clarity of definition, and considers implications for researchers. The appropriate integration of gender awareness into mainstream theorizing, alongside its separate development, is advocated. Major themes and issues in gender and management research are summarized and briefly addressed. Dilemmas about seeking to promote change but needing to speak within current conventions of management and academia are noted
